Is it possible to jailbreak . What is Jailbreak (jailbreak, jail) and what is it for? What is Cydia

iOS jailbreak is unauthorized access to the file system of an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or Apple TV, possible thanks to exploits that take advantage of Apple security vulnerabilities. Access to system files and folders allows the user to manage their contents and install applications from third-party sources, ignoring the official source of iOS content from the App Store. Users of a jailbroken iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad can still access the App Store, iTunes, and basic device capabilities, such as making a phone call.

The main function of jailbreak is to modify (simplify or expand) iOS settings and personalize the device interface. In order to download a jailbreak to an i-device, you need to install a utility compatible with the iOS version.

Origin of the term

Literally, “jailbreak” means “leaving” a device outside its “cage.” Initially, the metaphor of a cell, or jail, refers to the UNIX operating system, in particular to FreeBSD jail - autonomous virtual “cells” within a single FreeBSD operating system.

Many manufacturers of smartphones, tablets, and game consoles use technical means of copyright protection (DRM - Digital rights management) on their devices. DRM control systems limit the user's ability to control software, primarily for security purposes. Jailbreaking is the “hacking” of devices to avoid DRM restrictions and modify the operating system of your device.

For the first time, iPhone hackers used the term “jailbreak” in relation to iTunes and the ability to avoid its control. Since then, the meaning of the concept has expanded and now applies to the process of hacking Android platforms, also known as rooting.

JailbreakiOS: the ability to install applications and tweaks from third-party sources on iOS devices.
Rooting: a process similar to jailbreaking. In most cases, the terms “rooting” and “jailbreaking” are used interchangeably.
How to use jailbreak: Jailbreak your device and install tweaks and apps from Cydia to enhance iOS capabilities.
Jailbreak foriPhone: “hacking” the firmware of an Apple mobile device.
Cydia: a popular unofficial app store for jailbroken iOS devices.

Why do you need jailbreak?

The main principle of Apple is centralization. The iOS file system is closed to the user, and app developers must adhere to Apple's strict guidelines to get into the App Store. To a certain extent, these restrictions exist to enhance security and maintain the overall quality of applications. On the other hand, they create a desire to try out the hidden capabilities of your device’s operating system or to customize it to suit your own needs.

What does jailbreak do?

Ability to install Cydia

The founder of jailbreak is considered to be American developer Jay Freeman, also known as saurik, the father of the most popular alternative App Store content source Cydia. With Cydia, you can install software on your iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad that is not in the App Store, download a paid app for free, or download an app that is not approved or removed from the App Store.

The Cydia icon appears on the device screen immediately after jailbreaking. Cydia is so common in the jailbreaking community that most of the utilities you use to jailbreak it will install it automatically. There are many possibilities that jailbreak tweaks open up: from changing the design (status bar, font, theme, icons) to installing additional options and managing built-in functionality (disabling background processes, cleaning RAM, reading, changing system files and folders, etc.). d.).

Ability to edit system files

You cannot edit system files and folders: move, copy, rename, delete or create new ones. iTunes is the only manager for managing your Apple device. The App Store is the only source of applications. A modified or “hacked” system using jailbreak is available for editing. From Cydia you can download and install file managers directly on your device or computer. Here are just a few of the ways you can manage the contents of the iOS file system:
  • Copy, move, rename files.
  • Change directories for storing applications.
  • Allow applications to access the file system.
  • Change file attributes and user rights.
  • View and edit text documents.

Simplify the operation of the device

Apple devices aren't always easy to use. For example, without the appropriate application, you cannot open zipped files or edit text documents in txt, doc, docx, rtf, pdf formats. The iFile file manager on a “hacked” device allows you to view and sometimes edit files of various formats: txt, doc, docx, rtf, xml, xls, ppt, html, audio and video formats, gif, jpeg, jpg, png, etc.

Many Chinese iOS owners jailbreak their mobile devices to install simpler Chinese character input methods than Apple's.

Ability to change interface settings

An equally compelling argument in favor of modifying iOS is interface customization. The user is limited in choosing the graphic design of his device. Have you ever seen five icons in your dock instead of the traditional four? Or classic console games running on the iPad? You will never find such tweaks in the App Store - these settings are only available to a jailbroken device.

For example, you can see how to transform your iPhone using these setups:

Avoid restrictions App Store

Jailbreak decentralizes the operation of the device, allowing you to ignore restrictions imposed by Apple and the App Store. Apple carefully reviews apps for compliance with the iOS Developer Program License before accepting them and adding them to the AppStore. Often, the reasons for banning applications are not only security threats, but also unexplained reasons, which is why the set of applications in the App Store is extremely refined. To install taboo (for example, religious or erotic) applications for free, paid applications, or removed from the App Store, users jailbreak. Many interesting and convenient jailbreak tweaks take the user’s interaction with the device to a new level.

You click on the icon of an application installed from the App Store, the application starts, you perform the operations available to this software, press the “Home” button, and the application closes. The application is a self-governing universe hidden behind an icon. Everything that is outside of this diagram - any other changes to the settings is prohibitedSaurik

All applications from the App Store are installed in one system directory, to which the user does not have access. For the application, this directory is like a sandbox, beyond which it cannot go.

Types of jailbreak

Jailbreak is divided into three types. Attached, unattached and semi-attached.

Tethered jailbreak

A tethered jailbreak becomes invalid when the device is rebooted. Without a second jailbreak, the device most likely will not work, will freeze at the stage of loading “native” characteristics, or will not work correctly. To restart jailbreak, you will need to connect your device to your computer and re-run the jailbreak utility.

Untethered jailbreak

An untethered jailbreak remains after the device is turned off. The device will load the modified operating system without re-hacking and connecting to the computer. Cons: Most Apple models require a new exploit to access new firmware system files, requiring time and experience from developers.

Semi-tethered jailbreak

With a semi-tethered jailbreak, the device will turn on, but with the original settings. The user will be able to use the basic functions of the device - make calls or write messages, but for any other actions that require running the modified code, the device must be “hacked” again.

How to jailbreak?

Jailbreaking is possible thanks to exploits that take advantage of Apple security vulnerabilities.

Firstly, the choice of jailbreak tool depends on the iOS version and device model.

The list of jailbreak tools is extensive: ZiPhone, QuickPwn, redsn0w, purplera1n, SpiritJB, Limera1n, Blackra1n, PwanageTool, Redsn0w, Sn0wbreeze Greenpois0n and JailbreakMe. To jailbreak iOS 7.0, use the evasi0n7 utility.

Exploits from Chinese hackers Pangu Team and TaiG are designed to jailbreak iOS 7.1; jailbreak iOS 8.0–iOS 8.4 and . For . However, Pangu already has a working version of the iOS 9.2 jailbreak.

Secondly, the jailbreak scheme will change for Windows and Mac OS X.

How to jailbreakiPhone, iPadoriPod touch:

  1. Download the latest version of the appropriate jailbreak utility from the official website to your computer.
  2. Extract the ZIP file.
  3. Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable.
  4. Disable the password in settings.
  5. Turn off Find My iPhone: Settings > iCloud > Find iPhone.
  6. Put your device into airplane mode.
  7. Run the application as administrator by right-clicking on the file.
  8. Device discovery will begin.
  9. Check that the firmware version specified by the utility is correct.
  10. Click Start to continue.
  11. After jailbreaking, the device will automatically reboot and the Cydia icon will appear on the screen.

Jailbreak iOS 8

Hackers from Pangu unexpectedly released a publicly available tool for jailbreaking iOS 9 - iOS 9.0.2, which, similar to previous versions of utilities for "hacking" iOS, is easy to use. In the case of the "nine", however, there are several small differences, so we decided to talk in as much detail as possible about the process of jailbreaking iPhone, iPad and iPod touch running iOS 9.

Before you start working with the Pangu9 program, you must fulfill several mandatory requirements, without which jailbreak either cannot be carried out or may put your personal data at risk of being deleted. Here is a step-by-step list of preparations, which we do not advise anyone to ignore:

  • Back up your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. We have already tested the operation of Pangu9 on several devices, however, no one is immune from errors occurring during jailbreaking
  • Update iTunes to the final version by going to the tab Reference -> Updates
  • . Turn off Find My iPhone by going to the menu Settings -> iCloud -> Find iPhone and turning the corresponding toggle switch into inactive mode.

  • A mandatory requirement, without which jailbreaking will not work.. Turn off your device's password protection by going to the menu Settings -> Password(or Touch ID and passcode).

After all the above preparations have been made, you can start working with the Pangu9 utility.

Step 1. Download the iOS 9 jailbreak utility Pangu9 from the official website of Chinese developers or from our mirror

Step 2: Activate Airplane Mode on your mobile device

Step 3: Connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer and run Pangu9 as an administrator

Step 4. Wait until Pangu9 detects your device and shows Jailbreak Ready

Step 5: Click the button Start

Step 6. On the next window, click on the button Already backup, thereby confirming that all preparations for jailbreak have been completed by you

Step 7. When the installation progress reaches 65%, your device will reboot. After it turns on, you need to unlock it and re-enable Airplane mode

Step 8. At 75%, the utility will prompt you to unlock your device again and launch the Pangu application, which will appear on the home screen

Step 9. In the Pangu application window, click the button Accept and open the program to access the Photos application by clicking " Allow»

Step 10. After this, the device will reboot again and after turning it on, a full untethered jailbreak will be installed on it

Our reader Sanzhar Surshanov sent this material, which seems very relevant to us in light of the liberation of iOS from the shackles of Apple :)

There is a misconception that jailbreak is only needed to download paid games for free in the App Store. Yes, you can. But there are other ways to use jail.

Let's first understand what jailbreak is. According to Wikipedia, jailbreak is “an operation not officially supported by Apple that allows the software to have full access to the device’s file system. This allows you to expand the capabilities of the device, for example, to make it possible to support themes, tweaks, and install applications from sources other than the App Store.”

When I first got an iOS device (iPad mini), I had no intention of installing a jailbreak and didn’t really know what it was. After a short introduction to the iPad, I immediately wanted to change the default browser, Safari, to my favorite Google Chrome. But as it turned out, the guys from Cupertino do not allow changing the standard browser on their devices. After consulting with Google, it turned out that this can only be done using jailbreak. And since then I slowly began to collect information about jail.

After the hacker group Evad3rs released the Evasi0n iOS 6/6.1 application, I installed a jailbreak.

So, let's move on to the tweaks themselves.

5. SwipeBack - a very simple and useful tweak that allows you to return to the previous application using the “swipe right” gesture.

6. Zeppelin - the most useless tweak, but pretty cool. Allows you to change the cellular operator logo to other more interesting ones. Separately, in Cydia you can find the logos of your favorite club, and indeed many other logos.

7. BatteryDoctorPro. The most useful tweak I have installed. BarreryDoctorPro has many features, but I will focus on just one.
BatteryDoctor like NCSettings adds toggles to your Notification Center and from there you can change various settings. But for me personally, only one button is interesting there - TaskClear. Since almost everyone has a lot of applications on their Apple devices, it often happens that more than 10 applications or even more are open in the multitasking panel at a time. To avoid wasting battery and memory, you need to close them (open applications) manually in every possible way.

So TaskClear helps you “clean out” all applications in the multitasking panel with one click! Very easy and super convenient. I believe that this feature deserves to be in iOS itself and will make life easier for millions of iPhone/iPad/iPod touch users.

And finally, I have been jailbreaking for quite a long time and have not had any problems/glitches with my iPad. Tweaks are divided into free/paid (yes, yes, and after the jailbreak you can continue to pay money), for iPhone/iPad (there are many more interesting and useful tweaks for iPhone).

UPDATE: And a few more tweaks - 20!

This article is a detailed instruction on jailbreak for iOS. Along with frequently asked questions about everything jailbreak-related, you'll find links to detailed guides for all firmware versions on how to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV.

If you already know a lot about jailbreaking and are only looking for how-to guides, just skip to the section on how to jailbreak: just find the software version and the type of device you have to get personalized instructions. If you are new to this. and want to know more, we invite you to spend a few minutes and familiarize yourself with all the nuances in more detail.

What's the freshest thing right now?

The newest jailbreak utility supports firmware up to iOS 12.1.2. Although there are “crooked” versions for older firmware, they have nothing to do with full-fledged tools.

For now latest version, which can be jailbroken - iOS 12.1.2.

The latest iOS jailbreak utilities are un0ver and Chimera. Both support iOS 12.0-12.1.2. But we recommend unc0ver, because... it uses Saurik's Cydia rather than Sileo to manage packages and fine-tune the system. But this may change in the future.

For device owners A12 or A12X, namely: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, 11″ iPad Pro (2018) or 12.9″ iPad Pro (2018) 3rd generation, must use Chimera, since unc0ver doesn't support these new devices yet.

The latest version of tvOS that can be jailbroken is tvOS 12.1.1.

What is jailbreak?

Jailbreaking is a process by which Apple's operating systems are modified to remove restrictions and give the user more control over the device. These changes allow programs to run without a digital signature, as well as reading and writing to the root file system, which is not allowed on Apple devices by default. Enhanced privileges allow you to configure and seamlessly install applications that are not available to users with standard devices. Jailbreaking is most popular with Apple's iOS mobile operating system, although it is also used on tvOS and watchOS.

Typically, a jailbreak adds an unofficial app installer to the device that allows you to download third-party apps, tweaks, and extensions that are not available in the App Store. These apps open up endless possibilities for doing things on your iOS device that a non-jailbroken iOS device would never be able to do. The most famous and large of these application installers is Cydia.

Cydia comes with a variety of subtle, custom settings that let you customize the look, behavior, and capabilities of your device, bypass Apple and carrier restrictions, connect to other devices remotely, and generally bring your iOS device to life.

Jailbreak will allow you to use paid applications from the App Store for free!

Main advantages of jailbreak

The main reason why users jailbreak is to install third-party applications and tweaks, which Apple does not allow into the App Store for policy reasons. There are hundreds of apps that don't meet Apple's requirements or do things Apple prohibits on iOS devices. There are no tweaks in the App Store at all, since they are not applications. These are extensions, additions or modifications to already installed applications, as well as to the operating system itself.

For example, Apple doesn't allow you to customize the device's overall user interface. Thanks to the jailbreak community, there are many settings that completely change the appearance of your iPhone, be it changing icons, hiding icon names, adding more than four applications to the dock, adding a dark mode and many more features.

If you value functionality over aesthetics, then jail may be right for you. Also popular are feature tweaks that make subtle improvements to the way your iOS device works: making the text cursor more comfortable, working with complex gestures and button combinations, installing apps from unknown sources, connecting wirelessly to other devices via SSH, displaying information about Wi-Fi channel and signal strength. The list can go on for a very long time. With Cydia you can customize your device and make it unique.

Is Jailbreak Legal?

So, let's clear up a common misconception: Jailbreaking in the US and abroad is completely legal at the moment. Until 2010, Jail was considered illegal by the US government due to copyright violations. However, now the jailbreak process is not considered so widely, and the issue of copyright is omitted.

In other countries, jailbreaking does not fall into the category of either legal or illegal, provided that copyright is not violated. In short, there's really nothing to worry about here. Even if you don't live in the US, there's virtually no chance that Apple will come after you for hacking your device. There have never been any precedents in any country.

Please note: jailbreaking is not illegal.

However, any offenses you commit on this device remain illegal. If you use jailbreak to download illegal torrent movies, download paid apps for free, or commit other cyber crimes and copyright violations, you are breaking the law. Therefore, use jailbreak only to customize the device as much as possible for yourself.

Does Jailbreak void your device warranty?

Yes and no. Yes because if you go to an Apple store with a broken device to get support, repair or service, you will be turned away (assuming they notice). Apple does not allow jailbreaking in its warranty agreement. It's illegal for Apple to stop you from doing what you want with your device, but it's legal to refuse to provide any support if you've done something they don't like.

“Apple strongly recommends that you do not install or use any software to modify the iOS operating system without permission. Additionally, it is important to note that unauthorized modification of the iOS operating system is a violation of the terms of the license agreement. Therefore, Apple has the right to refuse service to all users of a jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.”

However, there is an answer No. If you need to take your device to an Apple store, simply restore it to factory settings in advance. This will completely eliminate all traces of hacking, and the device will be accepted by Apple under warranty. It is impossible to know that the device has been hacked.

Can a device turn into a brick?

You may have heard some horror stories about people who tried to jailbreak their iPhone or iPad and ended up turning it into a useless brick. While this could have happened in the very early days of the iPhone, it is now so complex that it is simply impossible for any average user.

The worst thing that can happen when you first try to hack a device is that it becomes unresponsive, which is usually fixed by a hard reset. Even complete file system corruption can be repaired using the iTunes repair feature. The only danger after jailbreaking is installing incompatible settings or downloading something unsafe. Most versions of jailbreak include a safe mode that disables all your settings in case of incompatibility, so that you can easily remove them and continue using the device.

Finally, remember that you can always restore your iOS device to factory firmware, this will fix any non-hardware related issue. But keep in mind that this will result in the jailbreak being lost until it is released for an updated version of iOS.

Is jailbreaking the same as unlocking?

No, jail and unlock are two different things. Jailbreaking removes restrictions in Apple software, and unlocking removes restrictions imposed by your mobile operator. As noted earlier, jailbreaking an iPhone allows you to install third-party applications and modifications, while unlocking allows you to use your iPhone with a different cellular provider.

Will it be possible to use iTunes and the App Store after jailbreak?

Yes, you can use iTunes and App Store after your device is jailbroken. In principle, nothing will change. The only minor inconvenience is that some App Store apps, such as banking apps, contain a jailbreak detection feature that prevents them from launching. This inconvenience can be circumvented using a tweak. The most noticeable change to your iOS device will be that after jailbreaking, you will have a new app installed called Cydia.

What is Cydia?

In short, Cydia is the App Store for jailbreak applications. Just like the App Store, you can browse Cydia for new additions to your device, read about them, purchase or download them, and then install and use them. Most applications and modifications in Cydia are free, but it's not uncommon for really worthwhile developments to be offered for a few dollars.

Does jailbreak prevent you from updating your iOS version?

If your iOS device is jailbroken and you decide to update it to the latest version of iOS, you will lose your jailbreak. Since there is usually no jailbreak for the latest version of iOS, you will have to wait for a new tool to jailbreak newer firmware. Here the choice is yours - wait for a new jail or immediately switch to a new version of iOS, but without Cydia and the features that come with it. True jailbreakers update the operating system of their iOS device only when a stable jailbreak tool is released for it.

For every iOS update, Apple developers install jailbreak patches. Therefore, hackers need to start all over again and again look for methods to hack the latest iOS.

What types of jailbreak are there?

There are 4 types of jailbreak: tethered, semi-tethered, semi-untethered and untethered. The first two are not very common and will not be useful to the average user.

Almost all recent jailbreaks have been semi-untethered. This means that after each reboot of the device, you need to re-launch the jailbreak application to reactivate the jailbreak and use the capabilities of Cydia. Until you do this, your device will work as usual, as if there was no jail before.

Untethered versions of jailbreak are now being released less and less due to difficulties in their implementation. They do not have the same restrictions that the semi-untethered have. An untethered jailbreak does not disappear after rebooting the device.

Is it possible to download applications from the App Store for free using jailbreak?

Yes, but we do not recommend installing pirated apps on your device. It's illegal and you're stealing money from hardworking developers. We do not condone piracy, do not help solve problems or provide support in matters related to piracy.

Is it easy to jailbreak?

Nowadays jailbreaking is very easy. Typically, you need to download a special jailbreak app and install it on your device using tools like Xcode or Cydia Impactor. Next, you need to launch one of these applications and simply press the “Jailbreak” button. For earlier versions, the hacking program had to be run on the computer and the device connected using a USB cable. But both methods are simple and do not require special knowledge and skills, only precise execution of steps according to step-by-step instructions.

Which jailbreak tool is considered the best?

There isn't really a "best" jailbreak, as tools typically only work with a specific set of firmwares until Apple releases patches. For this reason, they are constantly updated and new ones are created. For example, you would use one tool for iOS 7.1.2 and another for iOS 11.3. The "best" tool, therefore, will be the one that hacks the firmware your devices are currently running. Sometimes there are multiple tools for the same firmware, or (for older firmwares) Mac and Windows versions of the same jailbreak.

Is jailbreak paid?

No. Never pay anyone to jailbreak.

Hackers who develop jailbreaks do it for free. They sometimes accept voluntary donations, so if you appreciate the work that has been done to bring you a fresh jailbreak, feel free to give the developers something. However, there is never a charge to access this tool. If you find a website that pretends to be a new jailbreak and asks you to create an account or pay for access, it is a scam. Always download jailbreak tools directly from the real developer's website. A list of genuine sites can always be found on our portal. Read below.

How to install jailbreak on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV

Select your device's iOS version to find the jailbreak tool and how to use it.

iOS 12.1.3+

You're out of luck so far. There are currently no public exploits for iOS 12.1.3 and above, and all vulnerable firmwares are not digitally signed, meaning you can't downgrade them to that level. Block updates, stay on the lowest firmware level and wait for the next jailbreak.

iOS 12.0-12.1.2

  • unc0ver : all devices, except A12 and A12X. Recommended for iPhone X and younger.
  • Chimera: all devices, including A12 and A12X. Recommended for iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, 11″ iPad Pro (2018), and 12.9″ iPad Pro 3rd generation (2018).

  • doubleh3lix : all 64-bit devices, except iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
  • Meridian: all 64-bit devices, including iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
  • h3lix: all 32-bit devices.

TVOS

  • Apple TV 3: at the moment there is no jailbreak for any firmware, however

It is very sad to realize that the once popular jailbreak trend has practically ceased to exist.

Previously, all advanced iPhone and iPad users were waiting for the release of a new version of hacking to expand the capabilities of their devices. Now many people have almost forgotten that jailbreak still exists.

I managed to remember the iOS hack in 2018. I share my opinion and theses on this matter.

1. Apple has closed almost all the holes

During iOS 7-9, jailbreaks were released quickly and regularly. Hackers managed to release utilities for current versions of iOS; in case of failure, they could restore the firmware and try again.

Every minor iOS update was hacked so that users did not have to choose between system features and jailbreak.

Along with the waning interest in jailbreaking on the part of developers, Apple has done a lot of work. Cupertino has eliminated most of the known vulnerabilities and regularly pays hackers for new holes found.

iOS 11 jailbreak was released only 4 months after the official release of the system. Hackers haven't spent so much time hacking in a very long time.

2. Developers have lost interest in jailbreaking

Creator of Cydia and one of the “fathers” of jailbreak Jay Freeman (Saurik) has repeatedly stated that he sees no further point in developing the community.

Despite this, he regularly updated Cydia every year after the release of the hacking utility, tidied up the repositories and adapted some tweaks.

This year, Cydia started working only a month after the jailbreak was released; before that, tweaks had to be installed manually.

Several major repositories are still not optimized for iOS, which makes it impossible to post tweaks and download extensions there.

3. Tweaks for iOS 11 need to be rewritten

Tweak creators are faced with a well-redesigned iOS structure. Almost all add-ons need improvement and adaptation, and some, in principle, will not work on iOS 11.

Even the simplest add-ons that worked without modification from iOS 7 to iOS 10 in the eleventh version of the Apple mobile system are not supported or work with errors.

One of the main tweaks has not yet been adapted - Activator. This is not only a serious stand-alone extension, the tweak is needed to install and run many other add-ons.

4. Tweaks for iOS 11 cannot be purchased

For unknown reasons, Saurik does not update the Cydia security system, which is needed to purchase paid tweaks. Now you can only download a previously purchased tweak if it has been adapted for iOS 11.

Whether it will be possible to buy paid extensions for iOS 11 in the future remains a mystery.

In such conditions, developers are not interested in creating new extensions and adapting old ones.

5. Most games and applications have switched to freemium and subscription

One of the areas of jailbreaking has always been piracy. Users hacked to install paid games for free.

Now many projects have switched to subscriptions or in-game purchases. In this case, jailbreaking is no help for pirates. All transactions take place on the developers’ servers and it will not be possible to deceive the system on the device.

Even the Chinese teams of hackers who raced to create jailbreak utilities several years ago have lost interest in it. Then their development was paid for by the creators of Chinese stores of hacked applications. Now all this is not very popular.

6. There is practically nothing to change or add to iOS in its current form.

Apple has long adopted most of the useful and necessary features from the world of jailbreaking. Even the new iPhone X control gestures are also partially taken from tweaks.

Already in iOS 10, many noticed that Apple no longer needed the jailbreak world.

The remaining useful additions are either too minor to entice users to jailbreak or don't work in iOS 11.

7. Jailbreak iOS 11 semi-tethered

This means that after rebooting the iPhone, you will need to repeat the jailbreak procedure. On the one hand, it’s quite simple: you just need to launch the application and press a button, but on the other hand, the jailbreak program needs to be signed via a computer.

For those who do not pay $99 per year as an iOS developer, you will have to re-subscribe (reinstall) the Electra utility every week. After 7 days, the hacking application will no longer run on the iPhone.

Before this, jailbreak was almost always released as a full-fledged utility that hacked the system and allowed you to reboot the iPhone without losing the jailbreak.

7. iOS 11 jailbreak is very buggy

In a couple of weeks of not very active testing, a jailbroken iPhone in my hands froze 4 times. I don't remember anything like this since Cydia on the first generation iPhone.

If the jailbreak was previously buggy, it happened at most once every few months or once every six months. Hacking has always been much more stable in the past.

Which tweaks work?

By luck, I had an iPhone 7 Plus with a jailbreak-compatible version of iOS.

I've scoured the entire catalog of tweaks and found my old favorite extensions, but most of them still don't work with iOS 11.

You can only install tweaks from the “tweak whistles” category and minor cosmetic additions. No multi-window modes on iPhone and iPad, no conceptual interface changes, no advanced automation tools, no anti-theft or security applications (almost all of them are tied to Activator).

There are a dozen tweaks for the iPhone X, for example, to add charge percentage, more convenient removal of applications from the multitasking panel, or a dark interface theme.

The most interesting thing we found was a tweak for, but you need to install it manually.

Cydia is unusually boring and empty.
