Do-it-yourself smartphone stand on the dash of a car or how to make a car holder for a phone in a car. Do-it-yourself tablet mount in the car DIY mount for the tablet in the car

We've already taken it apart. And now consider several ways to mount it in a car. Basically, here are the installation methods yourself with your own hands, but first we will consider using a special holder.

Option 1: Mounting with a holder (store-bought)

With this holder, you can easily and quickly fix the tablet with your own hands. The kit includes a suction cup on the glass and adjustable holding paws. You can fix it on the glass, or you can on the dashboard.

Do you want glass? Using double-sided tape and self-tapping screws, you can firmly and securely fix the holder to the panel.

Option 2. Homemade wire mount

Such a mount is very simple to make from a piece of stainless steel wire or knitting needles. The tablet must be in a "book" case.

First you need to drill two holes in the panel with a diameter slightly larger than the thickness of the wire so that it goes in tightly. Next, the frame is bent. The cover of the book opens and simply hangs on this frame.

Option 3. Using a U-profile

This is semi-professional work. From the U-shaped profile, a shelf is actually made in which the tablet stands. An arc with screws is bent from a thick strip of duralumin, which will serve to fasten it to the panel.

Option 4. The cheapest

Everything is simple here. Needs a lanyard. these are often used in clothing. And such a lace is threaded through a cover-book. Everything. Oh yes, the panel must be firmly fixed, for example, a phone holder. It will serve as a hook on which the tablet will hang.

In my travels, I use my smartphone as a navigator. I've had several factory car phone holders and there's always something wrong with them. Over time, they become loose, or it becomes problematic to install a phone in them.

The last car phone holder I bought was a sticky silicone mat with slots that you could use to mount your smartphone while standing on your side. But my friend could not install her smartphone into it in a leather book case, she had to remove the case. I decided to bring to life one old idea. Life hackers must act, let the rest whine!

You will need:

  • piece of wood, approximately 300x100x8 mm (I had a piece of black fiberboard)
  • mini loop
  • spring
  • some screws, glue
  • engraver with attachments or manual router
  • mounting platform (I used the notorious silicone mat)

Reminder: This holder mounts on the rough surface of the dashboard, and if you want to place your phone on the windshield, this is definitely not your option.

I will show the simplest version of assembling a phone stand for a car. In the end, I used sealant after I assembled the holder, but this is because I remembered about it too late.

Step 1: Cut out the details

From a piece of fiberboard, I sawed three parts of the following sizes:

  • Top cover 150x90x8 mm
  • Bottom cover 130x90x8mm
  • Roller 9x90x8 mm

The roller must be glued to the top cover at a distance of 5 mm from the edge, this indent will give you the opportunity to use the holder with one hand. When the glue dries, secure the roller with two additional small grub screws. This part will protect the top edge of your smartphone.

Step 2: Making cuts

Using a linear milling compass or milling bit (or a manual router), make a slot in the bottom cover, a little wider than the smartphone in the case. The smartphone should not sit tightly in the slot, I will return to this point later. The cutout will protect the bottom edge of your smartphone.

If the piece of wood you're making your car phone holder from is too thin, you can glue two bolsters on the bottom cover to create a slot for your phone.

Make a cutout for the spring on the top cover, on the side with the roller. The cutout should not be covered by the loop and should be slightly longer than the spring. The picture shows that this cutout turned out to be very sloppy. My engraver seems to live his own life, moving wherever he pleases.

When you're done with the slit and notch, go over the sandpaper to your satisfaction and remove the dust.

Step 3: Apply sealant

Apply painter's tape around the areas where you will be applying the sealant. Once you have applied the sealant, soak your finger in soapy water and use it to smooth the surface of the sealant. Pay special attention to the edges so that there are no sticking pieces of sealant.

When finished applying the sealant, carefully remove the tape so that the edges of the sealant are even, leave the parts to dry overnight.

Step 4: Attaching the metal parts and assembling the structure

Attach the loop very carefully. If it is tilted slightly, the lids will not be parallel to each other when opened. Depending on the material you have chosen for the lids, the hinge and spring can be screwed directly onto the wood. I didn't have the right size screws so I used bolts and nuts. I made recesses for the nuts, so that they almost do not stand out above the surface of the covers.

First we fix the mini loop on one of the covers, then we fix the spring on both covers. After that, we attach the loop to the second cover. This makes it much easier to secure the loop correctly.

Step 5: Decorate the Holder

I had an unnecessary piece of skin, with the help of percussive letter marks (first wetting the skin) I made an inscription. The options to emphasize the uniqueness of your holder are actually endless.

My Skoda Yeti has a wonderful flat area on the dash. Our holder should be mounted on a practically flat surface. If the surface of your dashboard is not flat, you will need to secure the holder to something else or level the surface somehow. I already mentioned that I had a sticky silicone mat. With scissors, I cut off all the protrusions from it that hold the smartphone in an upright position until I got just a smooth silicone mat. You can buy these on eBay or most hardware stores. I attached it to the smartphone holder with a few paper clips.

In general, you can simply drill a hole in the dashboard and secure the holder with a screw.
Well, you have made a universal smartphone holder that fits almost all smartphone models on the market. It can be used for smartphones without a case, with a case, or with a flip case. It is easy to use with one hand, and when the holder is not needed, it almost does not rise above the dashboard.

If the evolution of smartphone displays goes in the direction of increasing, you can make the “jaws” of the holder, so that such a holder can also be used with tablets. Enjoy.

If you think that you can only buy a case or a convenient stand for your device, then you will be glad that all these accessories can be made for your tablet with your own hands with maximum benefit for yourself and useful experience for the future. And you will be surprised how useful things can be that you have long since gotten rid of because of uselessness.

Convenient stand

Only some tablet computers have their own stand, for the rest of the devices you have to buy expensive cases that get bored or break over time. Therefore, now in a few minutes you will learn how to make a wide variety of coasters from inexpensive and simple materials.

Most likely, each user cut out various figures from cardboard in childhood, and now it is time to remember the old days again and take up stationery, and build a convenient stand for the tablet with your own hands.

Stand drawing

The image above shows a schematic drawing that you can change for a specific device - this is a kind of template, but no one forbade fantasizing.

Be sure to take a thick cardboard, it is best suited from the packaging boxes of household appliances, well, unless of course it's a pity.

The result of the work

Now we transfer the drawing to cardboard and carefully cut it out, fold it in half, as shown in the image, and a convenient stand for the device is ready. Its service life is practically unlimited, every day you can do something new, the main thing is that there is more source material in stock.

coffee glass

Continuing the theme of working with office supplies, with the help of an empty glass and scissors, an original stand can come out, and it is done in a matter of minutes.

Notch pattern

Such an unusual design will appeal to those users who like to spend a lot of time in coffee houses: they made it, used it and threw it away, and the next day you can make a new one.

The result of the work

Please note that depending on the angle of the notches, you can change the position of the device in space, as you wish. You can independently come up with a variety of designs and share them with friends, and someone will definitely appreciate it.

Application of boxes

And completing a series of cardboard crafts, the laziest users can make a practical stand out of any small box.

A small instruction

Moreover, you can use any boxes, most likely many owners of touchscreen gadgets have left small containers from under chargers, from cartridges, shoes, boxes from under photo or video equipment, and so on. The main thing is to have a good imagination, and, of course, desire.

The most unusual coasters

Anyone can cut out cardboard, but coming up with something really original and unique is already a much more difficult task, so a little lower you can get acquainted with the most extravagant designs for a tablet; making the same ones with your own hands is not only easy, but also entertaining. A variety of improvised means will come to the rescue.

metal stand

Most likely, in every corner of the house you can find an old and good metal hanger, which, with the help of skillful hands and brute force, can be turned into a convenient tablet stand. In appearance, of course, such a device is not very good, but you are not doing it for show, but for home use and when there is nothing else at hand, even a very wonderful idea.

Hanger second life

You need to be very careful with sharp ends so as not to inadvertently damage the case, or even worse than the tablet computer screen, it is recommended to use pliers for bending. If you are still afraid, you can, as an option, stick pieces of foam rubber and then nothing threatens your tablet.

Plastic hangers can also be used, but when bending, you will have to heat up the bends, because the product is very easy to break.

Everything will come in handy

If you feel sorry for ruining the hanger, and a piece of hard wire is lying around somewhere in the household, then using the same pliers and an elastic band, you can make a beautiful and aesthetic stand that will be much more attractive than the previous one.

Pencils and pens

At school, many took pens and pencils from their neighbors in the desk in order to build some kind of unusual structure, and now imagine what can be done by adding an ordinary rubber band to this structure.

original design

That's right, you can make a very interesting and unusual stand for all occasions. Pay attention to the image, we make a small tetrahedron from improvised stationery, which we tie in knots with rubber bands and as a result we get an excellent desktop fixture. Every day you can change the colors and shapes of pencils, add pens and rulers to the design, or something else.

Children's Lego

If you have children, then you most likely understand and have already felt for yourself more than once how it is for the tenth or hundredth time in a row to step on small parts from under a Lego toy. And we have already thought many times where they can be thrown or hidden, but they could never imagine that these small details can be used in a different way, see below.

The variety of Lego pieces is so great that you can bring to life the most bizarre and unusual shapes for coasters: from the simplest, as in the image above, to full-fledged coasters in the form of a toy part case. A minimum of costs, a maximum of useful pastime with a child and the development of motor skills of the hands are only pluses.

For the laziest

You can use an old lamp as a stand and holder, the main thing is to firmly and securely fix the tablet so that it does not accidentally fall. For fastening, it is best to use an elastic band or, in extreme cases, strips of some kind of fabric.

old lamp

Another rather extravagant element of supporting the tablet in a vertical position is a plunger, look at the image and be surprised at what you see.

As you can see, the imagination of people is practically unlimited: very convenient and useful devices can be made from the simplest things.

And our hit parade is completed by the familiar book stands, which will be in the "armament" of schoolchildren for a long time.

Another interesting way

Not a single trip on an unfamiliar road can do without a navigator, which must be securely fastened with a holder in a conspicuous place in the car. The mount must be chosen taking into account that while driving it is convenient for the driver to follow both the route and the road. Everyone chooses the holder that is most convenient in a particular car.

Many have probably seen only a few varieties of mounts for the navigator. In fact, there are many places in the car where one could install this indispensable device. And there are no less varieties of holders for navigators.

with suction cup

Suction cup holders have always been popular, and remain the most common way to mount navigators in a car. They are small and comfortable. You just need to attach the suction cup in the middle of the windshield and insert the navigator into the holder. This location of the navigator does not distract the driver from the road and at the same time gives him an excellent overview of the route.

At any time, this mount can be removed from the glass. If the suction cup was made of high-quality rubber, then no traces will remain. If the rubber was low-grade, then small marks will remain. Many of them are easily washed with soapy water.

The price of such holders varies from 400 to 800 rubles. The cost depends on the material of the body, as well as the size of the suction cup.

There are holders that are attached to the steering wheel. The navigator screen is located inside the steering wheel, as it were. Such mounts should only be used if the path is laid along a straight road, without sharp turns. It is necessary that the holder is always on top. Such mounts cost in the range of 150 - 300 rubles.

In addition to the navigator, you can also install your phone in this holder.

Important! Do not save on the materials from which the stand is made. If the mount is made of low-quality rubber, then at high temperatures it can simply “float” and begin to thin out an unpleasant odor.

Such fasteners can be made with your own hands. On the video you can see exactly how to make it.

Universal magnetic mount on the ventilation grille

Convenient and simple magnetic mount is suitable for a navigator of any size. This holder consists of:

  • magnet;
  • fastenings;
  • the thinnest metal plate;
  • plastic insert;
  • silicone insert.

The plastic insert gives the design reliability, and the silicone one is necessary to protect the magnets.

This holder is installed in just two steps:

  1. First, a thin metal plate is fixed on the back of the navigator or on a case.
  2. Then the magnet is mounted in the duct.

Thanks to the universal mount, the magnet can be installed in any car. It remains only to bring the navigator to the magnet, and they will instantly connect. The price of such a device is 600-800 rubles.

An example of a simple and inexpensive holder for a navigator is an anti-slip mat with bumpers. It is quite multifunctional. In addition to serving as a stand for a navigator or phone, it can also be used as a container for any little things. For example, keys or money.

The weight of such rugs is about 100 g. They are made of rubber or silicone. Both materials are quite easy to use. In addition, unlike plastic, even if struck, nothing will happen to these materials. No cracks or damage. Also, such a rug can partially protect the screen of the device upon impact.

The price of such a rug is small, about 300 - 500 rubles.

Mount for navigator on torpedo

The torpedo is a great place to install a navigator. The holder is not an eyesore. At any time, you can look at the route, while not losing control of the road. Many choose such a holder because they are tired of the suction cups on the glass, and purchase a mat with a special place for the suction cup in the center. The mat itself is anti-slip and perfectly attached to the torpedo. The holder for the navigator with a suction cup is attached directly to the center of the mat.

Among the advantages of such a holder is depreciation, due to which the navigator does not shake from side to side on small pits. Holds well even on uneven surfaces.

This mount is quite expensive and costs in the range of 800 - 1000 rubles.

How to make a holder for a navigator with your own hands?

Sometimes the mount that is on sale is not suitable for a particular navigator. In this case, you can do it yourself.

For reference! You can make a holder from metal and wood, or from little things that are always at hand.

If you have an unnecessary old flip case on hand, you should not throw it away. It will make an excellent holder for the navigator. In addition to the case, you will need one simple office paper clip and superglue:

  1. The first step is to cut off the front of the cover.
  2. Then you need to take the second part and glue a clip to it from behind.
  3. Metal parts must be glued, and the clip itself must be perpendicular to the cover.
  4. Then you just need to attach this homemade holder to the deflector and insert the navigator.

It is necessary to look at the dimensions of the case and the navigator. If they do not match, then such a mount will not be able to properly hold the device.

Metal plate holder

Due to the fact that the plate will need to be bent, it is better to take aluminum as a material. It is easily amenable to physical impact, but still quite durable. In addition to the plates, you will need screws:

  1. The plate must be cut into three strips (or initially take plates of the same length and width).
  2. One of the strips needs to be bent at the ends so that the curved edges are on the same side.
  3. The remaining two bend the same way. One edge is slightly curled.
  4. It is necessary to retreat from the opposite end by one third of the entire length of the strip and make a bend of 900. It must be turned in the opposite direction from the first edge.
  5. The second edge must be bent so that it can easily catch on the deflectors.
  6. The first strip is attached with screws perpendicular to the other two.
  7. The resulting holder is attached to the duct deflectors.

The result should be such a stand, as in the photo.

In an upright position, secured with a molded silicone block to fit snugly into the center console holder. To fix the tablet in the car with your own hands, you will need not only materials and equipment, but also minimal skills in handling power tools.

Creating a tablet mount in a car.

Materials:

  • 2 sheets of plexiglass or plexiglass 350 × 260 mm. (sold online for $5 per sheet);
  • 1 plywood to make a template the same size and thickness as ;
  • 2 plywood strips approximately 40x200mm;
  • 6 countersunk screws (or liquid nails if you prefer glue)
  • 2 packs of silicone sealant 500 g each;
  • 1 pack of corn starch (cornmeal) 500 g;
  • oil paint for color - optional;
  • copper or similar pipe so that holders can be used if necessary.

Equipment:

  • building hair dryer;
  • jigsaw (with blades for wood and plastic);
  • drill;
  • staples;
  • plastic freezer bag (large size);
  • disposable rubber gloves;
  • container and spoon for mixing silicone;
  • common carpentry tools - screwdriver, hammer, marker, etc.

Step 2: Making a tablet holder

  • on a sheet of plywood and outline it.
  • Cut out the sheet so that the template has the same dimensions as the tablet.
  • Cut out three additional strips of plywood to make a secure mount for the tablet in the car.
  • Cut the plexiglass sheet so that it protrudes approximately 30 mm. on the sides and below.
  • To make the frame convenient to use, cut off the two lower corners from the cut-out Plexiglas sheet.
  • Attach the plywood to the Plexiglas sheet with an equal protrusion on each side and top.
  • Using a heat gun, carefully heat one edge of the plexiglass until it is soft and pliable.
  • Lay your plywood template over the plexiglass and fold over the edges. Be sure to use gloves. Wait until the plexiglass has hardened.
  • Repeat this process for all sides and bottom hem.
  • Note the location of the buttons.
  • Remove the plywood layout of the tablet.
  • Cut holes for buttons.
  • Check the size with a real tablet. Mark and cut holes and power connectors.

Step 3: Making the Rack

The vertical to the car is the part that supports the frame and keeps it in the correct position in the car. The frame is attached to the top of the vertical mold and the bottom is attached to the silicone base.

  • Cut a strip of Plexiglas 350 mm long. and 50 mm wide.
  • Drill holes in the bottom to fit freely into the silicone base.
  • Heat and bend the bottom part to fix it in the base.
  • Think about what else you can use in parallel with the tablet. For example, drill a couple of holes for styluses or pens.

Step 4: Making the base

This is the most interesting part. There will be a lot of dirt, so use disposable rubber gloves.

  • Mix silicone and cornmeal in approximately a 1:1 ratio. It is very similar to kneading dough. Be patient - the process may take some time. If the mass is not homogeneous, add cornmeal until you get a flexible silicone mass.
  • When you get a nice elastic ball of dough, place it in a clean plastic freezer bag. This will protect the car.
  • Press the bottom of the vertical stand into the dough and squeeze the dough so that the mass completely surrounds the plastic holder and all the air is expelled.
  • Insert it into the cup hole in the car.
  • Adjust the position of the cup holder, and then press down on the dough until it completely fills the space inside the cup holder.
  • Leave everything in place for a few hours. Make sure the car windows are open.

Step 5: Placement and Final Position Adjustment

  • After the silicone has hardened, the plastic bag can be removed.
  • Position the frame vertically. Remember that the final adjustment will be made later.
  • Attach the frame to a vertical surface with countersunk screws or glue.
  • Use a blow dryer to thoroughly heat up the vertical installation.
  • Position the frame of the plate the way you want and hold it in that position until the mixture cools and hardens.
  • Make sure the device is not blocking any controls or sensors.
  • If it doesn't work out the way you wanted, just heat the structure and try again.

You may find that the vertical stand is too flimsy, which will obviously interfere with the full use of the tablet. Cut an extra strip of Plexiglas and glue it to the post. Ready! Your tablet holder is ready to use.

Finally, I would like to recall a few basic rules of safe driving behavior. Do not let small children use power tools without supervision. Do not use your tablet while driving a car. Do not use the tablet holder in your vehicle if it is against the law to do so.
