We connect the Internet on the LG TV. Making a Smart TV if you don't have one

Let's take a closer look at how to set up a smart TV on an LG TV if this is your first time using a TV from this company.

LG is one of the largest manufacturers of equipment, including modern televisions with the ability to connect smart TV.

First, make sure you have a special splitter for twisted pair wire. It is necessary when a cable is already connected to one of the computers in the house.

After purchasing a splitter (switch), connect the main wire to it. Then connect LAN1 output to your PC and LAN2 to your TV.

The location of the twisted pair cable connector is shown in the figure. On some models it may have a different location.

After connecting the wire, turn on the TV and using the remote control, perform all the actions specified in the instructions:

  • Go to the main menu of the TV. Then click on the Home button to open the main menu bar;

  • In the device settings window that opens, select the networks tab and click on the network connection settings item, as shown in the figure below;

  • This tab shows two options for connecting the TV to the Internet. Click on the red connection settings button;

  • In the settings window, you can see the status of connecting the Internet cable or router to the TV. Click on the Network List button;

  • If you are connecting your smart TV via cable, select Wired network. If you are using a router, select one of the wireless network profiles. Now click the Update button and wait a few minutes;

Advice! If your router has an access password, you must enter it in the pop-up window and only then click on the update button.

  • Next, the software preinstalled in the TV’s operating system will independently carry out the necessary configuration of the new equipment. After a few minutes, you will see a dialog box indicating that the connection to the Internet was successful.

For correct operation of the device and its further configuration, you should restart the router and TV.

If you are using a cable, you do not need to unplug it; this will disrupt your Internet connection setup.

Registering a user account

To start making full use of smart TV technology, simply setting up an Internet connection is not enough.

The next step is to register a personal user account in the manufacturer’s application store.

Without registering a profile, you will not be able to use all the functions of smart television technology: you will not be able to install applications and widgets that make it easier to switch between channels and select available programs and movies.

The registration process is very simple and will take you a few minutes.

After creating your personal profile, you will be able to find out about all the latest new applications for your TV model.

Follow the instructions to register on the LG website:

  • Go to the main menu of the device;
  • In the upper right corner of the TV screen, find the account login key;
  • Enter your login information or click on the register button to create a new profile in LG Apps;

  • Review the user attitude and proceed to the next registration window using the “Agree” button;
  • In the new window, enter your address. After that, click on the special key to authenticate. This is necessary to check whether such mail has been registered in the system previously.
    Indicate only your real email address that you regularly use. You will soon receive an email with a special link to confirm your registration. Also in the future, mail may be useful for resetting and changing the user profile password;

  • Enter the password twice. You can also enable the function of sending current news to your email from the company;
  • Click on the “Register” button and check your email using your PC or smartphone. Find your registration confirmation email in your inbox. Follow the action confirmation link.
    If the email does not appear in your inbox, go to the Spam tab; it may have been automatically moved. Follow the link provided in the letter. Successful registration is accompanied by the following letter on the page;

Entering data and getting started

To log in to your page, use the Login button in the upper corner of the main screen. Enter your email address and password.

To avoid having to log in every time, check the “Keep logged in” box.

Click "No" in the pop-up dialog asking you to enter additional information.

To the question of how to make a “Smart TV” from a regular TV, there is an answer that is quite accessible and understandable to most users. The bottom line is that buyers of fancy devices that transmit television broadcasts and are connected to the Internet often have no idea that such a system can be made much cheaper. This will require some devices (game console or tablet), a little skill and suitable adapters. As a result, you will be able to enjoy your favorite movies or games online without delays.

How to make a “Smart TV” from a regular TV?

Many people have a TV at home that is not the most modern, but still works. A dilemma often arises: to replace the TV with a new model or to upgrade an existing device. The latter option has many preferences using mobile or gaming gadgets.

You can do this simply through the HMDI port of the TV, but in the end you will get a kind of monitor, the image quality on which leaves much to be desired, and managing the functionality is not very convenient (especially with a mouse). This procedure is much more effective if there is an interface adapted for the TV screen. Don't forget that a standard computer is quite noisy and is not always appropriate next to a TV.

As an alternative - various mini-devices and game consoles. With their help, it is possible to reorganize a regular TV into the “Smart” format. One of the best options is considered to be “Android Whistle”, the production of which is well established in China. There are several series of them, but the principle of operation of each is approximately the same.

Options

Modern television repeaters are real multimedia centers with Internet access and support for a variety of services. However, with maximum functions, such a thing will be very expensive. It is much easier and cheaper to build a “Smart” with your own hands from improvised devices and wires.

You can do this in one of the following ways:

  • Using a compact and inexpensive media player.
  • Via a smartphone or tablet computer.
  • Using a universal Blue-Ray player system.
  • Using the game

What can a network media player do?

Owners of a network media player can read the device's characteristics in the operating instructions and make sure that it has a lot in common with the Smart function. If previously such devices were a player with a USB port, now they are an effective and multifunctional class of equipment. In fact, using a media player greatly expands the capabilities of the TV both in functional terms and in terms of sound reproduction quality.

The player has the ability to play movies from a PC in HD format. This opens up access to music, entertainment and other files, not to mention online stores. The main media is an old TV displaying full-fledged websites and additional files.

Pros and cons of media players

To figure out how to make a “Smart TV” from a regular TV with your own hands using a network media player, you need to take into account all the advantages and disadvantages of this method. With the right approach, the set-top box used will make it possible to make a real competitor to modern “sophisticated” devices at minimal cost. The advantages of using a media player include:

  • compact overall dimensions;
  • acceptable price;
  • interaction with all common modules and formats;
  • built-in WLAN option;
  • accessibility for connecting external devices, including a hard drive.

In addition, the modification in question has comfortable operation and works with most interactive services, including online stores and social networks. The disadvantages of this method include the fact that some media players do not interact with Blue-Ray disc images.

Criteria for selecting a media player for the Smart option

Most of the latest media players are equipped with connectors for connecting a keyboard or mouse via the USB ports of the TV. In the variety of models, you can choose an option with a Russified interface and access to proprietary applications.

You should also be aware of supported connections. In any case, it must be there. A digital audio input S/PDIF and a built-in card reader would also be useful. Modern media players are increasingly being produced without a built-in hard drive, but with the ability to connect external media or a memory card.

If your TV is so old that it does not support an HDMI connection, then you will need to select analog composite connectors with corresponding inputs and outputs. Those who are not used to storing information on interactive services will need to make sure that the player is functionally able to play files in the desired format. Fortunately, the choice in this area is very wide.

"Android set-top box": smartphones and tablets

Modern tablet computers and smartphones are equipped with all sorts of interactive services and applications that allow you to perform a lot of operations, including watching movies in high quality and listening to music files. Most of these gadgets can be easily connected to your TV. To do this, you will need to select the appropriate adapters, which are not included with the device.

The disadvantages of this conversion include the limited memory of mobile devices, which does not allow storing the entire media set, but gives a regular TV the functions of a computer. To get maximum benefit, it is recommended to use special software. An Android set-top box in the form of a tablet or smartphone has a significant advantage: compactness and the ability to download the necessary content. Negative aspects include limited memory capacity, the need to use various adapters and the difficulty of watching video in high definition.

How to display an image using mobile devices on a TV screen?

Smartphones or tablets are often equipped with a mini-HDMI or MHL connector. This makes it possible to connect the device to TVs of various modifications. Otherwise, you will need to use adapters, which are selected individually, since they are not unified with each other.

For example, to connect Apple, you will need a special adapter. To avoid rapid discharge of the device, it is advisable to additionally connect the power cable. On the Android platform, you can select several types of resolutions (from 480 to 1080 pixels). Unfortunately, iPad and iPhone gadgets do not have such functions. Due to this, the image in interactive games may be slightly distorted and have black stripes on the sides. In this case, videos from YouTube will be formatted across the entire width of the screen.

Gaming consoles

One of the options for making “Smart TV” from a regular TV is to use a video console. Compared to full-fledged media players, game consoles are less functional, and some applications are paid. To get the maximum performance, users of the Microsoft Xbox 360 console must register with Xbox Live and pay for a “gold” account.

The Microsoft Xbox 360 service does not allow you to copy movies to your HDD, but plays them from DVDs, CDs and flash cards. In addition, connection of an external drive is available. All popular video and audio formats are also supported. To receive the full option, you must constantly be in touch with the updated Windows media center (DLNA format).

Sony PS-3

Next, we’ll look at how to make a “Smart TV” from a regular TV using In this case, the user is provided with two free resources focused on video playback, as well as the ability to store media information on an internal HDD format drive.

The console does not allow you to play files that weigh more than four gigabytes due to the limited capabilities of the device. "Play Station - 3" launches video from Blue-Ray, as well as from memory cards and external media of various formats within the allowed volume. Using the PS-3 console, you can listen to music, watch videos with a resolution of up to 1080 pixels, view photos and use several free online services.

Blue-Ray players

One of the options for making a “Smart TV” from a regular TV with USB is to use a Blue-Ray player. Such devices have a fairly high price, but also have great functionality. When using them, the consumer receives the following opportunities:

  • support for almost all video formats and codecs, as well as audio;
  • built-in WLAN module;
  • connecting external drives and DLNA options;
  • full set of Smart and Wi-Fi functions;
  • additional applications and access to all kinds of interactive resources.

You can watch movies in good quality without any problems, not to mention videos from YouTube. Some models are equipped with additional functionality that makes it possible to download branded programs from online stores.

How to connect Blue-Ray?

All Blue-Ray players have an HDMI interface. If the player did not come with a suitable cable, you can easily buy it at any electronics store. You can also use adapters for SCART or RCA (“tulip”) connectors.

Often such connectors are provided in a standard set. It is worth considering that when connecting the player via the SCART or RCA interface, the image will not be as high quality as via HDMI. But if we make “Smart TV” from a regular TV, this point is not critical. To connect a Blue-Ray player to a device, you may need an RCA-SCART or HDMI-SCART adapter. When interacting with RCA, you will have to independently switch the television receiver to AV mode, since this connection does not provide an autonomous transition to decoder, as opposed to SCART mode. You should also choose an adapter carefully: too cheap copies may cause interference when playing files.

What should you pay attention to?

Before you buy a Blue-Ray player, you should make sure that your TV has the appropriate connectors. If you are using an optional speaker system, you must check that it is compatible with the device you are purchasing.

To make the most of network capabilities, you need to make sure that there are ports and connectors, without which the modes will not function (LAN, HD, HDMI and others). If using the TV involves frequent communication on social networks or interactive surfing, it is advisable to choose a media player with a convenient remote control. As the latter, you can use a tablet computer or smartphone.

I hardly watch TV, except perhaps if I use it as a monitor :) But the other day the need arose to pay attention to what it shows and how it shows it. There was a need to provide children with high-quality cartoons, as opposed to what was shown on satellite TV channels mixed with adult advertising.

I set out to transfer a picture from the Internet directly to the TV, with the expectation that it would not interfere with my work at the computer. The problem was complicated by the fact that on my TV there is no such thing as " Smart TV" - did not exist, so it was supposed to use a computer with Internet access as a connecting link.

"Smart TV"appeared recently, their main function is not only to watch TV, but also to access the Internet. Of course, for this they (TVs) have a built-in web browser. Select a movie on some site and watch it!

On my TV Samsung UE-32D5000 no web browser. It is impossible to choose a movie to watch from the Internet yourself. The TV has a (useless) function to connect to the Internet to... update the firmware (I doubt anyone will ever use it).

I started digging towards AllShare. The documentation stated that "the AllShare function will make it possible to easily connect your TV to all compatible digital devices and provide access to movies, photos and music stored there." This was already encouraging.

At the first stage, it became necessary to connect the TV to the computer, of course, via WI-FI. But there was no hint of a built-in WI-FI adapter on the TV. It had to be purchased separately. And not just any one, but a Samsung one. Specifically for my model UE-32D5000, only 3 adapters were suitable: WIS09ABGN, WIS09ABGN2 or WIS10ABGN(experiments with other adapters, as far as I know, have not yet been successful).

In addition to the fact that adapters are not cheap, they are also impossible to buy (rare) in Ukraine. You can buy it in America or China, or wait until someone “throws it away” on message boards. After 3 weeks of searching we managed to get it WIS10ABGN(in Zhitomir) for $50.

So, everything is ready for the AllShare function: WI-FI in the house is distributed through a router, the computer itself is connected to the router via a cable, and a WI-FI adapter is connected to the TV.

A WI-FI router distributes internet in the house and also connects the TV to a computer

In order for the devices to see each other, I install the program on the AllShare computer from Samsung and after simple settings, having “shared” the necessary folders on the computer, I was able to see the contents of these folders on the TV screen (content such as photos, videos and music). But as you know, my goal was to make an analogue of “Smart TV” - to transfer video from the Internet directly to the TV - to watch movies directly from the network.

Advanced programmers from Samsung showed users of already outdated models of their TVs a big “fuck”, since in the AllShare program from Samsung you can’t do anything other than look at “shared” folders. I had to silently delete the program and forget about it. The solution was found as a result of 10 minutes of Internet search. The “Home Media Server” program from Evgeny Lachinov met my requirements (this miracle can be downloaded and configured on the program’s official website).

Home media server (UPnP, DLNA, HTTP) from Evgeny Lachinov is a program that provides media resources (photos, audio and video files) of your computer to other UPnP (DLNA) devices on the home network, for example, Philips, Sony, Samsung TVs , LG, Toshiba, game consoles Sony Playstation 3, XBOX 360, media players WD TV Live, Popcorn Hour, Dune, Boxee Box, IconBit, ASUS O!Play, iPad/iPhone/iPod, mobile and PDA devices.

This is not just a player that will send a movie, TV channel or radio station directly to your TV (where there is no “Smart TV”), it will be able to decode it (video stream) on the fly into the required format, pull up lists of movies from popular services (YouTube, VKontakte, etc.) .d.).

By downloading the program, you can import entire libraries of films into it - tens and hundreds of thousands, watch Internet television and archives of TV shows on your TV, using the computer only as a connecting link. In practice, it looks something like this: I work at the computer while it shows the children a cartoon in good HD quality in the background straight from VKontakte.

You will quickly learn how to set it up and use it - fortunately, there is a technical forum on the program website.

In this way, we managed to turn the Samsung UE-32D5000 into a home entertainment center, implementing something like a “Smart TV” in it.

Video from the Internet is broadcast directly to the TV screen, which does not have a web browser, smart TV or other bells and whistles

The Smart TV function on TVs from the Korean company LG appeared almost simultaneously with its introduction by its main competitor, the Korean giant Samsung. At the moment, in terms of its level of development, these two “Koreans” share this niche, and meanwhile the technology is becoming more and more popular. We dedicate this post to connecting LG TVs to the Internet via cable or WiFi and setting up such a wonderful feature as Smart TV. We will also look at how to take advantage of all the benefits of this technology.

Internet connection

The first condition for Smart TV to work is the presence of Internet in your home. Moreover, the Internet must be wired, or the method of connecting it must include a WiFi router. Thus, simple USB modems from cellular operators will not work here, so the first thing you need to do is bring the Internet into the house.

There are 2 ways to connect your TV to the Internet to use the technology:

  1. Via cable - if it is convenient for you to connect the wire to the TV, and you either do not have a home WiFi network and do not have the desire/ability to set it up, or your TV does not have a built-in WiFi adapter and there is no desire/ability to buy an external one.
  2. Via wireless WiFi network.

Which method to use is up to you, TV works fine in both options, the difference in setup will only be in the first and last step.

If via cable

In this case, you need to connect the Internet network cable to the LAN connector on the back of the TV. If you have only one computer connected to the Internet in your house, then in order for the Internet and TV to work on it simultaneously, you need to buy a special splitter (it’s called a switch or hub) and connect the Internet cable to it. Then connect one of its outputs, LAN 1, to the computer with a network cable, and connect the second LAN 2 to the TV.

Go to the menu by pressing the Home button on the remote control.

Select the “Settings” menu item and go to the “Network” section, in it select the “Network connection” element.

Select the “Set up connection” button, then – List of networks.

On the next screen, to connect the Internet via cable, go to the “Wired Network” item, if via WiFi, select the name of your WiFi wireless network from the list. Next, click “Update” and wait. If you have a password set for your WiFi network, you will also need to enter it in the window that appears.

After a short wait, you will see a message indicating that the device has successfully connected to the network, click “Finish”. Congratulations! You have just successfully configured your TV to connect to the Internet.

What's next?

LG TVs do not allow you to fully use the Smart TV function without registration. Therefore, in order to fully use it, for example, install various applications and widgets from Smart World, you need to register on the LG website. The process is not complicated, but if you are not at all confident in your abilities, it is better to ask someone who has a better understanding of technology to register yourself. To register you need to complete the following steps:

Go to the main menu using the Home button on the remote control. In the upper right corner, select Login.

Most likely you have not previously registered on LG Apps, so select “Registration”. If you have an account, then enter the data, click Login and proceed to the last step.

We pretend that we have read the user agreement, and then the privacy policy, and click agree :)

Fill out the email fields and click on the “Authentication” button, which will check whether you have previously registered. If you don’t have an email address at all, then look for information on how to create an Email in Yandex or Google, or ask someone to help create a mailbox.

Attention, your email address must be real, as you will receive an email with a link to confirm your registration.

We come up with and enter a password 2 times, agree to receive messages by email if desired, and click the “Register” button. Of course, we don’t forget the password, but it’s better to write it down somewhere.

Now you have to take a break from the TV and pay attention to your computer, tablet or smartphone. No, you can, of course, click the “Yes” button and try to complete the next step using the TV’s built-in browser, but we don’t advise you to do this, at least not yet. It will take up a lot of your time.

Therefore, click the “No” button and go check your email, where in the new letter from LG Apps we click on the “Complete registration” link. You will be redirected to the LG website, where you will receive a successful registration message.

That's it, you're done, your registration in LG Apps is complete. There are only a few steps left to fully set up your TV.

Modern electronics manufacturers strive to make any product “smart,” which is confirmed, for example, by Smart-TV technology. Having learned from this article how to connect the Internet to an LG TV (webOS), you can not only watch regular television, but also launch your favorite movies and TV series online directly from the TV screen or surf web pages using the remote control. Including accessing VKontakte, Facebook and other popular resources.

There are two options for connecting LG SmartTV to the World Wide Web: wireless - WiFi and cable - LAN (Ethernet). Each method has advantages and disadvantages, so the choice of link type depends on the needs of the user. It is worth noting that a cable connection is suitable only for those who are planning to install smart television at the stage of renovation work in the room and are ready to delve into additional parameters. Today, Wi-Fi technology is the most popular.

Via network cable

This method is far from the most convenient, as it requires installation work indoors. If you already have a network cable in your apartment for a WiFi router from your provider, then you will have to install a second one: the flow of information over one Ethernet channel can be directed to only one device.

Another disadvantage of this method is that modern LG TVs do not support all network standards of domestic providers (among the incompatible ones, for example, PPPoE and L2T) - LV equipment simply will not see a wire connected to the Ethernet port that comes directly from the Internet provider.

For these purposes, a router is required, and it can already be used to authorize the PPPoE server. Don't be afraid, 99.99% that everything will work the first time.

If a cable connection is the only possible solution, then you should be prepared to manually set connection parameters (if DHCP is not running on the router). You will need to manually enter data such as the IP address and DNS server into the device’s memory. You may also need to tell your communications provider the MAC address of your television device: some providers use this code to identify the device in the system.

Please note that if there is only one LAN cable at home and it is inserted into the LG TV, then you will have to distribute WiFi to other gadgets from the Smart-TV. You can find out the compatibility of the device with local standards from the contract or by calling the provider (Dom.Ru, Rostelecom, MTS and others).

Via WiFi

Wirelessly connecting your TV to the Internet via a WiFi router will not only take less time, but also be more convenient from the point of view of everyday use. In some cases, it is convenient to use WPS technology to quickly synchronize devices; see the section below for more details.

The user does not need to run special wires around the apartment (called twisted pair) or buy additional accessories. All you need is a router connected to the network.

An exception to the rule is those LG TV models that do not have a built-in Wi-Fi module, but still support Smart-TV technology: you will have to purchase an external network module (for example, LG AN-WF100). This accessory is inserted into a USB port, pcmcia card (for older models) or C1 connector, and its synchronization with the device occurs automatically - no difficulties should arise for anyone. The cost of such a module is almost 4,000 rubles. You should not try to save money and buy a cheap analogue, since LG TVs are compatible only with adapters from this manufacturer.

Another option for the wireless method is the Ad-Hoc network, the creation of which does not require a WiFi modem. In this case, the TV connects directly to the computer (local DLNA server) and does not have Internet access, but the user gets the opportunity to broadcast any media files stored in the memory of the laptop/system unit to a large television screen.

Settings

When first launched, the new LV TV asks the owner for permission to automatically set up the connection. Practice shows that this notification is often ignored by the user due to the reluctance to waste time on an “unnecessary” function and the desire to quickly start the list of TV channels. If auto-tuning was not performed immediately, then the procedure for further connecting the TV to the global network will consist of the following steps:

  1. We launch the device and go to “Settings” using the “Settings” button located on the remote control.
  2. Go to the “Network” section (icon in the form of a globe) and the “Network Connection” subsection.
  3. Select the access source - WiFi wireless technology or LAN cable.
  4. We launch auto settings, in which you only need to enter the password for the WiFi router or press the WPS button on the router. When connecting with a cable, you must enter all the data yourself.
  5. Confirm saving the settings.

Attention! The location of buttons and menus, as well as the interface as a whole, differs greatly from model to model. We recommend that you look at the standard instructions to avoid force majeure.

After completing the algorithm described above, LG Smart-TV will be connected to the Global Network and you will be able to enjoy watching online content. If you need to set additional connection parameters (for example, register a static IP address or hidden SSID), automatically setting the parameters is not your way. For more details and details, see the Video at the end of the article.

Attention! Although manual setup provides the TV owner with advanced capabilities, this method is recommended for use only by advanced users who need additional protection of personal information and have at least minimal knowledge in the IT field.

Possible problems

If you have already connected the Internet to SmartTV, but the device’s connection to the network was suddenly interrupted for one reason or another, do not panic and immediately rush to the TV experts for help; you can fix such a problem yourself.

The first thing you need to do is understand at what stage of the wireless channel binding the failure occurred. To do this, you need to go to “Settings”, then to “Network Status”. You will see a chain of icons of all devices involved in the Internet connection. The presence of a red check mark next to one of the icons will indicate a “broken” part of the channel. The connection will be restored in one of the following ways:

  • if such a symbol appears opposite the TV itself, the problem is that the router access password is incorrect - just update the password in the corresponding webOS window;
  • when a checkmark appears next to the gateway, you will need to reboot the router;
  • The DNS malfunction is most likely due to an error in the MAC address - you will have to contact your provider with a request to update the code in the database.

Problems may occur due to a malfunction of the WebOS operating system. To update the software you need:

  • download the firmware file to your computer;
  • download the update to a flash drive (it must be formatted in FAT32);
  • insert the flash drive into the USB port of the TV;
  • go to “Software Update” and start automatic mode;
  • agree to install new firmware.

The system itself will find the required file on the removable disk and install it. After a successful update, repeat the connection establishment using the algorithm described in the previous section of the article.

Conclusion

So, you can connect the Internet to an LG smart TV in two ways: using a LAN cable or via WiFi wireless technology. Setting up the WebOS television operating system will proceed almost identically for both the first and second methods, and any user can overcome possible connection problems. If you have any other questions, we recommend watching the video instructions.
