Do-it-yourself tablet mount for the car. Ways to install a tablet holder in a car Do-it-yourself tablet holder in a car

We've already taken it apart. And now consider several ways to mount it in a car. Basically, here are the installation methods yourself with your own hands, but first we will consider using a special holder.

Option 1: Mounting with a holder (store-bought)

With this holder, you can easily and quickly fix the tablet with your own hands. The kit includes a suction cup on the glass and adjustable holding paws. You can fix it on the glass, or you can on the dashboard.

Do you want glass? Using double-sided tape and self-tapping screws, you can firmly and securely fix the holder to the panel.

Option 2. Homemade wire mount

Such a mount is very simple to make from a piece of stainless steel wire or knitting needles. The tablet must be in a "book" case.

First you need to drill two holes in the panel with a diameter slightly larger than the thickness of the wire so that it goes in tightly. Next, the frame is bent. The cover of the book opens and simply hangs on this frame.

Option 3. Using a U-profile

This is semi-professional work. From the U-shaped profile, a shelf is actually made in which the tablet stands. An arc with screws is bent from a thick strip of duralumin, which will serve to fasten it to the panel.

Option 4. The cheapest

Everything is simple here. Needs a lanyard. these are often used in clothing. And such a lace is threaded through a cover-book. Everything. Oh yes, the panel must be firmly fixed, for example, a phone holder. It will serve as a hook on which the tablet will hang.

The tablet in the car is usually given two main roles: a driver assistant and an entertainment center for passengers. In the first case, it serves as a navigator, a news reader, and some manage to work a little in traffic jams or surf the Internet. In this case, the tablet is placed next to the driver - on the windshield or above the central panel. True, when placed on the windshield, it blocks part of the view and collects the views of neighbors downstream from everywhere. And when it is above the center console, it usually blocks access to the car's multimedia system, but does not interfere with the view, and you don't have to reach so far for it. There is another method of fastening, which is devoid of all the above disadvantages, and which we will also talk about.

As for the role of the multimedia center for passengers, this topic is even more relevant. Those who have children and who have to be on the road with them for a long time will definitely approve of it. It will also appeal to ordinary travelers who are forced to spend several hours in a car.

In this review, we tried on six different types of car mounts and tablet holders, having purchased four sets from different manufacturers in Moscow online stores. With their help, we will try to evaluate the convenience and practicality of a particular method of attachment. In the role of a "tablet carrier" we will have a small urban SUV. The tablets that will assist us are already well known to our readers: these are the 8-inch Prestigio Multipad 4 Ultimate 8.0 3G (209×155×9 mm, 447 g) and the 9-inch Pipo Max-7 Pro 3G (218×161×9 mm, 485 g). Actually, there is almost no difference between them in terms of dimensions and weight, and we will use Prestigio more often (especially for photography), because it is white and can be seen better against the black interior of the car.

So, we will start the story about the holders in random order, and for dessert we will leave the most “fancy” solution. Here is a complete list of individual models and kits:

Perhaps this is the most classic option among those selected by us. Vertex iTab 3 is not a holder, but a set of holders, which involves attaching the tablet both to the windshield and to the headrest of the front seats. If you consider such a set to be superfluous, then the iTab and iTab 2 options are at your service. In the first case, in addition to the cradle, you will find only a mounting bracket for the windshield in the box, and in the second - for the headrest. Accordingly, they will cost you less than our version of the iTab 3.

On its website, the manufacturer claims that the design of products is being developed by the Italian design bureau Alessandro Bellini. Whether it had a hand in this device, we do not know, but we can say that the holder is made very carefully and tastefully. The cradle is equipped with a special rather solid cushion covered with leatherette. Adjustment of the position of the holding tabs with soft rubberized edges is carried out by rearranging them into a set of grooves, where they hold firmly enough.

The powerful 90mm suction cup holds the whole structure very firmly. The clamping force can be controlled using the foot, which has several fixed positions. If necessary, the clamping force can be increased. The bracket has two adjustment nodes: a toothed one that adjusts the angle of inclination near the suction cup, equipped with a convenient clamping foot, and a ball joint near the cradle holder, equipped with a large fixing plastic nut. The ball adjustment mechanism has total travel angles of up to about 90 degrees (45 in each direction), which is quite enough. The design has no backlash and holds the tablet very securely.

The mounting option on the headrest is also quite simple and reliable. The bracket is equipped with plastic hooks, which have nut handles on the back side of the bar, providing a tight clamp. The bracket has two articulated gear mechanisms that can adjust the position of the tablet in only two planes, i.e. adjust its height relative to the passenger and the distance from the seat back.

The swivel mechanisms also share a common clamping handle. The fastening is secure. There are no loopholes. The only drawback of this design is that it moves the tablet away from the back of the seat by at least 10 centimeters, which may not be very convenient in a cramped car interior or when using child seats. However, in our case, we did not experience any inconvenience, but at the same time, the length of the bracket was always set close to the minimum (in the photo above, it is in the position of almost maximum distance from the seat back).

But this whole set has one drawback - a very tight mechanism for attaching the cradle to the brackets. Putting on the cradle is easy, but removing it later to rearrange it to another bracket requires a fair amount of effort.

Advantages

  • Reliable fastening, no backlash
  • Sufficient adjustment ranges both on the windshield and on the headrest
  • Nice look and build quality

Flaws

  • Very tight mechanism for attaching the cradle to the brackets

A very original and unexpected solution for passengers in the back row! The design principle is simple: a small telescopic rod with a tablet holder is fixed between the two front seat headrests, after which the two rear riders can enjoy watching videos or surfing the Web together. The holder can move along the bar, so that any of the rear passengers can move the tablet closer to themselves if necessary.

Characteristic table

The bar is made of aluminum alloy. The length of the two telescopic sections of the rod and the position of the cradle holder are fixed with clips, like telescopic legs for photography tripods. The bar itself has two deep grooves, as a result, the whole structure has no backlash, nothing scrolls, everything is fixed on it securely and neatly. The holder for the cradle has a ball joint clamped with a nut. The range of positions it sets is not very large (in any case, the rod will interfere) - it will allow you to rotate the cradle in two planes by about 15 degrees in each direction.

The cradle has a relatively soft center pad and two levers on the back for adjusting the position of the upper and lower legs, which also have rubber grips for holding the tablet.

Advantages

  • original design
  • High quality and reliable performance

Flaws

  • Not found

Perhaps the most practical solution if the user of the tablet is a person sitting behind the wheel. The advantage is that, thanks to the long and flexible bracket, the tablet can be placed on top of the center console without restricting visibility and not particularly attracting the curious looks of downstream neighbors. And the main drawback is that everything that will be under the tablet will be hard to reach.

Characteristic table

*depends on the used nozzle on the bracket

A relatively small suction cup securely attaches the bracket to the windshield. The "leg" of the bracket is rigid, but it will not be difficult to give it the necessary shape. The cradle is very massive. The side grips are spring-loaded and controlled by a lever in its lower left side. There are two small rubber feet on the back of the cradle, and they are there for a reason. The fact is that the rigidity of the structure is definitely not enough to ensure that the cradle with the tablet does not hang out not only while driving, but also from simply touching the screen. Therefore, he needs at least one more point of support. In our case, we positioned the structure so that the base of the cradle rested on the edge of the torpedo. In this position, he is no longer afraid of any chatter, but other shortcomings of such an arrangement have appeared.

The main one is that the tablet is forced to be located almost parallel to the plane of the center console. As a result, both the driver and the passenger look at the tablet screen from a large angle - with all the ensuing consequences. In addition, this place is usually well lit, since it is located near the windshield.

Of course, it would be more correct to rest the cradle not on the edge of the torpedo, but on the very rubber legs that are located below. But in our case, it was somewhat difficult to do this because of the head unit screen and its control buttons.

However, if the first type of attaching the cradle to the bracket for some reason did not suit you, the kit includes a second attachment that holds the cradle not by the top, but by the center. The nozzle is equipped with a ball joint that allows you to rotate it at small angles.

In addition to tablets, according to the manufacturer, this holder is also suitable for netbooks. We checked this statement on an old Acer Aspire One (screen - 10 inches, weight - 1 kg) and we can confirm it: when opened, the netbook is securely fixed in the cradle, and it is quite possible to use it. One "but": all the side connectors of the netbook will be blocked by the side holders.

Advantages

  • Robust design
  • Thoughtful design
  • Ability to work with netbooks

Flaws

  • For reliable fastening of the cradle, you need to look for an additional point of support on the dashboard or the center console of the car

So we got to the promised dessert. He can immediately be awarded the title of the most advanced solution for placing a tablet in a car.

Look at the official photo on the box! In an Aston Martin with a beige leather interior, the holder looks very harmonious and not at all alien.

In the box you will find a complete set of two holders. The first is a three-knee bar that is attached to the front passenger seat sled with the same bolt with which the seat itself is bolted to the body. And the second holder is designed to be attached to the headrest of the front seat.

Characteristic table

So, with the installation of the main holder with the bar, there was only one difficulty: the tip of the fork, which is attached to the front seat sled, had to be turned 180 degrees by loosening the mounting bolt. If this is not done, it would not be possible to place the entire structure next to the central tunnel in the car due to the dimensions of the gear hinge.

After that, the installation went almost like clockwork. The two pole arms, as well as the cradle locking tip, can be rotated. It is also not difficult to control the angles of inclination of the gear hinges, which are clamped with screws. As a result, the bar can be given almost any desired shape. But here, too, a slight disappointment awaited us: installing the bar as in AstonMartin did not work out due to the fact that the central tunnel in the experimental car begins to expand towards the engine compartment (oh, they took the wrong car for the test), and the lower hinge allows you to adjust the position of the bar only in one plane. In other words, the first knee of the bar cannot be lowered down - it rests against the expanding central tunnel.

As a result, we had to assemble just such a “snake”, which would have pretty much hampered the front passenger.

Further more. After fixing the cradle and placing the tablet on it, it became clear that each touch of the tablet with your finger makes it oscillate with an amplitude of 1-3 centimeters. In other words, the design turned out to be too shaky. An attempt to tighten firmly all the nodal connections did not give any effect, but after it the main culprit became visible - this is a fork that is attached to the sled. And if the bar is fixed securely and firmly enough, then the fork, made of soft metal, bends for nothing, and it is she who is the source of vibrations of the entire structure. After dismantling, our version of soft metal was fully confirmed: the fork noticeably bent from tightening the mounting bolt. Yes. A truly Chinese approach (may the Chinese, for whom he has the warmest feelings, forgive the author).

Update as of February 4, 2014: as the forum members rightly noted, in our case, the fork had to be driven into the space between the floor and the skid. This would significantly increase the rigidity of the structure, but you still cannot do without a second point of support for the rod. In other words, it was desirable to rest the bar, for example, in a dashboard.
Another important addition concerns the bar itself. It is very likely that the center knee can be removed, thereby reducing the space occupied by the bar and reducing the leverage on the fork.
Alas, at the moment we cannot check these two versions, but they may be useful to those who still decide to buy this holder.

But the second holder, which is attached to the headrest, we liked more. Firstly, there are no screws here, and the bar with the cradle holder is fastened with special fasteners. Secondly, the tablet installed in the cradle is close to the back of the seat, which is a plus in a small car interior. However, there is also a drawback here: the swivel lock screw has become difficult to access, because almost “drowned” between the seatback and the headrest. But in general, the solution seemed to us quite practical.

Advantages

  • original idea
  • Robust and thoughtful boom design
  • Very presentable appearance
  • Convenient headrest attachment

Flaws

  • Very soft metal of the yoke attachment to the sled, which makes the whole structure extremely shaky
  • Hard-to-reach clamp at the ball joint of attachment to the headrest

General impressions

Having become acquainted with six different variants of tablet mounts, we can definitely say that we have no particular claims only to those designed for rear passengers. Probably, this is also due to the fact that the tablet looks much more appropriate there. No, we don’t mind at all if the driver has a large map or convenient Internet access at hand, but the interior design of modern cars somehow opposes this very much, therefore third-party solutions also have their pros and cons.

We will not definitely recommend anything for the driver - let everyone look at our description of this or that holder and draw their own conclusions. But we advise you to treat the Daystar DK-1 with caution - at least until the manufacturer replaces the “plasticine” fork that attaches the bar to the front seat skid.

A tablet is a device that is useful not only for an ordinary user, but also for a car owner. With it, a car enthusiast can connect to the Internet, read the news, find out the weather forecast, deal with navigation, assess the condition of the car, etc. There is only one problem with tablets: not every car has a place to mount them. We will talk about how to make a mount for a tablet on your own in this article.

Where is the tablet attached?

  • The first option: the device is mounted on the dashboard, to the right of the steering wheel (or to the left if the steering wheel in the car is located on the right). There are a lot of ways to mount the tablet in this place, some of them will be discussed below. Many car enthusiasts prefer to take the path of least resistance and simply buy a tablet holder from the store. The problem is that it is not always possible to find holders for a specific tablet model and a specific car brand in a store. That is why car owners often have to make holders on their own.
  • A second option is also possible: the tablet is mounted in the headrest of one of the front seats. It is clear that in this case it will be used mainly by passengers, and not by the driver. In this article we will talk about mounting the "driver's" tablets.

What to remember

  • When installing the holder (especially if it is installed on the dashboard on the bracket), you must not forget about safety. The bracket should not be too long, the tablet should not be too close to the steering wheel, or at the same level with it, because this way the driver will certainly touch it when he reaches for the gear lever again. In the event of an emergency, this seemingly insignificant moment may well become the cause of an accident.
  • A tablet embedded in the front seat headrest may injure the rear passenger. If this person is not fastened, then in the event of sudden braking or impact, he will be thrown forward, facing directly onto the head restraint. If a tablet is in the headrest, then its fragments will cause cuts to the passenger (this point is especially relevant for tablets whose display is covered with glass with a so-called oleophobic coating, and not plastic).

It should be noted right away that it makes sense to use this method of fastening only in field conditions, when the car owner urgently needs to install the tablet on the panel, and there is nothing at hand except a roll of electrical tape.

Sequencing

It's simple: the lid of the glasses storage compartment is opened (in the SKODA Octavia, when it is open, it stands at an angle of 45 degrees, so it can be used as a stand), the tablet is installed in front of the lid and glued to it with a piece of electrical tape.

There are many ways to mount tablets in a car. It is simply impossible to list them all within the framework of one article, since they depend on the brand of the machine and on the size of the tablet. However, the most popular methods come down to either using bent metal profiles or embedding the gadget directly into the dashboard. All that is required of the car owner in this situation is to be smart.

Do-it-yourself tablet holder - logbook Hyundai Accent Vegetable on the machine in 2007 on DRIVE2

All the best! For the new year, I got a nine-inch tablet for a symbolic price, with a slight degree of shabbyness. In order to hide this slight shabbiness, to give individuality, and most importantly, to do it from hell))), the tablet was stuck by me:

this is how I got it (lego sticker - the beginning of stickerbombing)

This is how he became. And what? Pretty!)))

I fished out pictures for stickers from the Internet, printed them out on 2 sheets of A4 self-adhesive, cut and glued each one separately. Someone will say bullshit, but I'm ndraizzo))) Anyway! The reason for the purchase of this tablet was, bored in a child seat in the back seat of a car, a little lover of cartoons) Hence the question arose: how to fix the tablet? Yes, yes, I know that there are ready-made mounts for sale, but 1) the toad is strangling, 2) the cockroaches are raging in the head 3) and the hands, bitch, are overcome))))

Decided to do it myself! Long thought of what to do. There were many different ideas, but somehow it was not the same. And then one fine winter day I came across a piece of Plexiglas. And rushed!

Sculpted by tradition at night)) at work on the night shift.

I cut out a sketch from paper, tried everything on the tablet

Sawing a workpiece from plexiglass

Sawing with a simple hacksaw for metal. To make the cut even, lubricate the place of sawing with oil.

from this it turns out an even washed down

Then I processed the edges with sandpaper so that everything is smooth) Then we invent a stray, I called it ORGSTEKLOGIB)))

otonochie!))

If anyone does not understand. This is a nichrome wire stretched between two nails, through which we pass an electric current. When heated, the wire stretches and sags; for this, a load (some kind of heavy iron rubbish) is suspended from one end. This design is described in detail on the Internet, there are many videos and other things. A laboratory transformer was used as a power source.

Power Options

as you can see, the voltage and current are not large, at home you can use the power supply from the computer. (I tried it myself - channel)

The process of bending to shoot was hollow))) so the current result

bent nah

Not without jambs, but I really liked it))) Bubbles appear at the place of the bend when heated, to avoid this, the plexiglass is dried at a certain temperature. But I have nowhere to dry, so I have bubbles)

I dug a couple of holes under the headrest guides

from so ota

With tablet

The tablet sits tightly, the holder itself is also quite firmly attached, it does not shake on bumps. Checked in combat conditions - everything is OK! In general, the toad and cockroaches have temporarily calmed down, the little one is happy watching cartoons, but the hand seems to be moving into a chronic stage))) I'm already thinking about a new idea. See you!

Making a removable mount for a tablet, navigator in a car

The market for electronic devices for the car is huge (monitors, TVs, tablets, navigators, etc.), but not everyone decides to leave the purchased device in the car. In this article I will tell you how to make a holder (stand) for a 7-inch tablet computer. Also, this universal mount can be used for a navigator, monitor, etc. A tablet is a very useful thing, and I would very much like to use it comfortably in your car! What is very easy to do with the help of improvised do-it-yourself tools and for this you will need:

  1. Tablet;
  2. Stainless steel (stainless steel);
  3. Welding machine;
  4. pliers;
  5. Metal shears or grinder.
This homemade tablet holder has a number of advantages:
  1. Convenient to use;
  2. Ease of manufacture;
  3. Does not take up much space in the cabin;
  4. Everything is made by hand, and everything that is made by hand is always nice to see in your car.
I think there are no cons, because it can be removed at any time, for example, when you need to turn on the stove. But this can also be adjusted. Where to begin? First you need to find some stainless steel.

Next, measure the strips we need for the tablet stand, I recommend: 2 vertical ones 17 cm long and 1 cm wide, and one horizontal 25 cm long and 1 cm wide. We cut and bend the edges of the strips with pliers, as it will be convenient for you to use.

You bend the upper part of the strips a little more than the lower one, they are needed to mount the holder in the VAZ 2110 deflector. The lower one is directly for holding the tablet itself. The horizontal strip is attached like this (it plays the role of holding the tablet from falling to the sides, thus it is securely fixed and cannot fall out of the stand in any way). I made additional inserts for ease of viewing (they are not necessary, but increase the angle of the screen) . For beauty, the holder can be pasted over with a cloth, this is everyone's business. As a result, a homemade tablet mount is installed like this: By the way, a tablet is not the only way to computerize a car (computers in a car). The baffle is not the only place where you can place the monitor (other options for the monitor location), and the tablet mount can be made not removable, but built into the baffle.

Bogdan Maslov

Many motorists have to constantly spend a lot of time traveling to unfamiliar places. Previously, to arrive at the required settlement / city, one had to use a paper map, road signs, or ask local residents for directions. Now, when various navigators have been actively sold on the domestic market over the past seven years, such a need is practically eliminated.

The problem is that there is no holder for the navigator in the standard equipment of the vehicle. Naturally, it can be easily purchased on the market. A wide variety of choices allows you to choose the best option. On the other hand, you can make such an accessory yourself. The next question arises - is it worth it at all? What is better - to purchase a finished product or show imagination and create a latch with your own hands?

In the production process of modern models, as a rule, impact-resistant plastic with an increased level of strength is used. It is based on a special platform into which the device itself is installed, after which it is mounted to a certain type of surface.

The most popular navigator mounts have a suction cup for the windshield. The main advantage is that the driver has the opportunity to independently choose the most optimal place for installation, making it so that he always sees the necessary information about the route of the trip and is not distracted from the situation on the road. The only negative is that cheap Chinese products are not always able to hold the device to the windshield with high quality. In some cases, suction cup marks may remain on the surface. Although it will not be difficult to wash them, we cannot ignore this drawback.

An alternative option is a mount installed in the car on the ventilation grille. The constructive difference lies in the absence of a suction cup - here it is actually not needed. Instead, there is a holder with a spring and a long bolt. After pushing the fixing part to the ventilation grille, it is necessary to tighten the bolt. Brand manufacturers install a comfortable “twist”, eliminating the need to waste time using a screwdriver.

The only drawback is that if installed incorrectly, the air supply to the vehicle interior will be disrupted.

Accordingly, when choosing such a device in the car, do not forget to make sure that the case will allow warm / cool air to enter the serviced area without any problems.

How to flash a navigator, find out.

How to make a mount for a navigator with your own hands?

Below we will offer you several ways to create a mount for the navigator with your own hands.

The first method is Velcro. The most affordable way from a financial point of view. It is enough to purchase double-sided tape and attach one side to the navigator, and the other to the surface of the dashboard. Before sticking, it is necessary to wipe both the tidy itself and the gadget so that no traces remain on the surface.

The second method is stationery clips. We get the so-called "binder-clip", it is also a paper clip. Get rid of the staples, then wrap the product with a thick thread. Place it where you want it and secure it with a rubber band. After that, we put the resulting design in our air duct, located on the driver's side.

Method three - wire. Those who wish to sacrifice the integrity of the tidy can use the wire. The holder is designed for navigators that have their own case. It is enough to choose a stainless steel wire on the market. After that, we drill two holes in the torpedo and install both ends of the wire there, previously stretched through the cover. After that, we hang the device to the resulting structure. The advantage is that only wire, a standard case and a drill are required to complete the job. The downside is that holes will remain on the torpedo.

The fourth method is a metal holder. This task is only for those who like to process metal. Find a diagram on the Internet (fortunately, there are a lot of them), and then cut out the details for the navigator. Aluminum or easy bending steel can be used as starting material. Having bent the holders to the dimensions of the navigator body, assemble all the parts into a single whole, and then paint the surface. Place a soft material into the interior space - for example, rubber inserts.

conclusions

So which way is best for the car owner? If you are aiming to save extra money, opt for creating a homemade product with your own hands. So you can develop a mount by spending a few tens of rubles. In the absence of the opportunity to work on your own, or if you do not want to spend time / effort fussing with materials, it is best to purchase a ready-made holder. Just do not forget to first decide where exactly it will be fixed in the car - on the dashboard, windshield or air duct.

We will not tell you how to connect a tablet to a car, but we will show several ways to mount this gadget in a car. All fasteners, except for the first, you can make yourself from certain materials that everyone can find.

Mounting the tablet with a ready-made holder

Using a ready-made, store-bought holder, you can quickly and easily fix the tablet yourself. The kit includes a glass suction cup and adjustable feet. You can attach it to the dashboard or windshield. Velcro is held on the glass, and to install the mount on the panel, you need to use double-sided tape or self-tapping screws.

Homemade wire mount

You can make this mounting option from a piece of stainless wire or knitting needles. At the same time, the tablet must be enclosed in a case of the "book" type.

First, in the panel, you need to drill a couple of holes with a diameter slightly larger than the thickness of the wire so that it fits snugly into them. After that, you need to bend the frame, and open the cover-book and hang it on the frame.

U profile

The method of fastening with a U-profile can be considered a semi-professional job. From the profile you need to make a kind of shelf on which the tablet rests. From a thick duralumin strip, bend an arc with screws that will be required to secure it to the panel.

Cheap option

Everything is elementary here: you will need a lace with a lock, which is used in clothes. This lace is threaded through the cover-book. At the same time, it is necessary to fix the phone holder on the panel, which will act as a hook on which the tablet hangs.

Velcro

Velcro must be attached to the back side of the tablet using double-sided tape, and its second part must be fixed on the panel in the required place.

How to choose a tablet

So, we figured out how to mount the tablet in the car, and now we will tell you how to choose this gadget:

  1. The tablet should not have any physical buttons other than the power button. We are talking about mechanical and touch buttons, that is, the "back", "menu" and "home" buttons should be software-based if possible, that is, they should appear only at boot.
  2. If you want to install the tablet in the car, its diagonal should be no more than 7 inches. In the car, the place for the radio or GPS is 2DIN, and this is about 7 inches.
  3. It is better to choose a tablet with built-in GPS and 3G-module. Everything is clear with the navigator, and 3G is required to connect to the Internet, which is never superfluous. It also helps weak GPS transmit and receive data using A-GPS technology. It's good if instead of a 3G module you buy a portable 3G WiFi router and distribute the Internet to your phone and tablet. That is, you can take the device home and use it in the apartment.
