How to find an update in a false TV. Update LG TV from a flash drive

As with most modern TVs, there are two ways to update the firmware on LG TVs:

1 Update LG TV software from the Internet;

2 Firmware update from USB flash drive.

I propose to consider each option step by step.

Update LG TV software from the Internet.

This method, in my opinion, is the most simple and convenient. For it, you only need an LG TV with Internet access, and it doesn’t matter how the Internet is connected using network cable LAN or WiFi. Next, you need to go to the TV settings, to do this, click the "Settings" button if you have a regular remote control.

Or the "Input" button

and select the gear icon if you have Remote Magic.

Click on the "Check for Updates" button.

If updates are available, the TV will prompt you to download and install them. If you want to automate the TV update process, you can check the "Allow automatic updates" box.

If your TV has the latest software, you will see the message "No updates found".

Thus, by pressing several times on the remote control, you can easily update the LG firmware.

Update LG TV from USB flash drive.

This method is suitable if your TV does not have Internet access. Its whole essence is that you download the firmware to a USB flash drive from the official LG website, then connect this flash drive to the TV and install the updates.

Before you start updating your LG TV, you need to know the exact model of your TV and the installed software version. To find out the TV model, look at its back panel, there will be a sticker indicating the model on it. If you can’t get close to the TV from behind (hanging on a bracket), then you can go to the TV settings in the menu "General" - "Information about the TV" and see the model of your TV, you can also see the version of the installed software.

After you know the TV model, go to LG official website and enter it in the search bar.

Open the "Software Update" tab and if there is a newer version of the firmware, download and unzip the downloaded archive.

To update, you need a USB flash drive with a capacity of at least 1 GB. Transfer all information from the USB stick and format it . After that, create a folder on the media with the name LG_DTV and transfer the firmware (EPK file) to the created folder.

Turn off the TV and connect the USB flash drive to any USB port (if there is a "USB in service only" port, then you need to connect the USB flash drive to it). After turning on the TV, you will be prompted to update it, select "Install".

Often, when choosing a new mobile device, the consumer pays attention not only to the technical parameters, but also to the software component. From time to time, the developers of the manufacturing company release new firmware versions that can bring new functionality, improved hardware performance, or a new version of the operating system. Today we will describe how to flash LG smartphones and tablets using official methods.

Smartphone update "over the air"

The easiest and fastest way to update LG is the so-called "over the air" update method, referred to as FOTA in the case of smartphones from LG. Usually, alerts about the availability of a new update come when the Internet connection is on, after the device automatically performs the appropriate analysis. When you receive such an alert, all you need to do is expand the notification shade and click on the corresponding message. You can also check it yourself by following the path Settings - About phone - Software update (in some Update Center - Software Update) - Check for update. If an update is available, then a corresponding window will appear on the screen where you need to click on “Install Now” (Install Now). It is worth paying your attention to the fact that the battery charge of the smartphone should be at least 50%, and even better fully charged.

Update via LG Mobile Support Tool

It happens that the developer, for some unknown reason, did not release the next update "over the air", but the company's website has it. The program mentioned above is just for such cases. It appeared quite a long time ago and does not offer as many opportunities as more recent brothers. However, the "old woman" is still functional and often comes to the aid of LG smartphone owners. We connect the device to a computer with the Mobile Support Tool installed, after which the program will recognize your device and start checking for an available software update. If the update is available, then click on the "Start Update" button. Confirmation requests may appear, to which we answer “Next”, “Proceed”, “Start”, and so on, while carefully reading the displayed text on the monitor screen. At the end of the installation, a corresponding inscription about the end of the process and the "Exit" or "Finish" button will appear. After that, we can disconnect the mobile device from the PC and use it.

Update via LG PC Suite

The PC Suite program, or as it is also called PC Sync, has a richer set of interactions with smartphones from a South Korean company than the Support Tool and also allows you to update the software of an LG mobile device. We connect the device to the PC and click the "Connect" button in the upper left corner of the program window. After the device is detected, information about the phone will be displayed, including information about the installed software. You can check for the latest version of the software by clicking on the "Check for updates" button or by clicking on the "Mobile device" tab, and then on "Mobile device software update". The update installation process does not require any professional skills, so we carefully read what is written and make the necessary choice of action.

Update via LG Bridge

Like previous proprietary software for syncing smartphone data with a computer, Bridge offers almost the same set of functionality, but the distinguishing feature is the presence of the LG AirDrive application (for remote access to phone files) and a cleaner and simpler interface. This program was released last year and is mostly intended for the previous flagship device G4, however, according to information from the manufacturer, the utility can be used in tandem with all mobile devices from 2015 and older. To install the update, you need to connect your smartphone to a personal computer, go to the "Software Update" tab in the program and click on the "Software Update" button. Next, follow the tips from the developers.

Why do I need to update the firmware on the TV? First of all, this manipulation will noticeably improve his work, which is already a significant reason to find time and do such a necessary procedure. On devices such as LG Smart TV, uninterrupted operation is very important, because the equipment is not cheap, and it would be very disappointing if it stops working solely because the user could not properly care for the system, in connection with which it failed. .

In addition, flashing sometimes adds many interesting features that allow you to work more efficiently on the Internet, watch movies online, and do a lot of other manipulations.

As with most modern TVs, there are two ways on LG TVs that help you flash the firmware:

    LG TV software update via the Internet;

    Firmware update via USB flash drive.

Each option, as expected, has its own advantages and disadvantages.

How to update software on LG TV via the Internet

Updating LG TV firmware via the Internet is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to solve most TV system problems. In order to start the procedure, you need at least:

    Good internet connection;

    Confidence that they will not turn off the electricity at the most inopportune moment;

    And also, some free time to check the procedure.

By the way, it doesn’t even matter how the Internet is connected. The main thing is that the connection is not interrupted when the procedure for searching and installing updates takes place, otherwise an attempt to update the firmware may bring disastrous results for your TV.

Best of all, of course, if you use a Wi-Fi network. The further procedure is the same when trying to flash a Philips TV, as well as for flashing any other device, including from LG. So, here is a list of the next steps:

    Be sure to find the main menu. To go into it, you need to find the “Settings” button on the remote control. But it will only be if the user has a regular remote control;

    If there is no button mentioned above, you can use the "Input" key. It will also open a menu from where you need to go to the firmware of the device without the use of third-party tools;

    If the TV came with a Remote magic remote control, then you can use the hex icon to go to the Smart Menu;

    Having figured out how to enter the menu, you need to start updating the software by selecting the sub-item called "General", and going to the item "General information about the TV";

    The list contains the line "Check for updates", and it is this that you need to click;

    If there is new software for your device, then it will definitely appear on the monitor, and if the firmware is not outdated, then the system will not need updates, which will be reported;

If there are still updates, then to download them, just click on "OK". And in order for the programs to be updated automatically, check the box next to the “Allow automatic updates” item.

Firmware for Philips TVs

Consider how to install updates on Philips TV, given that they are the second most popular device after LG, so users will be interested to hear about this procedure. Here the instructions are much smaller.

    The first thing to do is open the Smart TV menu;

    In "Settings" there is a sub-item "Update software";

    If there is a new firmware version, then you can press confirmation, which will start the search for new programs. Only as a source you need to select "Internet";

    When they are found, all that remains is to download the desired package to the Phillips TV, and wait about an hour for it to load. Only after that you can proceed with the installation.

Update LG TV from a flash drive

If the TV has problems accessing the Internet, the flash drive method is the most profitable, because you won’t have to worry if the connection is interrupted or some other unforeseen situation occurs. The whole point of this method is to go to the official website of LG and download the software package.

It's amazing, but one firmware can create a miracle, and turn a previously not very well-functioning Smart TV into a full-fledged device. It is possible that problems with the Internet will even disappear, of course, if the TV “did not see” the presence of a connection, although it was.

So, how to update the software on the TV if the Internet is not working? Download it on your computer.

    Log in to the official website of LG. As a rule, there is the latest firmware for each TV model;

    Download the version that suits you;

    Format the flash drive on the LG TV, otherwise the device will not see it;

    Open the file with the firmware and copy it to a USB flash drive;

    Connect this flash drive to your TV and install the updates.

But before all this, you should clarify the LG model, and be sure to see what version of the firmware is currently on it. All this information can be obtained by going to the "General" menu section and selecting "TV Details". It contains information about the TV model and software version. If the software is outdated, be sure to update it.

Many may ask the question: why do you need to update the firmware on your TV? Usually there is no special need for this and you can even do without it. But when problems appear, errors pop up, or just some things cause sheer inconvenience, then very often all this can be solved with a software update.

In today's article, we will see how the firmware is updated on TVs in two different ways. One of them will be updating via a USB flash drive, the other will go through the Internet.

Preparing LG Smart TV for Software Update

Here we just need to find out some data on our TV.

First of all, you need to know exactly the model of the TV. This step is not necessary for the case of updating the firmware via the Internet. In order to clarify this information, you need to go to the settings. To do this, simply press the "SETTINGS" button on the TV remote control.

In the menu that opens, look for a tab named "Support" and in it, select the item with Product Information.

A window will appear in which there will be all the necessary information for us. There is also a TV model and its firmware version. Write down this data, for example, it is convenient to take a picture with your phone.

Before you start working with the firmware, it is important to know!

You should always remember that updating the firmware is a rather responsible operation. Here you can not deviate from the instructions. If something goes wrong, you risk damaging your equipment.

If the old firmware flies and the new one is not installed, the TV will no longer be able to be repaired on its own. So that such a little pleasant situation does not happen, try to follow simple rules:

  • the TV cannot be turned off when it is being flashed;
  • the firmware must match the model of the TV on which it is installed;
  • in no case do not remove the USB flash drive from the TV while installing new software;
  • in general, do not touch anything once again, do not try to turn something on, or go somewhere.

We update LG Smart TV using the Internet

Pretty simple way. You can update all the software without unnecessary troubles and quickly enough. The only criterion is that the TV should be connected to the Internet, and to a sufficiently high-quality network. If anyone is paying for traffic, then keep in mind that the firmware will weigh about five hundred megabytes (or maybe more).

To the Internet, the TV can be connected in two main ways: via a wireless Wi-Fi network, or using a network cable. Here it does not play a special role. But as already mentioned, the connection must be reliable. When everything is connected, you can start updating.

Open the settings by pressing the "SETTINGS" button on the TV remote control, then go to support and click on Software Update. A window will appear with the current version and a button to check for updates. Click on it.

If, at the moment, a newer version of the software is released, then you will see the following window in which you will need to click on the "Update" button.

After that, the TV will start downloading new firmware from the network. At this point, you can still use the TV, for example, watch movies. But after everything is downloaded, the installation will begin. Starting from this moment, it is better not to touch anything again and not load the TV with tasks. During the update process, it will automatically turn off and then turn on again. After that, the update installation process will end. Then you can go to the settings and look at the software version, making sure that now there is a newer version.

By the way, if the automatic check for updates function is activated, then when a newer version of the firmware appears, the TV will immediately report this and offer to install it.

Update LG Smart TV using a USB flash drive

If you do not have such an opportunity to connect the TV to the Internet, or there are other reasons that prevent you from updating from the previous example, then you can do this using a USB flash drive. In this case, we download the appropriate firmware from the network, write it to a USB flash drive, then connect the storage medium to the TV and start the update.

First of all, you must know very precisely what model your TV has and what firmware version it has. How to do this was already described at the beginning of this article.

Step 1: Download the update

Since we are using an LG TV as an example, we go to the official website of the manufacturer http://www.lg.com/ (in other cases, to the websites of the corresponding manufacturer of your TV). On this site, find the search line, you will need to enter the TV model there and press "Enter".

This is how you find your TV. Next, open the support tab and there will be a button for the software. We click on it.

After that, a list will open with all the firmware available for this TV. Your task is to choose the newest one and download it to your PC. You can determine the novelty of the firmware by the date it was added. The main thing here is that this firmware is newer than the one that is on the TV. When the archive with the software is downloaded from the Internet to the computer, proceed to the next step.

Step 2. You need to prepare a flash drive

To install the update, it is highly recommended to use a clean USB flash drive. In our case, a flash drive was used with a bunch of other files on it. Nothing terrible happened, but it's better not to risk it and clean the drive. After the flash drive is connected to the PC, you will need to create a folder on it called LG_DTV.

This is how it looks:

Using any archiver, unpack the archive with the firmware. The file that will be located in the archive must be moved (copied) to the created folder on the USB flash drive.

Once the file has been copied, safely remove the flash drive.

Step 3. Update

We take this flash drive, on which the firmware is located, and connect it to the TV. If all the information was normally downloaded from the Internet and written to a USB flash drive, then a window will immediately open on the TV, which indicates the connected media with software updates. The firmware version of the TV and the one on the USB flash drive will also be shown there. There will also be installation tips, they are also useful to read.

During the update process, do not press anything, do not turn it on or off. In general, we do not interfere with the TV!

At the end of the installation, it will automatically reboot. After that, a window like this will appear on the screen.

This message indicates that the installation of a newer version of the software was successful. Now you can safely remove the flash drive and use the TV.

Note! If you began to notice that after installing a newer firmware, the TV began to hang, or show instability in other ways, then you need to initialize the application. This usually helps.

Open the menu and go to Support. There will be an item for Application initialization. Just select it and click on OK.

After the automatic reboot everything should work fine.

Conclusion

In this manual, we tried to reveal all the intricacies of updating software on. When updating, do not forget to take into account the impact of external factors beyond your control. After all, it will be very unpleasant if, for example, at the most inopportune moment, the electricity is turned off, which can damage your TV. Therefore, if there is suspicion, sometimes it is better to reschedule this entire operation for another day.
