We restore iPhone firmware on our own. Recovery Mode - Normal

Reading time: 4 minutes

One of the most unpleasant problems that happen with smartphones from Apple is that the iPhone does not load beyond the apple.

When you try to turn on the phone, the company logo appears on the screen, but the system does not start. The error can appear on any model: iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 7.

The reasons why the iPhone is loaded beyond the "apple"

  • Making changes to the file system.
  • Incompatibility of tweaks installed from Cydia.
  • Problems with custom firmware.
  • Hardware damage to the phone.

The problem is typical for jailbroken iPhones. Usually, to fix it, it is enough to restore the device, but there are other ways.

If the iPhone does not boot, the apple is on, first of all try to restore the device to its working capacity by performing a hard reset - Hard Reset.

Press Home and Power (on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, the volume down key is used instead of Home). Hold them until the device turns on. If a hard reboot does not lead to anything, move on to another method - System Restore.

IPhone Recovery

The main disadvantage of restoring is deleting settings and content. If you recently made a backup, then the losses will be minimal, but still you cannot do without them - a working phone is more important. Since you are dealing with a software error, in order to fix it, you need to put the phone in DFU mode.

  1. Connect iPhone to PC, launch iTunes.
  2. Press Power and Home, hold for 10 seconds.
  3. Release Power for a count of 10. Continue to hold the Home button.

The screen will remain dark, but iTunes will display a notification that the device has been detected in recovery mode. Click "Repair iPhone" to start fixing the error and updating the system.

After reinstalling, iTunes will offer to return the deleted information from the backup or set up the smartphone as new. Choose the appropriate option, activate the iPhone, make sure that the boot problem is fixed, and the phone no longer hangs on the apple, but starts the operating system normally.

Removing tweaks

If you don't want to do data backup and system restore, try cleaning your phone from the latest installed tweaks or check its file system.

If the iPhone does not boot, the apple is on, the reason for this may be the incompatibility of tweaks installed from Cydia. To test your hypothesis, try starting your smartphone without tweaks. For:

  1. Turn off your iPhone.
  2. Hold down the volume up key.
  3. Turn on the device while continuing to hold the volume up key.

If the iPhone boots normally in this mode, then you should get rid of the tweaks that were installed just before the problems with booting the system. Remove the interfering component and the system will function smoothly again.

Friends, occurrences USB cable and iTunes icon on the screen of iPhones, iPads and iPods are quite common. In general, it is generally accepted that if a cord and an icon in the form of the iTunes program logo appear on the black display of one of these devices, then this means that Recovery Mode is running. But not everyone knows that cable and iTunes, in addition to Recovery Mode, can mean Recovery Loop, which is different from Recovery Mode.

In order for you to be able to make an accurate diagnosis, to determine the mode in which your iPhone (or other device) is located, displaying the USB cable and iTunes, we will write down the results of our research acquired as a result of the operation of these mobile Apple devices. And maybe our meager knowledge will help at least someone to solve their problem and restore the phone or tablet to work.

Recovery Mode - Normal

The iPhone or iPad is entered into the usual recovery mode using simple steps, the sequence of these steps is described here - "". To exit the normal Recovery Mode, we simply left the iPhone for a while, it rebooted itself and exited recovery mode. To immediately exit the recovery mode (so as not to wait), we simply force it. It turns out that from the usual recovery mode, unlike others, it is quite easy to exit with a reboot.

Recovery Loop Mode - Compliant

There are times that after a forced reboot, which is used to exit the normal recovery mode, the iPhone still continues to load a black screen, on which we see the cord and iTunes again and again. This situation means that the iPhone has entered the so-called Recovery Loop mode. A phone or tablet in this mode is very often driven by the iTunes program. Getting into the Recovery Loop can happen for various reasons, for example, as a result or when the iOS firmware is restored. A recovery loop can occur as a result of a software, hardware or household failure (for example, accidentally pulling out the cable), once we ourselves, when we tried to downgrade the iOS firmware from 7 to 6.

Why did we add the word “Obedient” in the subheading? Yes, because you can still get out of the obedient recovery loop and return the iPhone to a working state without losing information, for this we used, some users with TinyUmbrella had difficulties, and we found a more convenient way to exit Recovery Loop using the program. There are other programs to exit the loop - iReb and RecBoot.

Recovery loop mode - not obedient

If your iPhone or iPad falls into a naughty Recovery Loop, then, as a rule, not only a forced restart is powerless, but the programs redsn0w, iReb, TinyUmbrella and RecBoot also cannot get the iPhone out of the recovery loop. As a result of using the programs above, the iPhone continues to display the USB cable and the iTunes logo after reboot. In this case, we did not succeed in avoiding the loss of information stored in the iPhone, but it's good if earlier you too.

If you have caught a naughty recovery loop, then all that remains is to connect your iPhone to iTuens and try to flash it. Sometimes it is impossible to flash the phone in this mode, then they try to flash it again. As a result, the iPhone firmware erases all the information we made earlier. It happens that after flashing the iPhone or iPad, they are asked to enter someone's Apple ID and password, but this is a completely different story.

Recently, I see more and more complaints about unsuccessful updating of iPhone phones using iTunes. Often, such an update leads to a complete flashing of the firmware and the inoperability of the phone. The victims have no choice but to take their phone and wallet in their arms and go to the nearest service center, where for a very decent amount a specialist with a very thoughtful look will carry out "very difficult" work to restore the iPhone firmware. At the same time, not many people know that, thanks to the foresight of developers from Apple, firmware restoration can be done at home and this procedure will take very little time.

The firmware on the iPhone or "apple, usb-cord and iTunes icon" has flown.

There are three main signs that the firmware on your phone has flown or is damaged:
1. The iPhone does not turn on and you see (oddly enough) only a black screen on the screen.
2. The phone can be turned on, but the screen only shows the Apple logo and does not respond to anything.
3. The phone turns on, but the screen shows the USB cable and the iTunes icon.

Examine your phone carefully before proceeding. Perhaps the malfunction is caused by physical damage to the device, in which case the firmware will not help you. If your pet looks great, and there are no holes from enemy bullets in it, you can connect it to your computer using a USB cable.

ATTENTION! Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. ...

After connecting the cord, you need to simultaneously hold down the "Power" and "Home" buttons for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, release the "Power" button, but continue to hold the "Home" button.

Your computer should start detecting the phone, which in turn means that the phone is alive and you need to restore the firmware.

Restore iPhone firmware

Before starting the flashing procedure, you must wait for the phone to be fully identified by the computer. After that, you need to launch iTunes, which in turn will swear that the phone is in recovery mode.

All you need to do is click the "Restore" button and agree to the terms.

After that, it remains to wait until the firmware is downloaded to the iPhone and the process of its restoration is completed, however, iTunes will periodically notify you about this. In addition, the progress of the firmware will be shown on the phone screen.

After completing the firmware, your phone will automatically turn on. After that, you need to go to "Settings" -> "General" -> "Reset" -> "Reset all settings".

It is worth adding that if you are the proud owner of an unofficially unlocked phone, then with a high degree of probability you can receive the following message:

Unfortunately, this is where the aces ran out, and the iPhone 4 / 4S with 4.12.01 / 2.0.12 modems, in principle, cannot be unlocked by software. It remains to either contact the operator for an official unlock, or use the Gevey Sim set, but that's a completely different story.
