How much time MacBook Pro 15 is charging.

About the new MacBook AIR, the long-awaited release of which should take place soon, caused many disputes. Apple's greatest criticism was subject to abandon all ports, except for headphones and USB Type-C connector. The latter, by virtue of its capabilities, should become a universal connector that meets not only for connecting the periphery, but also external displays, as well as charging. Many indignant how can you take Magsafe? But let's not be hot and consider possible solutions that Apple apply.

Perhaps the new MacBook Air will work from the battery as iPad

There were never magsafe in Ipada, but it is unlikely that someone expresses discontent about this. The tablet is a more mobile device with a long battery life, which is usually not used during charging. Following this logic, it can be assumed that the mobility of the new MacBook Air will be sufficient to change the use script as in the iPad. Differences MacBook and iPad are in the form factor, as well as use for various tasks and in various conditions. While working with the iPad, we keep it in your hands, so there is no need to Magsafe. With MacBook Air everything is different and even if you assume the phenomenal battery life, you sometimes still have to charge it, then Magsafe would come in handy.

In addition, the iPad Lightning cable is significantly shorter than the MAGSAFE cable. If the new MacBook is not equipped with MAGSAFE, then the Apple is capable of a shorter cable, as in the iPad, which in itself will reduce the ability to stumble over it during charging.

Perhaps Apple will place MAGSAFE on cable

If Magsafe does not fit into the case, what prevents it from accommodating somewhere on the cable, at the USB Type-C adapter or the charger itself? Adapter - not too elegant solution, besides, it is easy to lose. Magsafe is also unlikely to connect to the charging site, so it will most likely take its place somewhere on the cable, closer to the laptop housing.

Perhaps the new MacBook Air will be equipped with an inductive charging as in watch

An excellent idea that will appeal to most users, but there is one snag - there are no inductive technologies that are capable of providing sufficient for charging a laptop current. If any of the companies can submit something similar this year, then this will be Apple. But there is another difficulty - it is difficult to present the placement of such charging. If you arrange it at the bottom, then the NotBuk will stand at an angle, the side for this is too thin, and the location in the lid behind the display, for example, in the logo - it would be ridiculous.

Charger for Apple MacBook Air (MacBook Air, MacBook AIR) - It is very reliable. However, since nothing perfect in nature exists, this accessory may fail and buy new. In addition, the user can easily lose charging and then, again, it will be necessary to purchase a replacement. In this article we will talk about the basic rules for buying a charger for MacBook Air.

In fact, there are no specific rules for the service charges of the MacBook Air charging. The cable and adapter must serve as a user who is careless for long years of operation regardless of the number of recharging.

Some of the Apple laptop owners mistakenly blame in bad work in the one, the moment when the rehabilitory battery is flored. Here there are certain limitations on the number of MacBook recharging cycles. However, to the question how many loop cycles should regularly work the battery, the exact answer also does not exist, but it is known - after a couple of years of operation, the battery is charged longer, and discharged faster.

However, as you probably understand, the replacement of the charging cable will not help in this case, it is precisely changing the battery.

But back to the question when you should change the charger. This accessory should be replaced only if the charge process either does not go at all, or is constantly interrupted, while diagnosed that the laptop acb is nothing. How to check who is to blame - the battery itself or cable? Very simple! Try to charge the device to another charging - if everything is in order, running for the new adapter, otherwise - for the new battery. However, sometimes the battery is not to blame for the described behavior, and the other "iron" faults, the service center will help calculate the specific problem.

Rules for buying a charger for MacBook Air

Purchase the correct laptop charger is very important - non-certified accessories can work incorrectly and put into disrepair itself.

First of all, before purchasing you need to define a laptop model. In order for the consultant in the store sold you the right accessory, it may be necessary for either the serial number, or the identifier of the model, or its article. You can see these parameters on the laptop case itself, on the box from under the device or in the device menu (Section Apple, then "On this Mac").

If you are going to purchase a charger in a specialized store, then on this preparatory work is completed. Next, you just go to the store, the following information is provided with a consultant and you must sell the correct charge.

If you want to order an accessory alone via the Internet, you will need to independently determine which type of adapter is suitable for your model. But nothing complicated here, do not be scared, your main landmark is the power of the adapter - they exist six species - at 29, 45, 60, 61, 85 and 87 watts (W). For each group McBook - its power. For example, for MacBook Air 13 inches A1466, a 45W adapter is suitable, then for the newest MacBook Pro it will take 87W. However, if we talk about charging for the MacBook Air, namely, this article is dedicated, then it is important to note - 45W is the power that will suit all the "air" laptops, and not just a1466. The only moment - for models released later than the middle of 2012 (A1466 relates to them, for example), you will need a 45-watt adapter with magnet connector MAGSAFE 2, for the same that the L-shaped MAGSAFE connector is released before will be needed, but also 45 Watt.

Read more about how to determine the MacBook model and the adapter you need in a special section of the Apple official site - here and here.

Where better to buy charging?

Well, now about the most important thing - where is it better to purchase a new charger for MacBook Air. This question is very responsible and that's why. Network adapter for MacBook This is not a car charging for the iPhone - the device is not cheap, and therefore you should trust only proven resources. However, it is not worth overpaying without need.

Official charging, which can be bought, for example, on Apple's website will cost 6490 rubles! Not enough, agree. At the same time, in the Chinese store on Aliexpress Adaptures come true at prices about 1000-1500 rubles.

However, we do not recommend neither the first or second. "Golden middle" - the cable is not original, but certified. Such an accessory guaranteed not to spoil the laptop, from which you are not insured, when purchasing Chinese cheap, but will not break. Prices for certified charging, depending on the model and the store fluctuate in the range - 2000-4500 rubles.

Suitable

If charging for a laptop MacBook Air broke or was lost, it will be necessary to purchase a new one. The type of adapter depends on the Device model. The model is indicated in the device menu, on its housing and the box in which it has been supplied. Having determined the model, it is worth either going to a specialized store and ask the consultant to sell charging suitable for your model. If you want to order an adapter via the Internet, make sure that the accessory will suit you with two parameters - the required power, for all MacBook Air is 45 watts and the connector type - for old models, the MAGSAFE L, for new - Magsafe 2.

Important! Buy a certified cable, it is cheaper than original, but guarantees quality!

For any portable device, the maximum battery life, charging speed and battery life are one of the most important criteria. However, not everything depends on the manufacturer - the correct operation and storage of the device will help to significantly increase the efficiency of the battery. And so how to charge laptops Apple?

In contact with

Apple's laptops use chemical batteries designed to meet advanced technologies in the industry. According to the assurances of developers, such a battery after 1000 complete charging / discharge cycles will reduce its maximum capacity by only 20%. In addition, with the transition to adaptive charging technology, the company managed to increase the overall service life of accumulators up to 5 years. However, as mentioned above, these indicators imply the correct operation of the device.

Normal use

So, when you first turn on or fully charge the battery and update the software (Apple often produces its devices that optimize their power consumption). With the future use of the laptop, keep in mind that for batteries extremely harmful long simple. Apple describes the perfect user as a person working with the device part of the day from the battery, and then installing batteries for charging. Apple does not recommend keeping the laptop on the network. If you rarely use a laptop without connecting to the power grid, it is recommended to produce a complete discharge / charging cycle at least once a month.

Long storage

If necessary, "canned" MacBook for 6 or more months, it is recommended to discharge its battery half. With a duty, a simple with a "empty" battery, the device can stop charging (we will not mention the folk methods of "resuscitation"), and long-term storage with full charge can reduce the maximum battery container. In addition, it is necessary to remember about the ambient temperature - in theory, apple laptops can be stored at the temperature range from -25 to +45 degrees Celsius, but the temperature approximate to room temperature is ideal.

Operating system settings

As mentioned above, Apple software developers are constantly trying to increase the energy efficiency of the system, but the user itself can affect the duration of the autonomous operation of the device. Below are the parameters, the adjustment of which will help save battery charge.

  • Saving energy. This section of the settings allows you to determine a number of parameters that automatically enter into force when MacBook is disconnected from the power grid. For low battery charge, the device can reduce the brightness of the screen, performance, resource consumption, etc.;
  • Brightness. Apple developers recommend using the minimum comfort of the screen brightness and in the case when it is important to keep the laptop performance on as long as possible;
  • Airport bluetooth. Wireless modules are in constant search for connections and spent battery charge even when there is no need. Disable these functions to reduce computer power consumption;
  • Applications and Peripherals. Disconnect all unused devices (acoustics, external keyboard, Bluetooth manipulator, etc.) and close unnecessary applications - even in the background, they are able to affect the battery life of MacBook.

If you find that your MacBook Pro battery is no longer charged from the native adapter, do not rush to poke him with a soldering iron. No matter how stupid it sounds, but first follow:

1. Make sure the contact reliability in the outlet (not to use the broken-born);

2. Make sure that there is a power in the outlet (insert another, obviously good device);

3. Check that foreign objects were not stuffed in the nest of the laptop (usually there are eating crumbs, compressed lumps of dust and other insects);

4. Carefully inspect the yellow connector contacts. They should not be burnt, blackened, oxidized. When you try to drown them inside, pins must come back without jamming. It is desirable once again not scratching the gilded coating;

5. Make sure that the cord from the adapter to the connector does not have mechanical damage, the chances, from under the insulation, the bare wires do not stick out, they did not go on it with an office chair, etc. Damaged wire can be easily replaced with your own hands on any other corresponding section. In MacBooks from the power supply to the Magsafe 2 connector, only two wires go:

If you are a strong lucky person, you can save just pulling the adapter from the network for a few minutes. It happens that, because of the voltage jump in the network, the charger goes into defense and it needs time to think the blocking has dropped.

Sometimes, when connecting the adapter to MacBook, the charging indicator does not burn, and in fact charging goes. The fact is that the desired indicator (orange or green) is set on fire from the command from the SMC system controller located in MacBook. Sometimes, due to accumulated errors, SMC begins to bite and then helps the controller reset.

To do this, you need to connect the adapter to the fully turned off (not sleeping, namely turned off) Macbook, press the SHIFT + Control + Option key combination and, without releasing them, press POWER. After that, while releasing all the buttons, turn on the laptop with a discarded controller.

If nothing helps, you will have to start a friend with exactly the same macbuck and imperceptibly change the chargers with it to try to connect to its charger. It is not necessary that a friend has exactly the same adapter - more powerful will also fit. The main thing here is that the connectors coincide. [Comment : According to one comment on this article, a less powerful power supply is also suitable for checking]

If with your charger, the MacBook battery does not charge, and when connecting someone else's charger, everything starts to work as it should be done, then your charging broke. Your CEP. The most bold can inform the wife that the purchase of a mink coat is canceled again, as MacBook is more important. The rest will have to repair the adapter on its own.

In my disposal turned out to be a faulty power supply with the MAGSAFE 2 connector and a capacity of 60 W, so the above for the most part will be fair for this adapter. This charger has completed 13-inch MacBook Pro models with the Retina screen:

  • MD212, MD213 (end of 2012)
  • MD212, ME662 (early 2013)
  • ME864, ME865, ME866 (end of 2013)
  • MGX72, MGX82, MGX92 (mid 2014)
  • MF839, MF840, MF841, MF843 (beginning of 2015);

MacBook Pro charging repair

Before climbing internally, it is useful to know how the charging process is initiated. You may be surprised, but Apple engineers managed to embed microprocessor control even in such a simple device as a charger. Here are the key points:

  1. the operating voltage is 16.5 volts. However, until the adapter is connected to the load, there is no idling voltage at its output (about 3B) with a current limit at ~ 0.1 mA;
  2. after connecting the connector to the maccake, the output of the adapter is loaded into the calibrated resistive load, due to which the stroke voltage sends to the level ~ 1.7V. The 16-bit microcontroller in the charger detects this fact and after 1 second gives the output key to output the full voltage. Such difficulties allow you to avoid sprawling and burning the connector contacts at the time of connecting the charger to the laptop;
  3. when connecting too heavy loads, as well as in the presence of a short circuit, the idling voltage drops significantly below 1.7V and the switching command will not follow;
  4. in the MacBook Pro power connector, the DS2413 microchip is located, which immediately after connecting to the macupus starts communicating with the SMC controller using the 1-Wire protocol. Exchange goes on a single-wire bus (average connector contact). The charger tells the laptop information about himself, including its power and serial number. The laptop, if everything suits him, connects its internal chains to the adapter and informs it the current mode of operation, on the basis of which one of the two LEDs is lit in the connector. The whole exchange of courtesies takes less than 100 milliseconds;

Considering the foregoing, it is unlikely to get to charge MacBook without a native charging. Check the power supply without MacBook will not come out either.

Theoritically, to check, you can connect to two extreme contacts of the MAGSAFE connector resistor to 39.41 com (which is not so easy to do, considering the design of the connector). After a second, a voltage of 16.5 volts should appear on the resistor. In this case, the indicator on the connector will not burn.

For those who do not know, the Apple Magsafe 2 power supply connector has the following pinout:

Such a tricky charging socket design allows you to connect your MacBook without thinking about the observance of polarity.

Despite the fact that all sorts of fool protection is built in the original adapter, nevertheless should not handle it dismissively. The power of this power supply is enough to get you with a flame at the first case, splashing the molten metal and scare to the hydraulic ... Icotes.

How to painlessly disassemble the adapter

To disassemble charging from MacBook, you will have to apply gross power, as the halves of the housing are glued to each other. The most painless option is to use the passage as shown in this video:

I managed to disassemble the power supply from my MacBook Pro minutes for 2-3 (at the same time most of the time went to find a convenient stop for pliers). After that, there are still light traces of opening:

After the body is opened, you need to carefully inspect the printed circuit board for the detection of blown tracks, charred resistors, swollen or dried electrolytes and other anomalies.

The board will most likely be filled with some compound, it needs to be accurately removed. And it would be good at the same time not to tear anything superfluous.

It does not prevent immediately call the fuse at 3.15a. Here he is in a brown case:

If the fuse is faulty, then this, as a rule, indicates a breakdown or a diode bridge or a powerful MOSFET, or both of them. These elements are burning most often, as they laid the main load. They are very easy to find - they are located on a general radiator.

If a field transistor knocked out, it makes sense to check the low-level resistor in the source chain and the entire scheme of production (R5, R6, C3, C4, D2, two chokes FB1, FB2 and C7 condenser):

During the repair of the MacBook power supply, it is strongly recommended to include it in a 220V network through a 60-watt light bulb. This will prevent the devastating consequences in the event of a short circuit in the scheme.

Be extremely attentive! In a high-voltage capacitor, life-threatening voltage can be maintained. I came out once and it was extremely unpleasant.

If, after replacing the defective elements, the power supply unit has not started, then, alas, the further repair of the Apple Magsafe 2 charger is not possible without an electrical concept.

By the way, the most reliable way to find out, has earned a scheme or not, - measure the voltage at the output electrolytes. On the working adapter there should be 16.5V:

Magsafe 2 adapter diagram (60 watts)

It was not possible to find a fundamental scheme of the MacBook power supply scheme, so there was nothing left to do except to draw it from the printed circuit board. Here is the most interesting fragment:

As can be seen from the scheme, the charger is assembled according to the classic diagram of the one-stroke power supply unit. The heart of the converter is the DAP013F chip - a modern quasi-conance controller, which allows to achieve a high efficiency, low noise level, and also realize protection against overload, overvoltage and overheating.

In the initial moment of time, after connecting the adapter to the outlet, the voltage on the turns of the winding 1-2 is absent, respectively, the voltage on the valve of the transistor Q33 is zero, and it is closed. On its drain, the voltage is equal to the working voltage of the ZD34 stabilion, which comes there from a two-speaker rectifier formed by diodes D32, D34 and part of the BD1 powerful diode bridge, through the R33, R42 resistor chain.

The Q32 transistor is open and from the same diode rectifier begins to charge the C39 capacitor (according to the chain: R44 - ZD36 - Q32). The voltage from this capacitor enters the 14th leg of the IC34 chip, which through its inner switch is connected to 10 output and, accordingly, with an electrolytic capacitor with 22 μF (failed to find its designation on the board). The initial charging current of this capacitor is limited to 300 μA, then, when it is reached with a voltage of 0.7V, the current increases to 3-6 mA.

When the chip-start on the condenser is reached on the condenser, the internal generator starts, the pulses from the 9th output of the chip are fed to the valve Q1, and the entire scheme comes to life.

From this point on, the IC34 chip voltage is powered by the C condenser, the voltage on which is formed from the winding of 1-2 transformer through the rectifier diode D31. At the same time, the internal switch of the chip breaks between the 14th and 10th conclusions.

Protection against excessive increase in output power is implemented using ZD31 - R41 - R55 elements. When the voltage at the outlet of the winding 1-2 is higher than the stabilization stroke voltage, a negative potential appears on the 1st output of the chip, which leads to a proportional reduction in the amplitude of the pulses on the 9th output.

Overheating protection is implemented using the NTC31 thermistor connected to the 2nd chip output.

The 4th microcircuit output is used to determine the moment of switching the output key at the minimum current points.

The 6th output of the microcircuit is designed to stabilize the output voltage of the adapter. The composition of the feedback circuit includes the Optocreter IC131, which carries out the galvanic isolation of high-voltage and low-voltage parts of the adapter. If the voltage on the 6th leg becomes below 0.8V, the converter switches to the low power mode (25% of the nominal). For correct operation in this mode, C36 condenser is required. To return to a normal mode of operation, the voltage on the 6th leg should be climbed above 1.4B.

The 7th foot of the chip is connected to the current sensor R9 and when a certain threshold is exceeded, the operation of the converter is blocked. Capacitor C34 sets the time interval for the auto-installation system after overcurrent.

12 The output of the chip is intended to protect the circuit from overvoltage. As soon as the voltage on this leg exceeds 3V, the chip goes into blocking and will be in this state until the voltage on the C capacitor does not fall below the reference level of the controller (5B). To do this, you need to pull the adapter from the network and wait for a while.

It seems that in this adapter is not integrated in the chip in the microcircuit, the functionality of overstrain protection (in any case, I could not be traced to what the resistor R53 is connected). Apparently, this role is assigned to the Q34 transistor included in the feedback circuit parallel to the optocoupler IC131. The transistor is controlled by voltage from the winding 1-2 through the R51-R50-R43 resistive divider and in the case of, for example, the optocut malfunctions will not allow the microcircuit to increase the voltage of the converter.

Thus, in this 60-watt power adapter, three-time protection against exceeding the output voltage of permissible limits is implemented: optocoupler in the feedback circuit, the Q34 transistor in the same chain, and ZD31 stabilitron, connected to the 1st leg of the chip. Add here still protection against overheating and current overload (from short circuit). It turns out very reliable and safe for MacBook charger.

In Chinese chargers, most of the protection systems have been thrown, as well as, in the interests of savings, there are no high-interference filtration chains and eliminate static electricity. And although these crafts are fully operational, they have to pay for their cheapness to pay a large level of interference and an increased risk of failure of the laptop nutrition.

Now, having a scheme before your eyes and, representing how it should work, it will be easy to find and eliminate any malfunction.

In my case, the inoperability of the adapter was caused by the inner disconnection of the resistor R33, which is why the Q32 transistor was always locked, the voltage did not enter the 14th foot of the controller, respectively, the voltage on the condenser FROM It could not achieve the inclusion of the chip.

After the propeller of the resistor R33, the launching chain of the chip was restored and the scheme earned. I hope that this article will help you finish charging from your MacBook about.

To assist in the definition of fully burnt elements, I make a high-resolution archive with photos (37 photos, 122 MB).

And people prepared exactly the same charger, only with a capacity of 85 W. Also interesting.

All new MacBooks in which the usual interfaces are replaced by new-fashioned USB Type-C, can be charged both from the network and with the help of external batteries (they are also charging banks).

This is what has become a decisive factor in refusing and transition to.

Now even the furthest road is not terrible for me, because by 8 o'clock autonomy from the built-in battery, I managed to add as much as only from one charging bank. And this is a victory.

There are no official explanations for charging MacBook by apple's external batteries. Therefore, we decided to create something like guide, based on personal tests, samples and errors. You are welcome.

What about charging MacBook Pro says apple itself

Apple insists that for charging new MacBook you should use the power adapters corresponding to the power that it itself puts into the kit.

  • 29 W. - for 12-inch MacBook
  • 61 W. - For 13-inch MacBook Pro
  • 87 W. - For 15-inch MacBook Pro

Nevertheless, Apple's support stresses that sources of less or high power can be used to charge new laptops.

When charging S. fewer W. Power for full use of MacBook will be simply not enough.

When charging S. large T. Harm for the device will not up to 100 W. Further - only at your own risk.

If you use a USB-C / VGA multi-port adapter, a USB-C multi-voltage digital AV adapter, through the port "C" of the charging power will not exceed 60 W - it may not be enough for full work on a 15-inch MacBook Pro.

If you connect to MacBook Pro several power sources at once, will use the most powerful, regardless of which sequence you connected them.

Is it possible to charge a MacBook Pro by a regular bank

With our experiments in this direction, Roma Yuriev. Then he did not actually manage to fully use charging banks along with a 12-inch MacBook.

I tried to connect a USB-C cable - USB-A the most conventional Xiaomi charging bank for 10,000 mAh (about the meaning of this and other similar quantities we will still talk on the text), which can produce no more than 15-18 W (this is indicated on it back side).

MacBook Pro 2017 has notified me that a network charger is connected to it, but its capacity did not increase from 71% for a couple of hours.

Please note that I also do not say that the container has fallen during two or three hours of operation that does not require great performance.

It turns out, due to low power, such a charger simply cannot charge a 13-inch MacBook Pro. Nevertheless, he is able to feed it and significantly increase the battery life of the laptop - approximately 20-30%.

The indicator is not hurt big, but it is already something. It turns out that several such cans on the road will not be useless for work or entertainment that I will try to check during the nearest move on the train, which will take about two days.

As a result, it works. And it's great.

What banks are better suitable for charging a laptop

But to charge new MacBook, of course, special decisions will be better fit, which are already appearing on the market - including in no most expensive segment.

One of the best solutions today is ZMI 10 Charging Bank (consider that Xiaomi does it), which is not so long ago of Kolya Maslov.

For example, it is capable of issuing power not some 15-18, but already 40-45 W. And this is enough to fully feed the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

When working with text and Adobe Photoshop, she replenished the battery of my laptop on 1% about 1-1.5 minutes. And its total volume was enough for me to charge the device from 0 to 100%, and until the end, at the same time I did not land it.

New technologies that are used in such a bank allow you to charge it incredibly quickly. Imagine that monster for 20,000 mAh (this is capable of charging the iPhone) fill in 3-3.5 hours When using the standard power supply from MacBook Pro 2017.

Remember how much banks charged such a volume earlier - once I tried to fill the Xiaomi chapels by 16,000 mAh standard charging from the iPhone. 24 hours for this was not enough - the process took 35-40 hours.

How many times the MacBook Pro can be recharged

20 000 mAh, 16,000 mAh, 10,000 mAh - all this marketing indicators that really have the right to life, but do not definitely tell how many times it can fill this or that device.

And the thing is that the battery capacity is actually changes with different tensionat which charging takes place.

For example, the top outer external Battery ZMI 10 states 20,000 mAh at 3.8 V, at 5 in its capacity already reaches only the mark of 12,000 mAh, and at 7.2 V, it is already less than 10,000 mAh.

And the capacity of the battery is determined in W. For example, in the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2017 with and without Touch Bar, it is 49 watts ∙ h and 54.5 W ∙ h, respectively.

The manufacturer declares that ZMI is able to issue 70.2-72 W ∙ h. It turns out that it can charge such a laptop more than once. Almost, but not quite so.

There are still nuances. The declared container of an external battery is usually greater that it is ready to actually give. There are lossesthat depend on various indicators outside our power.

Therefore, in the end, it turns out that we can only suggest how much you can actually charge an external battery or another device. And the same ZMI 10 can fill my 13-inch MacBook Pro 2017 with Touch Bar from 0 to 100% and approximately 20%. Norm.

Our reflections on the quality of all accessories

USB Type-C is a public standard, to use which does not need to be certified by Apple or some other structures.

That is why it needs to be very careful with him, because when connecting something low-quality, you can simply spoil the same MacBook.

For example, Apple generally recommends using only a complete power adapter for its charging and insists that each USB Type-C cable must have a special serial number that allows you to make sure that it is suitable for a particular laptop.

Marking of official USB-C from Apple:

  • If the first three symbols of the C4M or FL4 serial number, the cable is designed to use with an Apple USB-C power adapter with a power of 29 W.
  • If the first three symbols of the DLC or CTC serial number, the cable is designed to use with the power adapter of the Apple USB-C power of 61 W or 87 W.

My personal practice shows that in addition to the official Apple accessories, you can use USB Type-C Cables from Native Union, Nomad and other manufacturers that everyone for hearing.
