Checking by means of the system

You can check the performance of individual components of your computer using the built-in capabilities of the Windows operating system. The principle of operation and information content are approximately the same for all versions of the platform from Microsoft. And the differences are only in the way of starting and reading information.

Windows Vista, 7 and 8

For the 7th and 8th versions of the platform, as well as Windows Vista, the performance counter of computer elements can be found in the list of basic information about the operating system. To display them on the screen, just right-click on the "My Computer" icon and select properties.

If testing has already been carried out, information on its results will be available immediately. If this is the first time the test is being performed, you will have to run it by going to the performance check menu.

The maximum score that Windows 7 and 8 can get is 7.9. It is worth thinking about the need to replace parts if at least one of the indicators is below 4. A gamer is more suitable for values above 6. Windows Vista has the best indicator of 5.9, and the "critical" indicator is about 3.

Important: To speed up performance calculations, almost all programs should be turned off during the test. When testing a laptop, it is advisable to plug it in - the process consumes battery power noticeably.

Windows 8.1 and 10

For more modern operating systems, it is no longer so easy to find information about computer performance and start calculating it. To run the utility that estimates system parameters, you should follow these steps:

1Go to the operating system command line(cmd via menu "Run" rollover Win + R);

3Wait for work to finish;

4 Go to folder Performance \ WinSAT \ DataStore located in the Windows system directory on the computer's system drive;

The maximum value of the indicator for Windows 10 and version 8.1 is 9.9. This means that the owner of an office computer can still afford to have a system with numbers less than 6, but for a full-fledged PC and laptop, it must reach at least 7. And for a gaming device - at least 8.

Universal way

There is a method that is the same for any operating system. It consists in launching the Task Manager after pressing the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys. A similar effect can be achieved by right-clicking on the taskbar - there you can find an item that launches the same utility.

You can see several graphs on the screen - for the processor (for each thread separately) and RAM. For more details, go to the Resource Monitor menu.

From this information, you can determine how heavily loaded the individual components of the PC. First of all, this can be done by the percentage of loading, secondly - by the color of the line ( green means the component is working normally, yellow- moderate, Red- the need to replace a component).

Third party programs

It's even easier to check your computer's performance with third-party apps.

Some of them are paid or shareware (that is, requiring payment after the trial period or to improve functionality).

However, testing of these applications is carried out in more detail - and often also give out a lot of other useful information for the user.

AIDA64 contains benchmarks for memory, cache, HDDs, SSDs, and flash drives. And when testing a processor, 32 threads can be checked at once. Among all these advantages, there is also a small drawback - you can use the program for free only for a "trial period" of 30 days. Processes can be monitored using Windows performance counters and resource monitor, but they have different tasks, and they do not pull on the alternative. Process Monitor possesses the capabilities "sharpened" specifically for diagnostics, and therefore is incomparably more convenient.

In today's article, we will take a look at eight of the best programs that will undoubtedly come in handy when identifying problems with your PC. Let's get started.

CPU-Z is free software, the function of which is to display technical information about the hardware of the user's computer. This program was developed by the forces of the CPUID company, in the assortment of which there are also other interesting programs, but CPU-Z is, perhaps, the most useful for many users.

With CPU-Z you can get a complete list of information about:

central processing unit;
motherboard;
random access memory;
graphics accelerator.

When we talk about a complete list of information, we mean such information as CPU architecture, motherboard model, BIOS / UEFI version, amount of RAM and its frequency, and so on and so forth. With CPU-Z, you can get a really huge amount of really useful information.

Moreover, this program has even been fully translated into Russian. However, we cannot fail to mention one extremely big disadvantage, which can be found out almost immediately after researching all the functionality. And this disadvantage is the lack of a function for reading the temperature of the CPU, GPU and motherboard elements.

If CPU-Z had such functionality, then there would be no price for it. Nevertheless, for measuring temperature, you will need to resort to other programs, some of which we will consider later in this article.

Speccy

Speccy is another free and fairly functional program with which users can get various technical information about their computer. It is worth noting that the well-known company Piriform is behind the development of the Speccy utility, which also developed such popular programs as CCleaner, Defraggler and Recuva.

By opening the Speccy program, you will be able to access a number of information on:

HWiNFO

The next program on our list is a little more difficult to use than the previous two, but it can provide users with even more detailed information about the computer. As soon as you start a system scan using HWiNFO, several windows will immediately appear in front of you: general information about the entire system, the main HWiNFO window, where you can find specific information on certain components of your computer, as well as a small window to monitor the processor (multiplier, frequency, number of cores, etc.).

Among other things, the HWiNFO program can also read information from various sensors located in the computer. Virtual and physical memory, paging file usage, voltage on each of the CPU cores, the frequency of each CPU core, northbridge, system bus, RAM, data from temperature sensors in the system - whatever you want. It's worth noting, though, that the user interface in HWiNFO can seem pretty confusing to inexperienced PC users, so you may need to sit in front of the program to see what it has to offer.

AIDA64

AIDA64 is an extremely powerful tool from FinalWire Ltd. to diagnose and carry out various checks on the hardware of the user's computer. Quite an interesting fact: AIDA64 is a direct successor of the company's Everest software, which in turn is a successor of the AIDA32 program.

This is such an unusual origin of this program. She knows how to do everything that previous programs can, plus a set of stress tests with which you can identify various problems with your computer. It is worth noting that AIDA64 has an extremely rich set of functions, but, unlike HDiNFO, the user interface is much simpler, which is definitely a huge plus. Well, here's the downside: the program is not free.

PassMark Performance Test

If previous programs could offer the user similar functionality, then the PassMark Performance Test utility is a slightly different tool. The purpose of this program is to assess the performance of a computer using a set of various specialized tests, after which the user can compare the results obtained with the results of other computers.

With the PassMark Performance Test utility, you can run various tests for:

central processor;
graphics accelerator;
hard drive;
optical drives;
random access memory.

With the PassMark Performance Test, you can easily tell if your computer is delivering adequate performance or not. And if not, then through multiple tests, you will understand what the problem is. Unfortunately, this utility is not free: to get access to certain functionality, you need to buy it.

CrystalDiskMark

CrystalDiskMark comes in handy when you need to test your hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD). The program is able to work with all interfaces available today for connecting drives. For the most part, with the help of the CrystalDiskMark utility, many users will learn the read and write parameters of their disks. Nevertheless, at the end of the program's work, you will see an extensive report on the tests performed, which, unfortunately, we will tell little to unprepared users, but for experienced users - a lot will become clear if they are looking for some problems.

SpeedFan

SpeedFan is a rather interesting program created by a developer named Alfredo Milani Comparetti, which is designed to read information from sensors of the motherboard, HDD and SSD disks, central processor, RAM and video card, and also has functions for adjusting the rotation speed (RPM) coolers present in the computer. Fortunately, the user interface of the SpeedFan application is extremely simple and even translated into Russian, and it is also distributed completely free of charge.

System Information for Windows

And the last program on our list is System Information for Windows (SIW). This program was also developed by one person - and his Gabriel Topala. The utility is an extremely powerful tool with which you can get detailed information about the hardware configuration of your computer.

Among other things, with the help of SIW you can find out network information, information about installed software, including drivers, as well as system components. The interface of the system is a little intricate, but you can still get used to it, after which you will have access to the extremely wide functionality of the program, for which, by the way, there is no need to pay.
