How to remove avast remnants from the system. How to completely remove Avast antivirus! from computer

It happens that the user installed the Avast antivirus, and then he did not like it, or the program’s license expired and there was a need to pay for this software product, so the user decided to remove Avast from the computer completely. You cannot delete it like a regular program. As a rule, after removing Avasta using standard operating system tools and rebooting the computer, entries remain in the registry that do not allow installing another antivirus on the system. Therefore, very often you can hear from users: “I can’t remove this software.” A slightly different approach is needed here to successfully solve the problem. So, how to uninstall Avast correctly?

As you probably already understood, it is important to remove Avast antivirus from your computer completely, without any fragments that will interfere with the operation of your system.

There are two options for resolving this issue:

  • uninstall the program using standard Microsoft Windows tools;
  • remove Avast antivirus using a specialized utility.

Uninstalling antivirus using standard Microsoft Windows tools

After completing the steps, Avast Anti-Virus is completely uninstalled from the computer. In Windows 7, the removal procedure takes about a minute.

After removing the antivirus from your system, Windows 7 will ask for permission to reboot immediately. To remove the Avast program completely, the following message in English will appear in the program window that appears: “The product was successfully uninstalled. Some files may stay in their current locations until the next reboot, though." You need to immediately allow Windows 7 to reboot by clicking the “Restart” button. Then complete the antivirus removal process by clicking the “Finish” button.

Now you know how to uninstall Avast using the Windows 7 operating system.

Having successfully uninstalled Avast from your operating system, do not forget to install a new antivirus to protect your computer. If any errors or fragments (shards) of the Avast program are identified, then proceed to step 2 (uninstallation using a special utility)

Removing an antivirus using a special utility avastclear

To completely remove Avast software from your system, you must do the following:

  • Download and save the utility from the link: avastclear;
  • Be sure to boot into safe mode;
  • Launch the downloaded avastclear;
  • Specify the path to the folder with Avast! if you did not install it by default;
  • Click on the inscription: “Delete”;
  • After removing the antivirus, reboot the system.

We hope that we were able to help everyone who, before reading the article, said: “I can’t completely remove Avast antivirus from my computer.”

We remind you once again that after removing the antivirus, your system will be at risk, so try to immediately install another antivirus on your system.

Versions of Windows older than 7 already have built-in protection against viruses and malware. However, antivirus laboratories recommend installing antiviruses from third-party manufacturers, which will allow you to more reliably protect your computer.

There are situations when it is impossible to remove Avast antivirus using the standard method. This can happen for various reasons, such as if the uninstaller file is corrupted or deleted. But before turning to professionals with the request: “Help, I can’t uninstall Avast!”, you can try to fix the situation yourself. Let's figure out how to do this.

If the antivirus is not removed using the standard method, you can use a specialized utility to uninstall Avast or use one of the programs to forcefully remove applications.

Method 1: Uninstall using Avast Uninstall Utility

First of all, you should try using the Avast Uninstall Utility program, which is an Avast developer utility.

Method 2: Forced removal of Avast

If the solution above for some reason did not help or cannot be completed, you should use one of the specialized applications for forcibly removing programs. One of the best among them is the Uninstall Tool.

Quite recently I wrote a note about installation, but after testing I had problems with uninstallation and I decided to briefly describe how to remove Avast antivirus from a computer completely and without tails in system.

Due to the fact that antiviruses are closely integrated into the system (and that’s normal, that’s how they work) Quite often a situation occurs when a standard uninstaller cannot cope with its task or removes anti-virus software not quite correctly or completely. Everything would be fine, but as a rule they are like this tails on the system may conflict with installed applications or make it impossible to install other anti-virus protection.

I can't say what this is connected with (and no one knows for sure) why can’t I remove the Avast Free Antivirus antivirus - but this situation just happened to me. When I tried to uninstall it through the control panel, the system said that Avast was in the process of installation and did not allow me to do anything... I tried to reboot the system, roll back - I could not remove it, the standard uninstaller simply thought that the installation process was not yet completed.

To remove any Avast antivirus you have several correct and reliable methods:

  1. Uninstallation via the standard uninstaller application via the control panel;
  2. Using the proprietary Avastclear utility

If possible, use the standard install/uninstall program; if nothing works, use the utility

We remove Avast Free Antivirus using standard system tools

What is the process like to remove Avast antivirus from your computer? — Go to “Control Panel”, “Programs and Features”, find Avast Free Antivirus in the list (this could be Avast Internet Security or any other Avast antivirus defender) and click the “Delete” button.

If there are no errors in the system and the installation was carried out correctly, the Avast Free Antivirus removal utility will start... here you can reinstall the antivirus by clicking the “Restore” button, change the composition of the components (this is the window with settings before installation) and, accordingly, the desired “Delete” button - that’s what we need.

All you have to do is wait for the uninstallation to complete and restart the computer - at this stage you can consider the uninstallation procedure successful

Avast Removal Utility - Avastclear

If Avast antivirus software always uninstalled without problems, I would not have written this note. Unfortunately, the utilities built into the system do not always succeed in removing Avast antivirus, which is why the developers have provided us with a proprietary utility, avastclear, the purpose of which is to find all files related to their software and correctly remove them.

Unlike similar solutions from the same Eset, I liked the Avast software more... everything works correctly even with Windows 10. So, let's get down to business - go to the download page and download avastclear

This note could be shortened by forcing you to first reboot into safe mode, but in Windows 10 the method of entering there is inconvenient and the developers of the utility made an original solution - they force the computer to reboot in safe mode and automatically launch the uninstall utility (with your consent of course)

We wait until the Avast Antivirus Clear utility scans your computer and starts (this process can take quite a long period of time; for example, it took me about a minute to start)

After a successful start, we will be notified that it is better to run the program in safe mode - this is generally logical; in safe mode, the antivirus will not be launched and it can be correctly cleaned from your system. We agree to reboots and don’t touch anything at startup - an item with Avast Antivirus Clear will automatically appear in the list of operating systems.

After starting your computer in safe mode, the Avast product removal utility will automatically launch. If you did not make any changes to Avast during installation, leave everything by default, this type of settings will help in 9 cases out of 10. Click the big green “Delete” button...

...and wait until Avast antivirus is removed from your computer. After correct removal, you need to restart your computer, your copy of Windows will start as before, and the antivirus item will automatically disappear.

Afterword and alternatives to removing Avast

We have looked at how to remove Avast, and it would seem there is nothing more to add... but I have some more thoughts - after all, there are also third-party programs for organizing work with installed programs.

For example, there are third-party uninstallers (like Revo Uninstaller), however, I recommend using such methods only in the most extreme cases. As a rule, such utilities remove applications incorrectly and program remnants interfere with the normal operation of the system (it is quite possible that all files will be deleted, but registry entries and other information will most likely remain in the system).

It would be a good idea to delete files and folders created during the operation of the antivirus - just type Avast into the search on your PC and remove all unnecessary garbage from the system (this is for moral satisfaction - such little things do not interfere with the operation of the computer and do not take up much space)

In general, I have not yet encountered situations where the native avastclear utility could not remove tails from the system (after all, many people try to simply delete the folder with the program, but the antivirus will not allow this). There is a choice, but I hope you will successfully use Avast and you will not need to remove it...

Read how to quickly and completely remove Avast antivirus! from a computer. And also advice on why you shouldn’t do this if you haven’t found a better antivirus to replace it. You can quickly uninstall the antivirus using the Programs and Features function located in the Control Panel. However, in this case, the removal will be incomplete; empty directories, unnecessary files and data in the registry may remain in the system.

The step-by-step instructions below will allow you to completely clean your computer of unnecessary applications. The removal process is complicated by the fact that Avast provides protection for the antivirus itself and its components. The developers are thus trying to make the application impenetrable to surprise attacks. Additional programs, which will be discussed below, will help you completely remove the antivirus application. Even before the removal process begins, you have to go to the Avast self-defense module! and turn it off.

Remove Avast antivirus! using avastclear.exe

You can solve the question of how to remove Avast Free Antivirus by using the company's own application for completely uninstalling programs, which is called the uninstall utility. Similar to how it was described in the case of development from IObit, this tool eliminates the need for the user to use the registry editor and manually search for useless files and unnecessary branches. You don't even have to install AvastClear. Just download avastclear.exe and run it. The application will immediately prompt you to switch to safe mode and uninstall Avast.

The further procedure is as follows:

  • use the Uninstal function;
  • reboot the computer;
  • We are waiting for the uninstallation process to begin;

The tool can be launched in normal mode, but when using Safe Delete, it is usually more thorough. It is worth noting that the first of the described removal methods can be considered more effective, since after uninstallation using avastclear.exe, Uninstaller is usually able to find unnecessary files.

Ending the process

Let's move on to the final stage of considering the question of how to remove A vast antivirus. When a message from the branded uninstaller appears on the screen: “program successfully removed,” this means that the process is complete.

At the same time, some of the unnecessary elements may still be stored in the operating system directories. To completely eliminate them, we use the reboot function. This will complete the process of uninstalling the antivirus program completely.

How to remove Avast antivirus! from your computer using IObit Uninstaller

The Uninstaller application is a tool that will help you solve the question of how to uninstall Avast. Windows 10 supports the specified application. The tool makes it possible to completely eliminate programs that are no longer needed. Uninstaller simultaneously removes remnants of registry entries and related files that are usually saved after a standard uninstallation.

This tool is also suitable for completely removing the Avast antivirus system. Uninstaller has a change log, so you can return your system to the time the restore point was created at any time. You can remove programs in batches. For easy searching, sorting by frequency of use, size, and installation date is provided.

Uninstallation procedure

Now let's look at how to remove A vast from your computer step by step using the IObit Uninstaller application. The main program window is similar to the built-in Windows uninstaller. At the same time, the user is provided with a larger list of functions.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • We find Avast in the list proposed by the program;
  • Check the antivirus box;
  • Click on the trash can image or the “Delete” button.

At the same time, you can erase other unnecessary programs by also checking them.

Removing associated files

After removal, the tool will ask you whether you need to clean your computer from unnecessary keys, registry entries, folders and files. You should agree to this. Often, this will do more good than harm to the computer. Rid your hard drive of junk files. The user's consent to cleaning activates a special algorithm for searching for unnecessary elements.

The algorithm will find and erase everything that remains from Avast. This action requires confirmation. From now on Avast will be completely uninstalled. To complete the uninstallation process, you will need to restart your computer. A reboot must be performed before you decide to install other programs.

A word in defense of antivirus

We have already figured out how to remove Avast Antivirus, but the computer needs it, and then we will tell you why it is better not to disable it unless absolutely necessary. One of the disadvantages of most antivirus systems is their price. High-quality computer protection programs usually cost a lot, but Avast, described above, has a very functional free version. Thanks to antiviruses, protection does not weaken over time, since their databases are updated regularly. A few hours after a new virus is discovered on the network, the developers of major antiviruses find a cure for it. If the computer is not new, this can become a problem, since many antiviruses are quite resource-demanding. Your computer may slow down significantly. At the same time, an unprotected computer can become unusable at any time, so the losses mentioned above can often be considered justified.

Avast is a company that focuses directly on developing security software for various devices. She is one of the world leaders in this field. An antivirus is necessary because it protects not only from malicious files picked up on the Internet, but also from attacks from cyber criminals. In this case, protection is carried out in real time. Avast is often faster than other antiviruses thanks to its self-learning cloud engine, so consider the risks and benefits before removing Avast antivirus protection.

Users use various types of antiviruses to protect their personal computers. One such security program is Avast. The advantage of this application is that it can be installed for free. Sometimes antivirus programs produce critical errors. In this case, you need to get rid of them.

Many beginners do not know how to remove Avast antivirus so that there are no traces of it left on the hard drive. In fact, there are several ways by which the application will be completely removed from the machine.

Preparing for removal

Faced with antivirus errors, users begin to think about how to uninstall Avast. It will not be difficult for a professional to cope with the task, but beginners have some difficulties.

Self-defense is enabled in the antivirus settings. To completely remove the application, you must first disable it. To do this, you need to perform the following steps sequentially:

  1. Open the application. Just click on the antivirus icon located in the tray (near the clock, on the desktop).
  2. In the main menu, find the “Settings” gear icon.
  3. When a new window opens, you need to go to “Troubleshooting”.
  4. Among the entries in the list that opens, you need to find the item “Enable self-defense module”, and then uncheck the box.

It should be noted that after disabling protection, the application will notify the user of a potential threat. Don't worry, as this is a necessary measure. There is no other way to get rid of the antivirus.

Uninstalling an antivirus

Before you remove Avast antivirus, you need to understand what methods exist to remove the application. At the moment, there are 3 known methods, thanks to which not a trace will remain of antivirus software:

  1. Windows Removal Tools;
  2. Avast application uninstall utility;
  3. Third-party programs designed to uninstall applications.

Removal using OS tools

The easiest way for the user to remove any programs is to use the built-in uninstaller. Thanks to OS tools, it is not difficult to remove Avast from your computer.

First of all, you need to go to the control panel. First, you should open the Start menu. In the menu that opens, you need to find “Control Panel”.

When the new form appears, the user should look for “Programs and Features.” This is necessary in order to proceed with the actual removal of the application.

Now all that remains is to find it in the loaded list, and then select it to delete it. To do this, you will need to click on the “Delete” button.

After a moment, the program's uninstaller will appear. To begin eliminating anti-virus software, the user must click on the “Yes” button. If this is not done, the process will be automatically canceled after a minute.

When avast software is uninstalled, your computer will restart.

Cleaning the registry

The operating system will boot and the user will see that there is no antivirus anymore. In fact, everything is not quite like that. To completely remove a program from your computer, you need to clean the registry.

Again you need to open the Start menu, and then in the Search field write: Regedit. A similar command will launch the operating system registry.

In the window that opens, users will see several sections containing subsections and keys. You should be careful, deleting a key that is important for Windows will cause the system to crash.

To find all Avast keys, you need to open the Edit menu and then select Find.

In the search form you will need to enter the word “avast”. After clicking on the “find next” button, the registry will display a list of all found keys containing the search word.

You will need to right-click on all the results one by one, selecting “Delete”. After a few minutes, not a trace will remain of the antivirus.

Avast utility

Many users are afraid to enter the registry, and since it is impossible to remove avast free antivirus without this, you will have to use another method. The easiest way is to use the utility developed by Avast.

First you need to download the “Avastclear” utility from the developer’s official website. Since you can’t simply uninstall Avast, you need to boot into safe mode. To select the appropriate mode, when loading the OS, the user must press the service key “F8”. When the list of modes appears, it is recommended to select “Safe Mode”.

After loading the operating system, you will need to run the previously downloaded utility. To remove Avast, the user should select the directory in which the antivirus is installed. If the security software was installed in the default folder, you do not need to select anything.

To get rid of traces of the “defender”, you need to click on the “Delete” button. After a few minutes, the program will be removed and the computer will restart.

Third party utilities

Complete removal of Avast Free can be done using specialized programs. The most popular applications include:

  • CCleaner;
  • Uninstall Tools;
  • Revo Uninstaller.

If desired, you can find other utilities that completely remove programs installed on your computer. It does not matter which utility is selected as the uninstaller, since their operating principle is identical. First, the software is removed, and then the registry is cleaned.

It should be noted that after uninstallation, the antivirus being removed will be eliminated and the system will be rebooted. If this is not done, traces of Avast will remain on the computer.

Conclusion

Beginners believe that they cannot cope with uninstalling an antivirus program. Actually this is not true. Just follow the instructions and the application will be completely uninstalled from your computer.

The user only needs to decide on how to remove the program. Do not forget that after uninstallation you need to restart the operating system.
