Appearance and ease of use

For a chest pocket of a shirt, for example, it is now a certain inaccessible guest, although, of course, people who firmly decide to go on a life path with a "shovel" in the sizes in the sizes of the new Galaxy S will not feel anything unusual. Yet it is less than Galaxy Note 3, although the difference is already minimal. Nevertheless, it is still not clear why it was necessary to make a new model so greater than the previous one with almost the same screens. At the Galaxy S4 side frames, for example, have a width of only 3 mm, and at Galaxy S5, they suddenly grow up to 4 mm, the same applies to the upper and lower parts of the frame - they also suddenly became much wider, although the screen itself is practically not changed.

As for the appearance, here the developers clearly adhere to a single design line: metal and leather, leather and metal - they are now used in all company mobile devices (including numerous wearable gadgets). It is a pity that when the current flagships are sold, the current flagships are sold in the company - maybe these devices would like to look really stylish. But no, as in the previous times, ordinary molded plastic used here to create the visibility of that the rear wall of the smartphone is made of leather. Due to the small difference in the color of the reflection and framework, it is difficult to visually evaluate the magnitude of the decrease in the brightness of the reflection, however, statistics from the graphics editor shows that the screen at S5 is really slightly darker than Nexus 7. It can be seen that on the maximum brightness, the modulation is practically absent (amplitude is insufficient for visual flicker distinguishability), but on medium and low brightness relative modulation amplitude high, so the flicker image can be seen in the test for the presence of a stroboscopic effect or simply with the quick eye movement. Depending on individual sensitivity, such flicker may cause increased fatigue.

This smartphone uses the Super AMOLED matrix - an active matrix on organic LEDs. The full color image is created using subpixels of three colors - red (R), green (G) and blue (B), but green subpixels are twice as much as possible as RGBG. This is confirmed by a microfotography fragment:

For such matrices, Samsung introduced the name Pentile RGBG.. Screen resolution The manufacturer believes on green subpixels, in two others it will be two times lower. It can be seen that the vertical lines have a black gap and the fact that in the amount of the colors of subpixels can be considered white, but due to the red subpixels, some irregularities of lines occurs on one side. In the case of horizontal lines there is no white gap (there are green subpixels), nor black (there are red and blue subpixels). However, these artifacts are purely academic interest, since in conditions of mobile use it is extremely difficult to visually distinguish so small details. As a result, the resolution is leveling "features" of the Pentile RGBG matrix.

The screen is characterized by magnificary angles of the review, however, the white color when there is a light shade on relatively large corners, but the black color is simply black under any corners (although the reflection from bright objects has a bluish halo stretched out horizontally, which is why black sections May be slightly breathed to acquire a "metal" shade). So black that the contrast parameter in this case is simply not applicable. With perpendicular view, the uniformity of the white field is excellent. A very good oleophobic coating and close to the standard color balance must be attributed to the dignity of the screen and close to the standard color balance (when choosing the appropriate profiles). At the same time we recall about the general advantages of OLED screens: true black color, excellent uniformity of the white field, less than that of the LCD, the drop in the brightness of the image at a view at an angle. The disadvantages include the modulation of the brightness of the screen appears during medium and low brightness values. In users who are particularly sensitive to flicker, due to this, increased fatigue may occur. Nevertheless, in general, the screen quality is very high.

Sound

In the sound plan, the smartphone is approximately the same as Galaxy S4.
