Galaxy s2 dimensions. Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 phone: specifications, comparison with competitors and reviews

Samsung devices are, without a doubt, considered the best among the representatives of mobile phones. Even the old versions have their own flavor and are still able to surprise.

Functionality of models from previous years

The evolution of mobile devices does not stand still, literally every day something new appears in phones. However, Samsung phones of old models look quite tolerable against the background of many of their contemporaries.

The S2 i9100 device is capable of competing in functions, if not with modern flagships, then with phones located in the middle price category. For a device released back in 2011, this is a huge advantage.

Design

The i9100 is distinguished by its discreet appearance. At first glance, it will be difficult to identify the functional flagship of 2011.

The body of the device is completely made of plastic, which does not provide much presentability. But among the models produced at that time, the phone stood out pleasantly against the general background.

There are three buttons on the body for working with the phone. On the sides are located the on and off keys of the device, and on the bottom of the front side there is a button to wake up the phone from sleep mode.

On the front side, in addition to the wake-up button, there is a four-inch screen, an additional camera, a speaker for calls, as well as light and proximity sensors.

The back cover, which covers the battery, is made of rough plastic for more comfortable work with the phone.

On the back is the main camera with 8 megapixels and a flash, and below, near the company logo, is the main speaker of the device.

At the top there is a headphone jack on the top, and a USB connector at the bottom. But that's not all, there are microphones for stereo recording at the top and bottom.

It should be noted that the device is significantly thinner than many phones, and this increases the comfort of use.

Display

One of the greatest assets on any Samsung phone is the display. Regardless of the increase in the size of the diagonal, the company remains at its best, improving and complementing the screens.

Compared to the previous model, the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 has got a slightly larger screen, now its diagonal is 4.3 inches.

The display in the Galaxy S2 features Super AMOLED technology with the Plus prefix, which significantly improves image quality. This technology provides deeper images and amazing brightness.

In addition to using new technology, manufacturers have also improved the behavior of the screen in bright light. And for greater protection, mineral glass is used to protect the display. Samsung i9100 Galaxy S2 is able to adjust the backlight automatically or manually.

The phone screen has a resolution of 480 pixels by 800 and is capable of displaying 16 million colors. Among its competitors in 2011, it was one of the best.

Camera

Another Samsung trademark is its amazing quality cameras. The camera of the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 also does not fail. Simple and intuitive settings allow you to fine-tune the camera to suit your needs.

Equipped with a Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 eight-megapixel camera and has a resolution of 3264 by 2448. A pretty good camera, even for modern phones, allows you to take high-quality and deep pictures.

The LED flash mounted on the device helps to use the camera in the dark at a distance of approximately several meters.

Got two megapixels, which is good when working with applications for communication.

Video recording on the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 is carried out at a resolution of 1920 by 1080 and at a shooting speed of 30 frames per second. However, if you work with the camera for a long time, you will need a lot of space for recording. The sound of the camera is improved with additional microphones for stereo recording.

Filling

At one time, the filling of the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 in the form of a 1.2 GHz processor, as well as one gigabyte in the form of RAM looked very attractive. Even now, this hardware part is able to compete with many budget devices.

The phone works without problems with video having a resolution of 1080 p. There will be no particular difficulties in using many useful programs.

System

The Samsung Galaxy S2 gt i9100 device uses the "Android 2.3" system. Unfortunately, it narrows down the choice of programs and games to install.

The appearance of the system used has been redesigned to fit the corporate cover and has some nice additions.

The main changes affected the appearance of the shell, changed and reworked some widgets, and also fixed lags.

There were some shortcomings in the standard system on the Samsung Galaxy S2 gt i9100. The firmware had limitations in the amount of online video loaded into the clipboard. Most likely, these shortcomings will disappear when you install a newer version of android.

Memory

The Samsung Galaxy S2 gt i9100 device is equipped with 16 or 32 gigabytes of memory. In addition to the available memory, it is possible to increase its volume using a flash card.

The phone is capable of working with cards up to 32 gigabytes in size. As noted in the reviews, when using a 32 GB flash drive, problems with the device do not arise.

Battery

The device is equipped with a rather weak 1650 maH battery, which is clearly not enough for the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100. The high-capacity battery begs to be replaced with the installed one.

The device is quite capable of functioning all day long if it is not very active. With constant use and the Internet turned on, the time will be reduced to approximately 4-6 hours.

The battery for the Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 will most likely have to be replaced with a more powerful analogue, because 1650 maH is not enough for such a device.

Sound

The earpiece of the phone produces a very high-quality sound, and there are no complaints about the operation of the microphone either. An interesting advantage is that the rear speaker, despite its small size, produces quite tolerable and pleasant sound.

In addition, the presence of two microphones that allow you to create stereo recordings looks like a nice bonus.

Additional features

The smartphone is equipped with the usual functions - "Bluetooth" 3.0, microUSB 2.0, "Wi-Fi", GPRS, EDGE. The device supports operation in GSM 800, 2100, 900, 180 modes.

Equipment

The set of the device includes already familiar things. Among them are headphones, a 1650 maH battery, an AC adapter and a USB cable.

Navigation

The standard navigation program that works with Google maps does its job fairly well. In addition to the route itself, the program displays traffic jams, which is undoubtedly a plus for motorists.

The main disadvantage of working with the program is the constant dependence on the network connection. Accordingly, it affects both the consumed traffic and the increased consumption of battery power.

Dimensions (edit)

The smartphone is noticeably thinner than its predecessor, due to this, the weight of the device has also decreased. The smartphone is only 8.49 millimeters thick and weighs 116 grams.

Samsung has taken on a project to conquer gadget lovers around the world. Last year we saw a beautiful and controversial masterpiece at the same time - the Galaxy S i9000 model. Beautiful, because hardly anyone remained indifferent after getting to know this smartphone. Its thinness, chic performance and the most colorful display left a lasting impression. And the controversial model was due to the plastic glossy body, which at this price did not look quite presentable, as well as some similarity with the competitor “X”.

Galaxy S has become not only popular, it has become a true religion of android building. Other manufacturers were equal to him, they tried to catch up with him in performance, camera quality, etc. Has anyone done it in the past year? No. May fans of other manufacturers and owners of other flagships of last year forgive me, but SGS was fast, had a lot of memory on board and, as no one boasts, the pictures and videos shot on the Galaxy turned out to be Hollywood. The first one who encroached on the place of the leader of photography and video filming was, but this is already a model of the new year. And the Galaxy S is easy to stretch with it.

Surprisingly, Samsung managed to release not just a good smartphone, but a good long-playing smartphone. While, by the standards of modern smartphone construction, the life span of the Galaxy S should have faded, a second nexus was released - the Nexus S, based on the i9000. After a while, the company is releasing modifications of the Galaxy S with a different display, with a different processor. Surprisingly, even after a year, the smartphone remains relevant almost as much as before. Many of my acquaintances are buying SGS right now, due to the reduced cost and the lack of alternatives for this money. I recommend it myself. If you don't already know, I have both a Nexus S and a Galaxy S in my family.

But if you are content with a successful product for a long time, you can follow the path of the “N” company. And the company "M" after a while will be glad to enter into a partnership with you. It's as if we wrote one successful article, and then didn't write anything for a month. Samsung understands this, so today we will not talk about the i9000, but about the i9100 or Samsung Galaxy S 2.

This is the direct heir to the legendary "galaxy". Since the parent was a concrete revolutionary in the market, the son must be brought up in the best traditions. And it will turn out proportionally better. What happened?

Design and first impressions

Before the first acquaintance with SGS 2, I was ready for the following: it is thin, too wide and not very comfortable to hold in the hand. Objectively, this is true. Subjectively, I have huge paws and are comfortable for me. In the video review, I twist it easily, in one hand, demonstrating its appearance. The Galaxy S 2 is truly incredibly thin at just 8.5mm. If to the first SGS I posed the question: "How did it all fit in such a weight?"

The sensations from the materials of the case are not enthusiastic. I admired the case, although these devices are in different price categories. The case is completely plastic, and in some places the plastic seems to be of lower quality than in the first Galaxy S. The phone is assembled well, during use I could not feel the appearance of backlash, I think there will be no problems with this. There is no flex and torsion of the case, which I saw in the SE Xperia arc. Glossy surfaces have become much less, for example, the entire back cover is grooved. Of course, the feeling of an expensive thing, as in the case of the iPhone 4, does not appear, but this is at the level of stereotypes. It is interesting that Samsung really does not pay attention to such "trifles" as metal in the case, but users do not go on strike over this either.

The design clearly shows the features of its predecessor, but the second "galaxy" does not evoke such persistent associations with a competitor. Now this is a unique model, no one will consider you a poor smartphone owner who has not saved up for a competitor. For a complete experience, you need to not only turn the smartphone in your hands, but also turn on the display. Here he just gives the most of the originality of the model.

In general, the impressions are great, but, I will not hide, I expected a little more.

Location of elements and their description

Moving on to the tedious part of the review - considering the elements located on the sides of SGS 2.

In front we see a large 4.27 ″ display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels, made using Super AMOLED Plus technology. The resolution is the same as on the previous model, but with a larger diagonal, the clarity should be less. But she's bigger! The reason for this is the rejection of the PenTile technology, now at one point there are not two, but three subpixels. It looks like this:

In practice, the 4.27 "picture on the SGS 2 is sharper than the 4" picture on the SGS. The screen continues to amaze with its colors, I think for a smartphone and a mobile device in general - Super AMOLED (even without the PLUS prefix) is the right technology. In addition, now you yourself can adjust the temperature of the image by choosing a comfortable gamut of colors for yourself in the settings.

The control key block is similar to that of the original SGS. Above the screen is a front camera, proximity and light sensors, and a speaker.

On the right there is a key for locking the screen and turning on the device, on the left - a volume control key.

The connector for MicroUSB is now on the bottom, and rightly so, in the first model it is not the best location. Rather, only placement on the front side, near the screen, would be more unfortunate. Above, there is only a headphone jack. Above and below there is also a microphone.

The back side is very practical. The gloss remained, but only at the very bottom, on the ledge. By the way, this particular solution may not be the most successful one, because with this protrusion the phone will rest on all surfaces and will surely wind up with time. And the quality of the glossy plastic seemed to me worse than in the original Galaxy S, but in general, of course, this arrangement of materials is better.

What is very surprising is the camera. In a case of such thickness, they placed not just a camera “for show”, but a full-fledged photo and video camera. Both stills and videos are of excellent quality and without any discounts on thickness. Pictures can be taken with a maximum resolution of 8 MP, and video at 1080p. The manufacturer claims a frame rate of 30 frames / s even at the maximum resolution, but the naked eye can see that the picture is much smoother at 720p.

I can call the Samsung Galaxy S 2 camera, if not the best, then one of the 2-3 best phones on the market in general. With such a size! Ay-yay-yay to all competitors! This is exactly the smartphone that you can safely take on vacation instead of a photo and video camera. This is not a DSLR, but a very high-quality solution for good memory.

Sample Videos

The battery cover is so thin that it is difficult to simply pick it up without bending it. However, plastic is elastic, you are unlikely to break it if you use the phone without fanaticism.

Under the cover we see a rechargeable battery with a capacity of 1650 mAh. This is practically a record capacity among android smartphones. The battery of the same capacity is installed in the Samsung i9003 Galaxy SL, but the Galaxy S 2 lasts longer on a single charge. This is due to the more economical display technology, even compared to the previous generation Super AMOLED, Plus is more careful about the battery. Also, the processor reduces the frequency when tasks do not require all the performance. SGS2 I easily lived for a day and looked much nicer in terms of autonomy than my Nexus S.

Above the battery, there are slots for a microSD memory card and a SIM card.

Unfortunately, the camera key was not stuck, with such dimensions it is not very convenient to take pictures aiming at the key on the display.

ON

The smartphone is sold with the latest Android version - 2.3 Gingerbread. As you might expect, the fourth edition of TouchWiz was pulled on top of Android. Of the features, I note the changed function of adding widgets or icons to the desktop, advanced settings for energy saving, and many other system settings. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 features a gyroscope. For example, you can zoom images in the gallery or scale pages in the browser using a slight tilt of the body, after placing two fingers on the screen. Pretty cool to tell you and it works clearly.

I am glad that there are photo and video editors right in the stock smartphone. Management in these applications is intuitive, and perhaps they will be useful to you.

Specifications

This is the strong point of the device. Galaxy S 2 is the first dual-core Samsung smartphone, powered by a proprietary Exynos 4210 processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz. Compared to the Nvidia Tegra 2, the difference is not noticeable. However, there is a nuance, all games developed for dual-core processors are sharpened (read imposed by marketers) for Tegra 2. Of course, Galaxy S 2 easily copes with them, but you can't do without finishing the software.

The smartphone does not just work fast, the interface literally flies out of hand. During the use of "quirks" from the TouchWiz side, I did not notice. It is almost impossible to occupy 1 GB of RAM with running applications.

The main memory of the smartphone is formatted in FAT32, which negates the ability to write large files. The need for such files on the phone is negligible, but the fact itself is not encouraging.

Audio playback is good. The sound quality should satisfy the non-biased music lover, but it is inferior to the iPhone 4.

Many video formats are played out of the box, DivX / XVid are supported.

  • Dimensions: 125.30 x 66.10 x 8.49 mm

conclusions

Before saying that we have one of the most anticipated new products of the year in our hands, I reviewed several large forums and everywhere the discussion threads of the Samsung Galaxy S 2 have already grown more than the branches of most established models. This is despite the fact that the smartphone is not yet sold everywhere. The receiver of the first SGS was interesting long before the announcement, many tried to guess what it would be like. Have your expectations been met? I cannot say that this is an ideal smartphone for some reason, including a proprietary processor, a plastic case and others, but little things. But after all, there were more questions to the first Galaxy S, remember at least all the negative that poured in its direction because of the completely glossy case. Nevertheless, the model became a real hit of sales, even I had to buy it.

It is a little embarrassing that the model has a chance to become a kind of passing link between the Galaxy S and Galaxy S 3, which, according to some rumors, may appear as early as this fall. This is not about the fact that the second generation will immediately lose its relevance, but the question will be why the manufacturer is so quickly bringing to the market a replacement for the flagship. But in my opinion, this should not happen for completely banal reasons - 3-4 months is too short a period for the life of a flagship. In the third quarter, the second Galaxy should only get to the states, so the autumn three will rather remain a rumor.

In my opinion, this is one of the most feature-rich and technically advanced smartphones. I think the Galaxy S 2 will be great for advanced bloggers and journalists, when at any time there may be a need to make quality material and post it on the site, while not being at the workplace. You can shoot a “hot” video (in a good way), edit it, describe it and publish it on your blog or on your resource. Isn't it a song?

Speed - quality - huge screen - processor - perfect color reproduction - camera - sound - sensor so generally a fairy tale, I liked it more than on the iPhone 4 and many, many things.

Screen, assembly, speed of work, thinness, weight. And a bunch of other things.

Unmeasured memory. It didn't work out completely. Excellent speed of applications and the system as a whole Suuuuuuuuuuuper screen, no problems on a bright background. Very thin and lightweight. The chest pocket of the shirt does not hold back. High-quality camera for both photo and video

    1) Large screen - it is convenient to watch the Internet, navigation and video, but hence the big drawback - wide, not ergonomic - see drawbacks. 2) fast navigation, quickly catches satellites - and ... the battery runs out quickly (see disadvantages).

I love my Galaxy S II! I have been using it for two years now. Before that there was iPone ... A bright screen, a huge selection of free games and useful applications on web resources for android and samsung. Everything is convenient, everything is clear, everything can be found or guessed. Swipe the contact to the right - you call, to the left - sms-go. Relatively lightweight, takes up relatively little space in your purse. And what a big screen! And how clearly he takes pictures! Focus cannot be compared to iPhone! The video just switches. On an iPhone, you had to pay for video software. I recharge the battery in the morning when I go to work. The battery lasts for a long time. Standard SIM card. Beautiful animated screensavers - I have the weather right now: what the weather is outside the window, the same is on the phone, although the phases of the moon do not change at night, in Linux they change on the laptop. Maybe

Bulletproof: DDD Well, of course, I'm exaggerating pretty much, but the essence is clear, I think) Gorilla glass does its job: on the very first day of operation, it pounced on the phone with a knife and poked at the screen. Not a scratch remained (= - a bright, eye-pleasing screen - a pleasant sound through the headphones (I haven't even tried my own ones that come with the kit) - the battery holds for a long time. This was one of the most important criteria when choosing a phone, so it was incredibly pleased. Depends on how many programs are simultaneously running in the background, but usually with 2-3 programs (ICQ / Skype / reader) at medium / high brightness without GPS and bluetooth always on, it works for about 8 hours. Well, of course + music) - Convenient GPS navigation

The external speaker during games (in landscape orientation of the screen) will try to close it with your right hand.
    - Slight "yellowness" of the display on the left side - the disease of the majority of SGS2 (barely noticeable on a gray background, for example, after pulling out the upper "curtain" for turning on / off Wi-Fi / bluetooth / GPS)
    - Spots on the display that are ONLY visible on a black / gray background when looking at the screen in complete darkness (for example, pause the black YOUTUBE screen). Most likely, the feature of the phone's manufacturing process looks like glue spots. Spots are NOT visible at all during everyday use and do not interfere even with low brightness. Honestly, I completely forgot about their existence, but for a review you need to write everything as it is.
-Build quality. Not the overall quality, but one point. On the right side (slightly lower to

Battery (with active use, 5-6 hours are enough, sometimes even less, especially if you use 3G Internet), there is no indicator light, speaker (the sound is not saturated, there is no pleasure when listening to music through the phone speaker), a separate button for the camera is missing , the contacts menu takes a long time to load (which is very strange), GPS (does not always work right away)

Sorry there is no camera focus button
    - the buttons on the sides are a little too small, although they are not particularly needed)

The wretched shell of Samsung. The first two days I just regretted having bought the device: after HTC Sense it is impossible to consider it acceptable. On the third day I installed Go launcher EX and my life was good. :)
    - Delay when turning on the device about one and a half seconds (turning on the screen): very annoying
    - Often freezes, and you have to overload hard, tk. does not react to anything. More often this happens after removing from charging, but sometimes it freezes in standby mode, then all calls go, but the phone ignores them and after an overload in missed calls does not show ... Perhaps the problem is in some software, but exactly with that With the same software (all from the market, there are no broken applications), HTC Desire was orphaned for months without failures.

    2 years ago 0

    1) the main drawback is a very weak battery, lasts for 1-1.5 days, and then if you do not actively watch the Internet, the screen eats up all the energy (see the report on devices built into the smartphone, maximum battery life - 70% of the total capacity is consumed by the screen) ... My Nokia E52 smartphone works in phone mode for 6-7 days (!), And with music and navigation for at least 3 days - which is completely unattainable for Galaxy II. And constantly thinking about recharging, carrying a charger or USB cable with you is unbearable.
    2) too wide and thin, it is inconvenient to hold it in the hand, you will not even ask about the controls with one hand.
    3) the volume and off keys are often pressed at the same time - they are located opposite each other, inconveniently.
    4) traffic is consumed uncontrollably by applications, turned off everything

The battery runs out quickly (in a day) when wifi is on, but my social networks (facebook, google +, vk) and mail (mail and gmail) are logged in + synchronization is on, + auto download of captured photos and videos. The way out is to use wifi not around the clock, but when needed, to have a recharge at home and at work. When taking a photo, a pinkish gradient halo appears in the center, it is noticeable in medium illumination - forgivable for a phone. There is a critical bug - if you go to the "Clock" in the evening and do not exit using the "Application Manager" - you can drain the battery overnight so that the alarm will not ring. A couple of times I almost overslept important business trips. I look into the Application Manager after the Hours and not only after them. Since the phone is used very intensively, it is necessary sometimes (once every 1-2 weeks?) To reboot.

Shoveling: 3 first thought when I saw: "God, I know how to dig potatoes in the summer." The upper left corner is not used, so it is convenient to use in an upright position, even with my microscopic palm.
    - a delay in unlocking, sometimes the screen saver slips, but personally it doesn't bother me very much.
    - The sound button is located directly opposite the lock button) when the music is playing and you unlock the lock, I often change the volume for myself, but maybe it's just my clubfoot.

the screen is wide, for a big hand. if the hand is small, it is not very convenient to reach the opposite side with your thumb
GPS is very slow to catch, sometimes it does not catch at all, even in open space

Sensor type

Digital cameras use photo sensors to take photographs. The sensor, as well as the optics, are one of the main factors in the quality of the camera in a mobile device.

CMOS BSI (backside illumination)
Sensor size

Information about the dimensions of the photosensor used in the device. Typically, cameras with a larger sensor and lower pixel density offer higher image quality despite lower resolution.

4.54 x 3.42 mm (millimeters)
0.22 in (inches)
Pixel size

The smaller pixel size of the photosensor allows more pixels per unit area to be used, thus increasing the resolution. On the other hand, a smaller pixel size can have a negative impact on image quality at high ISO sensitivity levels.

1.391 μm (micrometers)
0.001391 mm (millimeters)
Crop factor

The crop factor is the ratio between the size of a full-frame sensor (36 x 24 mm, equivalent to a frame of standard 35 mm film) and the size of the device's photo sensor. The number shown is the ratio of the diagonals of a full-frame sensor (43.3mm) to that of a specific device.

7.61
ISO (light sensitivity)

ISO values determine the level of light sensitivity of the photosensor. A lower value means weaker light sensitivity, and vice versa - a higher value means a higher light sensitivity, i.e. better ability of the sensor to work in low light conditions.

100 - 800
Diaphragm

Aperture (f-number) is the size of the aperture opening that controls the amount of light reaching the photosensor. A lower f-number means a larger aperture opening.

f / 2.6
Focal length

Focal length is the distance in millimeters from the photosensor to the optical center of the lens. Equivalent focal lengths are also indicated, providing the same field of view with a full frame camera.

3.97 mm (millimeters)
30.22 mm (millimeters) * (35 mm / full frame)
Flash type

The most common types of flashes in mobile cameras are LED and Xenon flashes. LED-flashes give softer light and, unlike brighter xenon ones, are also used for video filming.
