Testing tools and methodology

For a more clear comparison of video cards and processors, the game used as a test application was launched in resolutions of 1680x1050, 1920x1080 and 2560x1600.

The utilities FRAPS 3.5.9 Build 15586 and AutoHotkey v1.0.48.05 were used as performance measurement tools. Measured in game minimum And average FPS values. VSync was disabled during testing.

To avoid errors and minimize measurement errors, all tests were performed three to five times. When calculating the average FPS, the arithmetic mean of the results of all runs (three non-idle runs) was taken as the final result. Swarm is an action platformer developed by Hothead Games and published by Ignition Entertainment. The game will be released on Xbox 360 on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation 3 - PlayStation Network.

Plot

The game begins with a pulsating ball flying through outer space, which then lands on the surface of a destroyed planet. The ball grows into the ground and releases a tentacle, which in turn releases 50 swarmites - small, blue, bipedal creatures that always walk in a crowd. Swarmites are completely devoid of the instinct of self-preservation and their goal on a mystical and extremely dangerous planet is to collect DNA units that they must bring back to the mother ball. Swarm is an action platformer where the player controls up to 50 characters simultaneously who work together to complete a collective task. The goal of the game is to reach the end of the level with at least one survivor. At the levels there are healing bonuses that restore the number of Swarmites in the crowd to 50. There are also checkpoints at the levels that serve as a save point in case the player is unable to reach the end of the level.

For each DNA strand collected in a level, players receive points. Some threads can be collected by having several creatures in stock by ordering them to stand on top of each other. Creatures can gather in a dense group for strength and acceleration, stand on each other's shoulders to reach high-lying targets, and jump in a group to reach the desired area. All The player gives commands to a group of Swarmites, but the creatures themselves use collective consciousness - each creature has its own artificial intelligence and path-finding algorithm and interacts with other members of the group. In this way, Swarmites dynamically navigate around obstacles in the level, each with their own path.
