Traveling with children is troublesome and expensive.

For five years, my wife and two children have visited almost two dozen Russian cities. When traveling around Russia, we try to choose the golden mean: we do not live in hostels and do not stay in luxury hotels. On average, for four people with breakfast we pay 3000-3500 R per day.

Sergey Tinyakov

traveling with children

I marked on the map the main cities, towns and entertainment for children:

Anapa

Anapa is one of the main children's resorts in the country. There are 200 children's sanatoriums, camps and rest houses. Every year, 350 thousand children rest in them, so parks, beaches and transport are primarily focused on young travelers. It is comfortable to move around the city: there are convenient sidewalks almost everywhere, and playgrounds are equipped in public gardens and parks. Most of the entertainment is on the beaches and Pionersky Prospekt - the longest street in the city, which is located along the coast.

18 kilometers from Anapa, in the village of Bolshoy Utrish, there is the only open water dolphinarium in Russia. Dolphins live in the Black Sea lagoon, and the audience watches performances from the podium on the shore. Tickets are sold on the website. Entrance for an adult and a child from 7 years old costs 1000 R, for children from 3 to 7 years old - 400 R.

If you want to see dolphins and even swim with them for free, go to the beach in the village of Blagoveshchenskaya. It is located 23 kilometers from Anapa airport and 40 kilometers from the city. There, dolphins swim right next to the vacationers. They may not be visible from the water, but they are clearly visible from the shore.

In the village of Sukko, 20 kilometers from Anapa, you can visit knightly performances at the Lion's Head Theater, shoot with a bow or crossbow, visit a forge and a pottery workshop, and ride horses. The schedule is on the theatre's website.

How to get there. From Moscow to Anapa can be reached in a day by train. A ticket in a compartment costs from 2500 R, in a reserved seat - from 1700 R.

Gelendzhik

The main attraction of Gelendzhik is the twelve-kilometer embankment: this is one of the longest coastal walking areas in Europe. There are many cafes, shops, playgrounds and other entertainment. In the squares there are benches under the trees - you can relax and hide from the heat. My children and I could spend half a day on the embankment, just walking and enjoying the views. Nearby are beaches, mostly sandy and with good access to the sea.

In Gelendzhik, the largest open-air water park in Russia, the Golden Bay, operates. Its area of 15 hectares is like 20 football fields. The park has not only water slides, pools and attractions, but also an arboretum with 88 plant species from around the world. Tickets are sold not by age, but by height. For visitors from 106 to 145 cm tall, the entrance costs 900 R, for those who are taller - 1750 R. Children below 106 cm are admitted free of charge.

Even in Gelendzhik you can go to the mountains in jeeps. There is a family route without extreme climbs with a visit to waterfalls, a health park and healing mud springs.

You can arrange an excursion while walking around the city. Cars with large wheels and driver contacts are parked in many crowded places: next to Platanovaya Alley, the Burevestnik cinema, and the Gelendzhik shopping center. You can also look for information on local travel websites.

How to get there. The train goes only to Novorossiysk. A ticket in a compartment costs from 2200 R, in a reserved seat - from 1600 R. Then you need to transfer to the bus to Gelendzhik. The Novorossiysk bus station does not have a website - you can find out the schedule and buy tickets at Avtoticket.com. Fare - from 100 R.

A plane ticket from Moscow costs from 3500 R. In summer there are direct flights from the regions. There are few flights during the off-season - you can get there by bus from Krasnodar, Novorossiysk or other large cities.

How much does housing cost. There are enough hotels and sanatoriums in Gelendzhik. An air-conditioned room in a private house can be rented for 700 R per day, a room in a good guest house will cost 3500 R.

With children, it is better to go to the nearest villages - Divnomorskoye and Dzhanhot. They are located about 20 km from the city. There are lower prices and fewer tourists. A room two minutes from the sea with free parking will cost 3000 R.

Yeysk

The Sea of Azov is shallow and warm, and the climate there is not as hot as on the Black Sea coast. Rest in Yeysk can be combined with treatment at mud deposits. There are two of them: on Lake Khanskoye and at the base of the Dolzhanskaya Spit.

Getting to the Dolzhanskaya Spit is faster and easier - it is only 40 kilometers from Yeysk. You can take a tour, but it's cheaper and easier to rent a car or order a taxi for 700-800 R . If you are on your own car, there are several campsites near Dolzhanskaya. Along the way, you can buy fresh watermelons and melons directly from melons.

How to get there. They go to Yeysk with a change: first by train to the village of Starominskaya, then by bus, train or taxi. A compartment ticket for a train from Moscow will cost 3500 R, a reserved seat ticket - 1500 R.

Electric trains from Starominskaya go three times a day, travel time is an hour and a half, a ticket costs 150 R. Buses travel an hour, tickets are sold only at the bus station. Price - from 100 R.

You can still fly by plane to Rostov-on-Don for 5000-7000 R one way and then transfer to the bus. Travel time - from 3.5 to 5 hours. Departure - from the city bus station on Sievers Street, 1. Tickets cost from 430 R and are sold on the bus station website.

How much does housing cost. Housing prices start from 500 R per night per person. Look for the most profitable options on social networks for the query "accommodation in Yeysk".

A small house for four with air conditioning, washing machine, own shower and toilet in June cost 2000 R, in July and August - 2400 R. You can find housing for 200 R per person, but it will be a plywood outbuilding with a summer shower, an outdoor toilet and a shared summer kitchen.

Kuchugury

The resort village of Kuchugury is located on the shores of the Sea of Azov on the Taman Peninsula. It has not yet been spoiled by the attention of tourists: the rest here is quiet and calm, suitable for very young children. At the market, local farmers sell their fruits and vegetables. There are two seas nearby - Azov and Black.

Another popular entertainment for children is the Sochi Park amusement park. In 2017, it was ranked 23rd in Tripadvisor's top 25 amusement parks in Europe. The space is divided into 6 thematic zones, there are playgrounds, a dolphinarium, a rope park. Every day there are performances and concerts for children. Most of the entertainment is included in a single ticket, which costs 1900 R for adults and 1700 R for children from 5 years old.

Sochi Park is open all year round, including the winter months. In summer, it is better to go there in cloudy weather: there is nowhere to hide from the heat in the park, and children will quickly get tired in the sun.

On the territory of the park there is a castle-hotel "Bogatyr". Reviews of tourists about it are contradictory: we went there only for lunch. A buffet for four cost 1800 R and we didn’t like it: the choice of dishes is poor, the taste and quality are not up to par, the room is dirty. We wouldn't dare to eat there all the time.

If you want to take a break from the heat and urban development, go to the Sochi arboretum. There are collected more than 1800 plant species from all over the world. There are enclosures with parrots, ostriches and peacocks, swans, ducks and pelicans swim in the pond.

The two parts of the park, upper and lower, are separated by the resort avenue, and are connected by a cable car. In three minutes, it lifts visitors to a height of 170 meters, where there is an observation deck.

An adult ticket for the cable car costs 350 R, for the park - 250 R, for children from 7 to 14 years old - 200 and 120 R, respectively. For children under seven years old, the lift and entrance to the park are free. Payment only in cash.

How to get there. The cheapest tickets are in October, November, January and February. Round-trip flight from Moscow costs 3000-7000 R . During the season it is difficult to find a one-way ticket cheaper than 4000 R.

It takes about a day to travel by train from Moscow. In summer, a reserved seat ticket costs from 2500 R, in a compartment - from 4000 R. There are direct routes from many Russian regions and even neighboring countries.

How much does housing cost. After the 2014 Winter Olympics, modern hotels and residential complexes appeared in the city. For example, in the Olympic Park there is a hotel "Omega Sirius Park". A double room even at the height of the season costs within 3500 R. In June and September - 2500 R. A spacious apartment on Airbnb can be rented from 1000 R per day.

Everyone has long known that proper rest is the key to good health. But what if there is not enough money? Should it be completely abandoned? No and no again! To relax, even abroad, at a small cost - this is quite feasible.

Exotic foreign countries are an attractive place for Russian people. This is justified by the fact that the standard of living abroad is somewhat higher, which leads to excellent service, high quality goods and comfortable living conditions. In addition, a vacation abroad is an opportunity to see beautiful landscapes, learn something new and immerse yourself in a completely different environment. As a result, foreign countries have recently become a favorite place for Russian tourists to spend their holidays.

Just before the trip itself, everyone should decide for themselves the main thing. Rest for everyone has its own meaning and carries its own meaning. Some do not imagine it without the sea, others - without exotic, and still others - without interesting facts and sights. Depending on what goal you are pursuing, you need to determine the place.

Where can you relax most economically?

Of course, many are interested in what is the cheapest country for a holiday. For quite a long time, Egypt, Turkey and Bulgaria have been inexpensive countries to travel to. And basically, you can spend time economically in these countries thanks to the famous all-inclusive promotion. This is what makes Turkey so popular.

Bulgaria is distinguished by beautiful nature, pleasant climate and (compared to European) inexpensive prices. However, the more tourists choose these places for vacation, the more expensive it becomes to stay in them.

Today, holidays in Montenegro, Romania or Croatia will become more economical. In such a situation, it is quite difficult to figure out where the cheapest country for vacation is. A trip, for example, to Italy or Spain, will cost much less compared to other European countries. Traveling during the off-season, when the cost of vouchers is even more loyal, will help reduce costs. Inexpensive holidays are possible even in resorts such as Goa and Vietnam. These countries have the lowest prices, and to a large extent, the main part of the costs is the road itself. However, if you find and book promotional tickets for the relevant flights in advance, you can spend much less.

In which European countries is a budget holiday possible?

In general, holidays in Europe are considered quite expensive, but even there you can spend your time inexpensively and comfortably. The following are countries that differ in loyal prices. Inexpensive holidays are possible in one of the lesser known countries - in Albania. It is rich in beautiful nature, interesting history and, most importantly, low prices. Holidays in Albania are mountains, a beach, good food, clean air and a lot of pleasure. At the same time, its government has already introduced a visa-free regime many times, and, as you know, visa-free countries for holidays are the most accessible for tourists.

Another good option is to visit Lithuania. It is in this country that a full and budget vacation is possible. Lithuania is distinguished by cheap housing, numerous museums, a pleasant climate and a huge number of architectural monuments. She, of course, is included in the list as the cheapest country to relax in the Baltics. In addition, Bulgaria can be included in such a list, entry into which is possible only with a Schengen visa, but it is not difficult to obtain it. Budget holidays are also available in Bosnia, Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Romania and Poland.

Where to spend your summer vacation

He is always desired and long-awaited. After a year of work, you always want to relax and stock up on strength for the whole year. In general, the quality of rest depends directly on the choice of place, so this issue should be given special attention.

Fresh air of Spain

Summer in Spain is accompanied by daytime regularity, which is replaced by nighttime festivities. The Canary Islands are perfect for a family vacation, and the Balearic Islands are perfect for a youth party.

Hot Turkey

An inexpensive vacation in Turkey is possible from the very beginning of the summer season, the peak of which falls in the summer and the first months of autumn. It is quite hot in Turkey, so tourists usually spend most of their time at sea. In addition, this country is great for family holidays, as well as for entertainment and fun. The best resorts in Turkey are Kemer, Antalya and Bodrum.

Beach holidays in Montenegro

Montenegro, which is famous for its beauty, is opposite Italy. Summer is a great season for a beach holiday, which will help you relax and forget about city life for a while. The Bay of Kotor is considered to be a very beautiful and picturesque place on the coast. Prices in Montenegro are quite favorable, so a seaside vacation here will be not only relaxing, but also cheap.

Relax from the heat in Finland

A trip to Finland will be a great solution for those who like coolness, are tired of the unbearable heat and just want to retire by the sea. In summer, people come here not only to admire the sea, but also to appreciate the beauty of the local lakes, with which this country is quite rich. The full summer season starts here from mid-June.

Mysterious Israel

Israel has a fairly developed tourist infrastructure. When planning to relax in Israel, you need to decide on the choice of the sea, of which there are as many as three - the Mediterranean, the Red and the Dead. At the Dead Sea, you can even get a little healthier, as its waters are considered healing there. The most famous resorts in Israel are Tel Aviv, Haifa and Eilat.

We organize budget holidays abroad

Actually, the main part of the costs abroad is the road and housing costs. To spend a vacation abroad as cheaply as possible, there may be two options for the development of the situation. The first thing that can affect the cost is hot tours. The second is a personal travel itinerary, a search for inexpensive charter flights and inexpensive accommodation. A hot package trip is a pretty good idea, but it also has its downsides. Hot deals do not allow you to plan a purchase, as they are quite difficult to catch. Therefore, hunting for them should be carried out quite tightly. You can constantly monitor the offers of travel operators in the desired direction using the Internet. Of course, in this case, you must either not work, or rely on the fact that you will be released on vacation at any time, and this is extremely rare.

You can also gather in advance and look for offers among many travel agencies. There is a chance that in a few days you will find an interesting offer at a low price. At the same time, it is necessary to understand that any vacation abroad requires at least a basic knowledge of the language of the chosen country. Therefore, it is advisable to prepare in advance and learn the language. In addition, it doesn’t hurt to get acquainted with the local climate and pick up the necessary things and clothes for the trip.

In general, most of the cost of a holiday is occupied by flights and accommodation, and by purchasing tickets at a bargain price, you can save a lot.

Budget holidays with children

When planning a family vacation, first of all, young parents want to take their children to the sea. But often this is not a cheap pleasure, and not everyone can afford it. However, if you plan your trip correctly, it can be inexpensive. Rest on the sea in the countries of the near abroad and Russia will be quite economical.

Tuapse, Gelendzhik, Anapa and Sochi are considered good resorts in the Krasnodar Territory. The list is quite large and there are plenty to choose from. The infrastructure of the Krasnodar Territory is quite developed, so a vacation there will be pleasant and useful for both adults and children. In addition, on any coast you can use the services of an experienced nanny, which will allow parents to spend a little time together and go on an excursion or in a cafe. At the same time, the cost of services is low, so everyone can afford such costs.

One of the best places for a family vacation is the Crimea. On its territory there is a huge number of boarding houses designed for families with children. Almost throughout the Crimea, you can rent a room at a hotel for a small price. And, besides this, the prices on the peninsula are quite low, which will allow you to have a great family vacation even with a small budget.

Pleasant rest on the Sea of Azov

In addition to the Black Sea, you can also relax without going abroad on the shores of the Sea of \u200b\u200bAzov, which will come out even cheaper. The coast of the Sea of Azov is shallow everywhere, and, accordingly, it will be the safest when you are relaxing with children. The water here is always clean and warm. Children especially love the Sea of Azov, as they are attracted there by small shells and pebbles. The resorts here are famous for clean air, pleasant climate and plenty of entertainment. At the same time, seaside holidays are always economical, as local prices for food and housing are low. You can take a small amount of money with you, see cozy and economical hotels and places to eat in advance. Based on this, we can say that Russia is still the cheapest country to relax, and you can relax here no worse than abroad.

As a rule, in such places there are few cafes and shops nearby. But, if you choose the right hotel, then everything will be right on the spot: beach accessories, delicious food, wine ... In the photo: rest on the Sea of Azov, Kuchugury, sandy beach.

Advice We went-Know
Be carefull! If you want to have a good rest, then plan your holiday in advance! How to rent good housing in the private sector and not fall for scammers

Usually they show good photos, and upon arrival they say that they are already occupied, and they offer housing much worse - this is the most common type of fraud in the south of Russia. You only need to shoot verified sites with real reviews - the only way you are guaranteed to get what you book.

For example, the private sector in Golubitskaya - the house "Fairy Tale" - is cheap, comfortable, clean, there is a playground in the courtyard:

The beaches in Evpatoria are considered among the best in the Crimea. And the Jeval ethno-hotel is one of the most comfortable. Do you want to know what a quality European vacation is? Choose "Jeval". See prices and photos.

Anton: How many traveled around the Crimea, they thought that everyone had already seen it. But the hotel "Jeval" surprised. At first I thought it was overpriced, but we decided to give it a try. And they didn't regret it. This is the best hotel we have ever stayed in! And not only in the Crimea. The feeling that you are in a European resort. Only in Europe for such a hotel will ask three times more. This hotel made our holiday! Now in Crimea only here, there are no other hotels for me.

If the main thing on vacation is a low price, then choose the "Sanatorium Tavria" - all inclusive, inexpensive.

7. Rest on the sea in Abkhazia - cheap and comfortable!

For those who have read up to this point - we tell about the best place to go in Russia to the sea. Abkhazia is not in the first place on our list only because it is not exactly Russia, it is nearby :) In all other respects, this is the best place where you can go to the sea with a Russian passport. A foreign passport is not needed, rubles are in use, the locals speak Russian.

In the photo: seaside vacation in Abkhazia

In Abkhazia, prices are lower, and seaside holidays are more comfortable. There are much more chances to find good beaches and clear sea. In addition, there are fewer tourists on the sea in Abkhazia - the main thing is to drive away from Sukhumi to resort places, and then you can find a very inexpensive vacation on the seashore. Right on the beach!

How to get to Abkhazia

From Moscow or St. Petersburg directly to Sukhumi can be inexpensively reached by train. On the road 38 and 45 hours.
Either from another city in Russia by train or plane to Sochi (Adler) airport, and from there trains and buses go to Sukhumi, the journey takes 2-3 hours.

If you are driving on your own or through a checkpoint at the border across the Psou River, just get out and show your passport and documents for the car. Leave - through the same checkpoint. There are no difficulties at the border, a pure formality.

Where to stay

There are not many modern accommodation options in Abkhazia, mainly the “soviet” private sector, which is easy to book upon arrival. However, there are quite good guest houses and even excellent inexpensive hotels, but it is better to book them in advance in order to get a civilized one for the price of a “wild” vacation. It's possible! Here are some options.

For starters, you can stay near the city of Sukhumi and close to the sea - in the guest house "Rufina" - cheap, but quite comfortable.

We go further, where there are fewer tourists, and we find the Alamys guest house, ideal in terms of price and quality (see photos, reviews and prices), is conveniently located in the resort of Gudauta, near the Black Sea. There are comfortable sun loungers on the beach and there are no other tourists nearby. Clean sea, delicious food. You can admire the sea around the clock from the balcony of the room - you won’t be able to find anything like it on the first line by the sea in Sochi or Lazarevsky.

Sea holidays in Abkhazia - guest house "Alamys"

In addition to the sea, Abkhazia has beautiful nature, delicious wine and food. And the prices! Probably, such low prices for sea holidays in Russia are nowhere to be found. Even a hotel with three meals a day costs 2 times cheaper than in Russia.

Napra in Abkhazia - an inexpensive recreation center with three meals a day

If on vacation you don’t want to think about where to eat, just go to the recreation center “Napra” and relax:

In the photo: Napra - a hotel with three meals a day - a pleasant vacation by the sea in Abkhazia

A nice bonus in this hotel is the view of the Black Sea on one side and the mountains on the other. See photos and prices

We also recommend a trip to the magical Lake Ritsa in Abkhazia and see waterfalls and magnificent places along the way. Every year we have a rest on the Russian and Abkhazian coasts as a family of three adults and a child. At the same time, for two weeks we do not deny ourselves almost anything and fit into the budget of 75-100 thousand rubles. Perhaps our vacation is not the most luxurious, but quite comfortable and economical.

Where to go?

We choose a place for vacation, rather looking back at the features of a holiday with a child. For example, a sandy beach or small pebbles in Anapa or Azov, by definition, is better than the usual pebble beaches of Krasnodar resorts and Abkhazia.

Getting to Sochi or Abkhazian towns is longer and more expensive, but you can do it without unnecessary transfers. The smaller the settlement, the cheaper the rent will be. But you should be prepared for the fact that, if necessary, you will have to seek medical help in the district center and get to the hospital by taxi. Therefore, we choose small villages near large settlements - vacations are cheaper, there are fewer people on the beaches, but civilization is not far away.

How to get there?

We live in a region where it is not so easy to get anywhere by plane. We do not consider the option of flying with transfers - it is inconvenient with a child and definitely will not fit into the budget. There is no car either, although it’s only a night’s drive to Azov, 14-16 hours to Anapa, and less than a day to Sochi. And even direct trains to the south do not go. Therefore, getting to the resting place is another quest.

Our travel tips for Russian Railways:

We buy tickets 90 days in advance. It is at this time that the pre-sale opens.

We choose a train with air conditioning and a dry closet in advance, take more comfortable seats - in the first compartment near the conductors, with the whole family together

The child is on the bottom shelf. Almost always in a compartment, the lower seats are much more expensive than the upper ones. But taking into account the 65% discount on a children's ticket, it turns out even cheaper than a reserved seat. You can also spend the night in a reserved seat. If the difference in price is still significant, we select trains that leave in the evening and arrive at the place before lunch. With this schedule, you can save money and spend the night in a reserved seat.

We travel from Tuesday to Thursday. It is on these three days of the week that ticket prices are the lowest, because most vacationers leave on Friday-Saturday and return on Sunday-Monday. Due to the dynamic pricing of Russian Railways, a trip on these days will cost more.

Choose "route with transfers". It may turn out that with a change you will get not only cheaper, but also faster, because part of the way can be covered by fast trains. And a special Russian Railways bus will take you to the transfer point much cheaper than a regular regular bus, and exactly at the time of the train's departure.

Buy tickets with cashback. This is one of the most significant vacation expenses, so I always pay only with a cashback card. Having spent 20 thousand rubles, you can return up to 1000 back.

Where to live?

We prefer to stay in guest houses. Hotels, even very budget ones, would not be allowed to meet a modest budget. The ideal option for us is our own apartment, house or bungalow with a kitchen. Booking.com is the most popular site for booking accommodation. But not the only one.

In Sochi, Adler, Anapa and smaller settlements, you can find an apartment on Airbnb.ru. But our experience shows that the owners of most real estate objects, when applying directly, are ready to reduce the price by 10-15% or more. This is the commission that they pay for placing an object on aggregator sites.

You can find the contacts of the owners on the Internet at the address of the guest house. Hotels and guest houses of the Taman Peninsula were collected on the Taman.Ru website. There are specialized sites where only boathouses are collected - there are many of them in the Crimea, in Lazarevsky, Loo and Volkhonka.

A more varied choice on the sites "I want to go south" and "Azur", in addition, there are many objects that cannot be found on Booking. There are reviews, but the prices are lower. For example, in Abkhazia we rented a room for three with a bathroom, air conditioning and a shared kitchen for 2,500 rubles per day. A small house for five with air conditioning, a bathroom and its own kitchen on the Taman coast of Azov cost the same amount. Both options are just a hundred meters from the sea.

Before choosing one or another accommodation option, we looked at Google Panoramas - is the beach clean, is it far from the market and shops, are there noisy bars and discos nearby.

What to eat?

We select good catering options on Google Maps. At properties nearby, you can immediately see the ratings and reviews of other visitors, and sometimes even approximate prices. Compared to the popular Tripadvisor.ru, even very small villages and tiny roadside cafes are marked on Google Maps. Therefore, there are always options for inexpensive and safe catering. And, of course, in any place we look for a cafe on the beach with the most delicious barbecue.

To save money, we always choose a guest house with our own or at least a shared kitchen. Auto travelers can take a multicooker with them. Even if you don’t plan to fully cook on vacation, you can at least have breakfast in your room. Oatmeal and scrambled eggs are much cheaper than any breakfast in any cafe. In addition, mashed potatoes with a cutlet or even dumplings and sausages are much more familiar to children than fatty or spicy local dishes. Therefore, the first place we go is the local food market. It is good if there are chain supermarkets in the village. Even if you don’t go there in everyday life, on vacation they can save a lot. We are also looking for them on Google Maps.

How to have fun?

Most of the unexpected expenses are always related to entertainment. Planning travel and accommodation expenses is much easier. Therefore, we look at the reviews of those objects that will be located nearby in advance, while still at home. Is it worth going to the water park, zoo and dolphinarium, or do they leave much to be desired? But many interesting attractions are absolutely free. For example, on the Azov coast, we like to walk to the estuaries. In the capital of Abkhazia, Sukhumi, we climbed the Sukhumi mountain with an observation deck overlooking the city, the sea and mountains. They also found the preserved castle of King Bagrat of the XII century.

In New Athos, we went up to the Anakopia fortress, visited the Simono-Kananitsky monastery and the grotto of the Apostle Simon the Zealot, passed through the Green Valley with a cascade of waterfalls Three boilers, visited an abandoned railway. And all this is completely free! Moreover, the three-year-old willingly climbed the mountain and walked along the forest paths. The Maps.me application helped us find all the sights nearby and lay out a walking route to them.

When planning a budget vacation, we always evaluate what we are ready to give up. For example, we would rather choose a guest house with a kitchen and next to the sea than a mini-hotel with a pool and its own cafe, but 20-30 minutes walk from the beach. We are ready to spend time traveling by rail rather than by plane, and pay 3-4 times less for it. In addition, the son's great love for trains began from the first trip to the sea. The views outside the window turned out to be more interesting for him than the cartoons on the tablet - he certainly could save money on it.
