Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro appearance

First, let's take a look at the keyboard design.

Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

Black keyboard with adjustable red backlighting and bright glowing red letters Tt on its front, palm rest.

The brightness of the red backlight is adjusted with the * (asterisk) key, on the right in the top row. And here is the flaming logo Tt can only be disabled after installing the software.

On the sides of the keyboard, which practically does not differ much from the usual one, there are 10 T-keys. These buttons can be programmed after installing the software from the included disk (or from the website Thermaltake).

In addition to these 10 keys - 5 on each side of the keyboard - there is a 123 profile switch button next to the backlight adjustment button. The indication of the profile in use, as well as the indication of the CapsLock, NumLock and ScrollLock modes - on the indicators in the upper part of the keyboard, in the center.

Backlight and indicators on Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

These are indicator lights, they are clearly visible. The user will have to remember which of the four possible profiles corresponds to the green, blue, purple or red color of the LED. Along with dedicated keys, without gaps, in one row are the volume control keys, content playback control, ScrollLock, PrintScreen and function keys.

Using the included extractor, we can easily replace some of the keyboard keys. These are the W, A, S, D keys, arrowheads, and two Windows key caps. Optionally, the W, A, S, D and arrow keys can be black or bright red, and placing stubs instead of Windows keys will prevent the game from "falling out" from full screen mode by accidentally pressing them instead of the Alt or Ctrl keys.

Replaceable Keys Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

At the top of the front of the keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro there are two more special ports - connectors for connecting a cooling fan, covered with rubber plugs. The cooling fan itself is stored at the back of the keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro- in a special niche.

Back face Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

Taking it out and installing it in any of the fan ports of our choice, we can create a light air flow towards the hands, which, according to the developers, should increase comfort during prolonged play, prevent moisture on the fingertips and prevent fingers from slipping on the keyboard.

Cooler Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

In addition to the niche for storing the fan, we found two more free full-size USB ports at the back of the keyboard and a mini-USB port, which is used to connect the detachable cable to the keyboard. The full-sized ports can be used to connect any devices that consume less than 100 mA each, this is the limitation of the user manual.

Let's turn the keyboard over. There is nothing special on the bottom surface - four rubber feet, two niches in which hinged stops for changing the angle of the keyboard are hidden.

The reverse side of Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro

It is also worth mentioning the n-channel for fixing a detachable USB cable in it, and a red plastic insert for decorative purposes.

Using the Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro keyboard

Keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro adheres perfectly to the table surface. But, as soon as we flip the two stops from the bottom, changing the angle of the keyboard, we will lose two of the four rubber feet, the "tenacity" of the keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro will get worse. Visually Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro does not differ much from the usual typed keyboard. But it is not Russified. Therefore, "out of the box" only Latin texts can be typed on it.

The internal memory of 64 KB allows you to store 40 values for 10 T-keys (10 keys X 4 profiles) One value can be either a preset command or a whole series of actions recorded in the form of a macro. Macro command editing interface allows you to make changes after recording, for example, to optimize the delay time between commands in accordance with the game need.

Having saved the macros, we can send them immediately to the profile we need, to the keyboard Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro. And we can save macros and profiles from these commands to the computer disk and load them as needed. As already mentioned, we have 64 Kbytes of memory at our disposal - 4 profiles of 10 keys each (each key can contain a macro command).

The only thing that the developers Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro not taught to remember - the state of the logo Tt... This means that by disconnecting the keyboard from the computer at home (where the logo was disconnected), and having arrived with it to a friend or to a tournament, we will get a bright scarlet glowing logo on the front panel of the keyboard as soon as we connect our Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro to another computer. It will be possible to block the glow of the logo only with the help of adhesive tape. We will be able to adjust the brightness of the keyboard backlight using the corresponding button, but in order to completely extinguish the logo, we will first have to install the software from Thermaltake to this computer.

But, nevertheless, gaming functions Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro thought out. Registering your profile on the site allows a professional player to always have the necessary profiles at hand and anywhere in the world to bring his keyboard in line with the challenges facing the game, it's not bad.

Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro | Summary

A keyboard for a gamer - perhaps more accurate Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro can not be characterized. If you do not know the technique of touch typing, then using this keyboard you can only type in Latin texts - Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro not Russified. But it is perfectly adapted for traveling in gaming tournaments: a keyboard cover, a removable USB-cord, a cord cover, 64 Kb memory for memorizing game macros.

The keys of this keyboard can be replaced with the usual gaming arrow combinations, the software will allow you to save individual settings for various gaming solutions. If you treat the game as a profession, then you begin to see the nuances in keyboards as well. Price Thermaltake Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro at the time of testing, about 2500 rubles.

As a rule, professional gamers have two requirements for input devices or, as they are also called, devices: functionality and durability. Even impact resistance. However, the developers of Tt eSPORTS Challenger (Black) went further and added originality to the design. No pretense to pretentiousness, austere black keyboard with a fan for hand cooling. Here is both functionality and durability in a stylish bottle.

To begin with, the keyboard comes with an original fabric cover. Convenient when you often have to carry the keyboard with you, travel to competitions, etc. Of course, for ease of cleaning - a key remover and 2 dummies for the Windows function key.

Separately, I would like to consider the design: in this case, size matters. Yes, the Challenger keyboard is quite wide and long, and wired as well (no worries about the cord, the thick silicone wire is indestructible). However, small and flat keyboards in the gaming class are not in demand. The device is suitable for confident male hands. But all the keys are located so well that the hands themselves fall on the desired combinations. Button presses are smooth, but with crisp sound and responsiveness, fingers don't get tired.

How do we distinguish the original keyboard? Just pay attention to the keys: the functional F1-F12 are engraved in blue, the Tt logo is lit in the lower center of the keyboard. Inferno-red backlighting also frames the key indicators (Caps Lock), (Num Lock), (Scroll Lock), an original solution that catches the eye not only in the dark.

An innovation that the developers have incorporated into the design of the Challenger keyboard (Black) is a compact fan slot and USB port. To connect a convenient cooler, you need to use the function keys and connectors, ideally hidden under the rubber pads. So, we work and have fun all day long - a pleasant breath of fresh air will caress and stroke your fingers. A joke, of course. But the thing is irreplaceable.

There are a few more nice highlights from the developers:

  • Rubber pads on the bottom (4 pcs.) Are enlarged, preventing slipping;
  • There is a niche for a wire at the back - just an irreplaceable invention for a gaming portable keyboard;
  • The software has an accessible and intuitive interface in a characteristic red and black color scheme.

The interface settings allow you to additionally set the parameters of macros with the Repeat function, the level of brightness of the backlight, as well as settings for 10 T-keys. The amount of memory is 32kb, by the way, the keyboard interface has a timer for the duration of the game round - in the upper right corner of the window. So, the lucky winners watch and control the clock.

Overall, the Tt eSPORTS Challenger justifies the desire to buy it at low prices.

The wire here is already removable, it is connected to the keyboard using a mini USB, and to the computer - with an ordinary USB plug. The wire, as in the previous case, is thick and covered with a synthetic cord. On the bottom panel of the keyboard there are four anti-slip rubber pads, as well as two folding legs for adjusting the angle of inclination and a groove for convenient placement of the wire.

There are no complaints about the stability of the Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro. It stands securely on any surface.

Software

The manufacturer has taken care of the presence of software in the package of delivery of both keyboards of the Tt eSPORTS series. The keyboards have the same software. The program interface is made in the style of the devices themselves: in red and black colors. On the top left, there are four tabs for setting game profiles. To configure them, you need to select the desired T-key and, using the Record button, record the combination of the necessary keys. The delay time will be automatically saved while entering the combination. If necessary, you can always customize the key combination with the macro by pressing the up keys, way down or Delete or adjust the delay time.

In addition, you can optionally select options for Repeat macros. After configuring all 10 individual T-keys in the four profiles, you can save by clicking the "save" button located in the lower right corner of the program window. Or, conversely, add the configuration to the program using the "download" button. In addition, there is a "upload" button with which you can save the configuration directly to the keyboard's internal memory. For the older model, the memory capacity is 64 KB, and for the Tt eSPORTS Challenger - 32 KB. In the upper right corner of the program window is a timer that allows players to keep track of the total duration of the game. Also in the program window there are buttons for adjusting the brightness of the backlight: 0%, 25%, 75% and 100%.

Impressions from work

Both keyboards support Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. A lot of free space is required for normal placement on the table; none of the keyboards can boast of compact dimensions, this is not relevant in the class of gaming accessories. Thanks to the comfortable palm rest and pleasant key travel, your hands will not get tired at all. If we compare the Tt eSPORTS Challenger with the Tt eSPORTS Challenger Pro in terms of typing comfort, the latter seemed more comfortable to me due to the low-profile keys. However, this is a matter of habit. If you've used thin keyboards before, then the Challenger Pro will definitely suit you better.

A fan for blowing the left (or right - depending on which keys you use to control in games) hands - at first glance, an interesting idea. In theory, he should blow the fingers on the keys,,,: fingers do not sweat, do not slip off the keys, presses are unmistakable. At home, a fan is almost useless, but if you often play in stuffy clubs or other areas, a fan can be helpful. By the way, it is not as simple as it might seem at first. It spins at six thousand revolutions per minute and runs completely silent.

Thermaltake keyboards have no obvious drawbacks. I did not really like the performance of the Enter key - it is narrow, rectangular, very small. But you can quickly get used to this too.

For convenience, during games, you can lock the button Windows and also replace buttons

How often do you use macro commands in different games? Yes, there are still players who have not even tried them in action, and do not understand that it is very convenient and effective. Perhaps this is due to the fact that multifunctional gaming keyboards that allow you to create and use macros are too expensive. Today we would like to present to your attention a budget gaming keyboard from Thermaltake. Meet the Tt eSports Challenger Prime before you. Let's take a closer look at this new product.

Appearance

The device has received quality materials and excellent assembly under its control, it is made of black plastic. The good news is that the unpleasant odors of cheap plastic do not emanate from plastic. In addition, matte and glossy accents can be seen around the edges, giving the keyboard a premium look.

The arrangement of the main block of keys is made in the usual scheme, except for the shortened Enter and the additional Fn key.

Additional keys for T1-T6 macros are displayed on the left side of the main block of keys.

On the upper part, multimedia keys are separately displayed, next to which you can see keys for changing the profile.

Between them flaunts the backlight brightness control wheel. Initially, the thought comes to mind that it is responsible for adjusting the volume, and the developers decided to go further and added an interesting feature.

The key travel is long and the sound is very soft and pleasant, but you can still hear it, especially if you are going to play your favorite game after everyone has gone to bed. The font used is perfectly legible.

I was glad that the cursors block, Insert-PageDn and number keys remained unchanged.

A palm rest is located on the bottom of the device, the good news is that it is long enough to keep your hands from hanging in the air while playing or working. Of course, ideally, you could still nominate her. The dragon logo is located on the central part.

On the bottom of the keyboard there are rubber feet that prevent the device from slipping. There are also folding legs that allow you to increase or decrease the angle of inclination.

Special attention will be drawn to the special holes required for draining liquids in case you spill water on the keyboard, for example. That is, the device has received protection from water, but this does not mean that the keyboard can be washed under the tap and dipped entirely in water.

The power cable is fabric-braided and is 1.5m long enough to install the keyboard wherever you like.

Customization and functionality

Let's start with the fact that on the official website of the company you can download the software for this gaming keyboard, from where you can fully configure all the necessary functions and configure macros. The software itself is very simple and easy to use, which allows even the most inexperienced users to understand all the manipulations.

Here you can create several profiles, for example, for each game. If you are not interested in macros, then any other commands can be assigned to additional keys. I was pleased that the functions of the keys from the main panel can also be changed. You can save the profile and not worry about its safety, which allows you to use your settings even by transferring the keyboard to other PCs.

The backlight got three colors: red, blue and purple. Alternatively, you can switch the backlight to ripple mode. The device performs well in the dark. Thanks to the dimmer for the backlight, you can always set the optimal value for yourself.

The macro keys are conveniently located, you can freely reach them with your little finger and use the necessary commands. In addition, the device can store up to three profiles and to switch between them, use the specially assigned M1 / 2/3 keys. That is, the macro keys can be 18 instead of 6.

For convenience, the developers have installed on the top panel the keys for multimedia functions: "my computer", browser, return to the home page in the browser and control keys for media player functions. In addition, using the Fn + PrtScr key combination, you can enter the game mode, thereby disabling the functions of the Windows keys. In addition, additional functions that work in combination with the Fn key are located on the F1-F12 keys.

Outcomes

Let's sum up the Challenger Prime gaming keyboard. For a low cost, you get an almost complete replacement for expensive solutions. Among the pluses, the following can be noted: high-quality assembly and materials, excellent design, additional control buttons, the ability to create macros, the presence of software, good backlighting and, of course, the price. Of the minuses, nothing caught our eyes personally. The device fully justifies its cost. The choice is yours, we can only show and tell.

For a pleasant immersion in the game, not only the "filling" of the computer is important, allowing you to enjoy high FPS in any modern games, but also the peripherals. In this case, we will focus on keyboards, of which there are a great many now on sale, both from simple office models to very expensive models with displays and other "bells and whistles". Thermaltake, known for its cooling systems and cases, decided to try its hand at this area as well.

For this, the eSports division was formed, which began to develop and release gaming devices. At the moment, the product list includes 2 mice, 4 keyboards, 2 headsets, 2 rugs and a gaming glove. On tests, I got 2 keyboards - this is Challenger and Challenger pro... I decided to start with the last one, tk. more expensive and more difficult - not always better.

A distinctive feature of the Challenger series of keyboards is the presence of a fan. As planned by the developers, he should blow his palms during hot battles. Is it so? Let's check.

The Thermaltake Challenger Pro comes in a huge black cardboard box, which houses both the keyboard and accessories fairly securely.

The keyboard is housed in a black case with the developer's logos and model name. This kind of thing is more a tribute to fashion than a necessity, because such a cover will be used a maximum of a couple of times. But when you take the keyboard out of the box, you get the feeling of a high-quality and solid thing.

The device itself is made in red and black tones with a predominance of the latter. Unfortunately, in the photo it is rather difficult to convey this, but the quality of the materials is at a high level. Dimensions are 505x195x27 mm. To be honest, taking pictures of the keyboard for review, I ran into some difficulties due to its size and very reflective coating. Although it fits on the table without problems.

Let's move on to the accessories:

In the kit you can find:

* Instructions in 15 languages, Russian is present.

* USB cable - Mini USB with gold-plated contacts in a cloth case.

* Another case, in which the keys instead of the red ones are arrows and wasd. Also 2 "caps" for the Win keys, a tool for removing the keys and a spare cap for the fan connector.

* CD with software.

Immediately, I will express my doubts about the cable - what's the point in gold-plated contacts, when motherboards have ordinary ones? Again a tribute to fashion? It should be noted that the cable is braided and has a rotated mini USB plug, which is very convenient when placing the keyboard in a limited space. Next to the keyboard connector there are 2 more - these are full-size USB 2.0... True, it is convenient to use them only if the keyboard is located far from the monitor or on a retractable tray, and even then you have to unfold the device.

I will also express my "phi" about the plugs - in keyboards of other companies, the problem of pressing a key Win solved in a much simpler and more elegant way: either with a separate button or with a switch.

The keyboard has 4 backlight level:

The backlight can be controlled both through software and a special key. In the dark, the required backlight power is provided only by the 4th level, i.e. the other 2 are essentially for show. The Tt logo can also be disabled via software.

Now let's move on to the software. The utility is called Challenger avenger.

In the illustration above, I tried to describe the functionality of the program as fully as possible. The main interest is the setting of 10 additional keys located on the sides of the main layout. They can be assigned as ordinary operations performed by a combination of burning keys or by right-clicking the mouse, then the ability to select the entire text (called "All"), run any .exe file or run a macro. And if everything is very clear with the first two points, then macros should be analyzed in more detail.

An arbitrary macro can be assigned to any of the 10 additional keys. It is very simple to do this: press the "Record" button, then enter the required keystroke sequence and press "Stop". The program records not only the sequence, but also the intervals (delays) between clicks, each of which can then be set manually. You can also save the macro to a file, or vice versa, load it from a file.

In general, the software interface is quite friendly, it is difficult to get confused in it, there are tooltips for buttons with icons. The functionality I would call sufficient: the ability to customize the backlight, save and load profiles from a file, quite extensive options for configuring 10 additional keys, including macros. I will also mention 4 independent profiles, which are stored in 64 kb of the keyboard's internal memory and are switched by the corresponding key on it. At the same time, you can understand which one is selected by the light indication: the LED glows red, blue, green or purple.

It's time to go back to the keyboard itself. To begin with, I would like to say about the fan, which Tt positions as one of the main features of the keyboard. There are 2 of them, but the set includes 1. Considering that in most cases one hand is on the keyboard, and the other on the mouse, then one will be enough. The air flow is felt and really blows over the hands. However, because of the wrist rest, the hand sweats a little in the lower (if you place your hand with your fingers up) area of the palm, respectively, the fan is almost a necessity, without which it will be somewhat uncomfortable in hot battles. A fan of this size requires extremely high rotational speed in order to generate any perceptible flow. And this affects the noise - the fan makes a very noticeable noise. Contributes to this and the connection connector, which has some play, which is the cause of vibration. Unfortunately, I do not have a sound level meter, but on the Internet, figures of 39-40 dB slipped, I would compare it with the noise of a stock GTX470 / 480 turbine at 60-65% rpm. And although the noise is local in nature, i.e. from 3 meters it is practically invisible, at night the fan will be heard against the background of a quiet system unit.

The height of the keys is rather small, it is comparable to that of laptop keyboards. However, the key travel is quite large, they are pressed clearly, no noticeable backlash was found. The aforementioned wrist rest is almost perfectly shaped if the hand is on the wasd layout. But when typing, the low height of the keys, together with the stand, create certain inconveniences: if you press the spacebar with the side area of your thumb (and this is how your finger fits comfortably on most keyboards), then it constantly rests against the stand. There are also inaccuracies when typing quickly, when, by habit, you use the entire area of the key, and not just its center: in this case, pressing is tighter and less accurate. And if you can get used to it in 10 minutes, then it is very difficult to come to terms with the gap. The first part of the review, dedicated to the Challenger Pro, I wrote from it, and the second part about a more simplified version of the Challenger (without the Pro prefix), respectively, from the second keyboard. Both the one and the other do not have Russian letters on the keys, but for most this is unlikely to be a problem.

So, let's move on to the pros and cons, as well as the final verdict.

Pros:

* Aggressive and attractive design. Personally, I like it and it creates the feeling of a quality thing.

* Availability of 4 levels of key illumination.

* Playability at a fairly good level: 10 additional keys, 4 profiles, the ability to create macros.

* The keys are pressed relatively quietly.

* A cover for a keyboard, a set of accessories - although not very useful things, this is more a plus than a minus.

* Fan (s).

Minuses:

* The fan makes a noticeable noise. Two fans are even worse, but there is no need for a second one.

* Fan is more of a necessity given the stand than an advantage over other keyboards.

* Certain inconveniences when typing.

As a result, I will say the following: this keyboard is an ideal gift for an undemanding gamer. He will be pleased with the accessories and the appearance of the keyboard. It will find use for additional keys, it may even use macros. It will get used to some inconveniences over time. If you are looking for a serious gaming keyboard, then my advice to you is pass by. For the recommended cost of $ 75 (it is quite problematic to buy it in Russia, we managed to find it somewhere in Murmansk and from one of the 3logic partners, the prices are at the recommended level), you can buy much more interesting models from Logitech, Razer, Microsoft (Sidewinder X6) - they much more thought-out for the game, in terms of functionality and quality they surpass the model from Thermaltake. On the other hand, the Challenger Pro will definitely find its buyer, but hardly among experienced players.

The next part will look at the Tt Challenger keyboard and compare the two models.

Special thanks to Ivanova Marina.
