Note that on screens with a wide color coverage without the corresponding color correction of ordinary images optimized for SRGB devices, look unnaturally saturated. In the settings for the developer, there is even a switch to output in SRGB mode, but its activation does not lead to anything and the switch is displayed not activated when you enter the appropriate page with the settings.

The balance of shades on the gray scale is good, since the color temperature is slightly higher than the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the spectrum of absolutely black bodies (ΔE) is below 10, which is considered a good indicator for the consumer device. Of course, there is a mode with a reduced intensity of the blue components. An effective oleophobic coating and a good color balance must be attributed to the advantages of the screen. At the same time we recall about the general advantages of OLED screens: true black color (if nothing is reflected in the screen), good uniformity of the white field, noticeably less than that of the LCD, the drop in the brightness of the image at a look at the corner. The disadvantages include a relatively low permission (aggravated by the Pentile subpixels), the screen brightness modulation and oversaturated colors due to too wide color coverage. In users who are particularly sensitive to flicker, an increased fatigue may occur, and watch movies and photos on this screen is unpleasant. In general, the quality of the screen is low. In fact, it is one of the worst OLED screens from modern smartphones.

Camera

Appearance and ease of use

Smartphones with 5 "screens today are on the border between practical as telephone devices and models with larger screens focused as mini-tablets. And therefore it is difficult to give an unequivocal assessment "conveniently not convenient", since it depends solely on the user and the use scripts required by it. Xiaomi Mi3, in contrast to the predecessors, is made in the format of the monoblock.

The dimensions (144 × 74 × 8.3 mm) and the weight (142 g) are combined very well. For a model with a five-mounted screen, they can be considered good. The shape is selected enough interesting and stylish, so you can even call the design original. The main body is made of plastic and painted with matte silver paint. Perhaps it is the surface of the hull that causes the greatest complaints with a close acquaintance.

Photos of this can not transmit, but it seems that the smartphone is cheaper than it could be imagined. However, this "does not affect the speed" and the perception of this moment is certainly individual. But if it were metal or a little different material, it would be possible to impress others.

The front side is traditionally closed with glass. Around it there is almost imperceptible glossy black plastic insert. In the upper left corner, the silver manufacturer's logo was placed. A little to the right of it is installed light sensors and approximations, in the center a narrow slit of the spoken speaker, and the next - the front camera window and the multicolor LED notification.

The black frame around the screen has a slightly more than fifteen millimeters and a width of about four millimeters, if you count on glass. Touch control buttons are in the usual place under the screen. The duration of the automatically activated backlight can be adjusted or even completely disable it. The truth of the signature without it is practically not visible.

Thanks to the rounded side, the device is comfortable and reliably held in hand. On the right side there are buttons for adjusting the volume and unlock. They are made of metal and very comfortably fall under the thumb of the right hand. There are no comments to their work.

But the short ends of the smartphone housing are flat. This, in particular, simplified the design of the compartment for the Six Cart, which is located on top. It is implemented in a familiar tray format that can be opened with a special key or paper clip, and is designed to install standard Mini-SIM. Next to it is visible a small grille of an additional microphone, and in the other corner there is a headset connector.

Below we see the lattice, in one half which the external speaker is hidden, and for the second - the main microphone. In the left corner there is a Micro-USB connector for charging and connecting to a PC. It is strange that in this model the plug is not fully included in the connector.

In the upper left corner of the back there is a block from the main chamber, a double LED flash and a small opening of an unknown destination, possibly associated with an additional microphone. At the bottom of the rear panel there is another logo and several technical icons.

The smartphone produces a very good impression by a combination of basic external characteristics - screen sizes and body, weight and shapes. The only remark concerns the coating of the body, which seemed not very combined with the level of other elements.

Screen

One of the most significant differences in the predecessors - using Full HD screen with a diagonal 5 ". Apparently the manufacturer decided that it was time for such a format. So, given the platform, the new model will be able to qualify for the place among the most modern devices. The touch screen supports up to 10 simultaneous touches and has a special mode that simplifies work in gloves.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface resistant to the appearance of scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, there is an effective anti-glare filter, which is not worse to reduce the brightness of the reflection, than Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter just Nexus 7). The Xiaomi Mi3 screen is quite a bit lighter. Two of the reflected objects in the Xiaomi Mi3 screen is very weak, this indicates that there is no airbap between the screen layers (more specifically between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS-One Glass Solution type screen). When manually controlling the brightness and when the white field is output, the maximum brightness value was about 450 kD / m², the minimum - 3 cd / m². The maximum brightness is high, it means, given the effective anti-glare filter, readability even on a sunny day outside the room should be at a good level. In complete darkness, brightness can be reduced to a comfortable level. In the presence of automatic brightness adjustment over the illumination sensor (there is a left slot of the front loudspeaker). In automatic mode, when changing external light conditions, the screen brightness is rising, and decreases. The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness adjustment slider. If it is 100%, then in the complete darkness of the automatic brightness adjustment function reduces the brightness of up to 138 kD / m² (not excessively bright, but it was possible and lowered), in conditions lit by artificial offices light (about 400 LC) brightness rises to 344 cd / m² (multipato), in a very bright environment (corresponds to the lighting of a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20000 lk or a little more) is set to 460 cd / m² (as needed). There is some modulation of the backlight, but its amplitude is relatively small, and the spectral maximum falls about 40 kHz, so visually flickering the screen cannot be seen, and the presence of such modulation can not affect the comfort of working with this device.

The screen has good viewing angles without a significant shift of colors, even with large looks from the perpendicular to the screen and without inverting shades. The main disadvantage is the low stability of black to the rejection of the view from the perpendicular to the plane of the screen. Nevertheless, in general, the quality of the screen is high.

Sound

The main speaker of the smartphone is located on the lower end, so that it will not be blocked when the device is placed on the table, but in games you can close it with your hand. The maximum volume level can be estimated as medium. From smartphones of this size we expected a little more. From the point of view of quality, the frequency response we met and better - the advantage is given to the average frequencies, so that the music recordings on this device are not very interesting. In addition, at high volume, complex compositions lose detail.

There are no headsets in the kit, but the manufacturer offers several Own options as additional options. The HTC version turned out to be more functional, in addition to this list, navigation has been working in it. In the smartphone options there is an item on the noise cancellation system for a conversation. However, we did not notice his influence in this scenario, as well as the effect of additional microphones. The main thing has a standard sensitivity, there is no remarks to transfer them to the speech. A more detailed verification showed that the grille on the top of the housing is also a microphone that is used in some programs (for example, Hangouts), but the user cannot affect the choice, and there was practically nothing to be heard in Skype, especially when video communications. The voice speaker seemed a little quiet.

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with a main chamber of 13 megapixel (4208 × 3120 points), which has a double LED flash and autofocus. If with insufficient lighting the camera copes well, then with weak lighting everything is much worse. Although strong noises in the shadows are very competently processed, the details inevitably suffer.

The chamber of this level can already be compared with the Samsung Galaxy S5 camera. Of course, in many respects, it does not reach the Korean flagship, and in general, the work copes worse, but, nevertheless, it demonstrates a very decent result.

The camera turned out very decent and suitable for both art and documentary shooting.

In simple mode of working with video, the user is available on Fast Motion and filters. Behind the first, the shooting is hidden in a modified pace, the resulting file has a format 720p30 and five times less duration than in the usual case. It is strange that in the full version it was called Slow. It can also change the frame resolution, white balance and some other parameters. For video selected MP4 format and AAC codec, while three settings for the main chamber correspond to the following parameters: 1920 × 1080 ≈30 FPS AVC [Email Protected] 15 Mbps, 1280 × 720 ≈30 FPS AVC [Email Protected] 8 Mbps, 720 × 480 ≈30 FPS AVC [Email Protected] 2 Mbps. The inner chamber has similar parameters, only the frame rate is reduced twice, to 15 FPS.

Software

One of the key features of the model is to use the MIUI firmware. Today, this project is undoubtedly one of the most interesting and convenient alternative options for smartphones with Android. The disadvantage of the device under consideration is the absence of an input support in Russian (the question of complete localization for the target audience is less significant). Notes Notes allow insertion photos and can be synchronized with the MI Cloud service. The company mail client supports Exchange, Gmail and user settings for the POP3 / IMAP server.

Recorder performs voice recorder function. It is possible to record and telephone conversation. True quality in the second case is not very high.

Telephone part and communication

The module for working with cellular networks is quite standard. It supports domestic 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks. The smartphone prefers the third generation network and confidently keeps the connection in them. There is no comments to the work of voice communication and Internet access. The data transfer rate depends mainly from the provider and loading its base stations. In testing, we noted indicators at 8 Mbps on reception.

A set of supported Bluetooth services is fully accustomed - file sharing, sound transmission, player management and others. The speed of file transfer to the smartphone was lower than usual - about 80 kb / s. And in the opposite direction it was at a good level - more than 150 kb / s.

In the model specifications, 802.11a / B / G / N / AC wireless networks are supported in 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Of course, the ability to work in the second range can only be welcomed. Testing together with the ASUS RT-AC66U router made it possible to make sure that when working in 2.4 GHz, the smartphone is capable of connecting to 72 Mbit / s and to show the real performance of the compound 30-40 Mbps in this mode. Switching to 5 GHz made it possible to provide a compound up to 150 Mbps and a transmission rate of 60-80 Mbps. So in real work 802.11Ac with the current version of the firmware there are certain doubts. However, most users are still working on 802.11n. Do not exclude the incompatibility of a smartphone with a router used for the test. Note that at 5 GHz, the device can work both with channels 36/40/44/48 and from 149/153/157/161.

We checked the function of the wireless display. In the Android database, it is implemented on the Miracast protocol. Netgear adapter has performed as a receiver. The results are similar to the past tests. This type of connection can be used to demonstrate presentations, photos, desktops and applications, video viewing. The system has too high delays that do not allow to implement gaming scenarios, and the quality of the transmitted image does not match Full HD.

Performance

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 has already met in several top models. From the point of view of performance today, it is perhaps the best option for smartphones. So for comparison in the tables, we used only two competitors, which were tested by us earlier - LG G2 on a similar platform and TCL IDOL X + on the eight-year MediaTek MT6592 platform. More interest, in our opinion, is a comparison of various modes of operation of the Xiaomi Mi3 itself. Like previously considered devices of this manufacturer, it has the autonomy performance setting.

The three provisions are responsible for choosing the algorithms for the operation of the processor core frequency control system. In High Performance mode, they work at frequencies up to 2.3 GHz inclusive, Balance apparently realizes less aggressive mode, and Battery Saving limits the maximum frequency by the value of about 1 GHz. In this case, in all cases, in the absence of a load, the system can operate on one nucleus and minimum frequency, which is 300 MHz.

The first group of tests shows that Xiaomi Mi3 not only has a fast platform, but effectively implements its potential by overtaking competitors. At the same time, the "economical" mode, as expected, is about two times slower than high-performance.

Note that in the Antutu Benchmark x test, the numbers are similar to the basic version of the Benchmarck, so that there is no speech on the "optimization" for Antutu in this case.

We had no doubt and in excellent indicators of the model under consideration in graphic tests. 3DMark, presented, seemingly recently, copes with a speed assessment only as a complicated subtest.

Epic Citadel shows the maximum results in all configurations and only the use of economical mode reduces its performance in the highest quality mode. Although here they stay high enough for a comfortable game.

It is worth noting that with a long serious load (for example, a game in Dungeon Hunter 4) in productive modes, the upper part of the smartphone is noticeably heated, and at once on both sides. Holding him in his hands becomes not very comfortable. So taking into account the speed of the platform, it is possible to use the Balance mode on an ongoing basis, since significant advantage of the pluses from the full-speed mode find not easy.

The speed of working with a flash attack when you connect via USB is 20-25 MB / s, which is a good result for this version of the interface.

Video playback

Few people have doubts that the Qualcomm platform installed in the smartphone will not have any difficulties when playing video of modern popular formats. It turned out to be subject to even rollers with a resolution of 4096 × 2160 pixels and 1080p50 with a profile [Email Protected]

The MHL interface, like the Mobility DisplayPort, we did not find in this smartphone (although the first and was declared), so I had to restrict ourselves to testing the image of the video files to the screen itself.
